Definitely Legend of the Guardians - I love that movie in 2D, really can't wait to see it in 3D! I think that story equates to LotR so much... The Fellowship group, Mordor and the Sauron-Owl, Orcs in armor, etc.

I'm going to run over to Best Buy at lunch, and probably pick up a 3D title or two - too bad almost all the 3D movies there are like $34 and up...

That's awesome!

Legends of the Owls looks great in 2D. It's gonna blow your mind in 3D.:mindblowing:

Whew - just got done watching the entire Legend of the Guardians movie in 3D, and all I can say is wow, Wow, WOW! The 3D image with the Epson 5010, even with the darkening effect of the tinted 3D glasses, is stil super bright, with vivid colors, and crystal clear. There is a LOT of 3D depth in that movie, too! I'll be darned if I saw any crosstalk or ghosting at all, even though I was purposely looking for it...

The experience definitely tops the 3D in a commercial theater, IMO, mainly because of the brightness of the 3D image this projector gives you. And, sitting only 9 feet from the 120" screen was as equally immersive as sitting in the center back row of an IMAX theater!

Any idea of when your movie backdrop image will find its way into your new 3D library? :D

Well, after seeing what my projector can do, I'll probably want to get one real soon - I'm kinda doubtful I will be able to wait 6 weeks for for Hammie's copy to come in from Panasonic... we were discussing a possble alternate solution, so maybe it won't be that long...

The 3D in that was Incredible.

I can still see the "Ay-Wah's" floating down, seemingly within arms reach.:whip:

Congratulations and good morning Troy. It will be awhile longer till I go the 3D route. I really want the Oppo but I'm researching other options.

FREYMAX 3D 02-18-2012 03:37 PM

This morning I went to a local restaurant with my Ham Radio club for our monthly breakfast. Afterwards, since I was close by, I stopped over at the Walmart to check out their blu-ray selections. Their tiny 3D movie section only contained about 10 titles; the check-out clerk said they just started carrying 3D blu-rays a few weeks ago. In any event, along with my stop at Best Buy over my lunch hour yesterday, my collection of 3D movies has now grown from 2 to 10 titles in less than 24 hours...

http://troyfrey.com/forum/flood/10bd3d.jpg

On Monday I'm going to take the Thor 3DBD back to Best Buy, Walmart had it on the shelf for $10 less... I'll either get BB to price match it, or return it and buy it at Walmart. Whatever they want to do.

EDIT: For those of you who have never seen my movie theater in person, but only the photos I've posted here online - my VCT tile floor seen in this photo is the actual color of the floor tiles - all the photos in my thread have made the floor look much bluer than what it actually is - it's much more purple as seen here - like a dark lilac or lavender color.

Morning Troy,
It looks like my prediction of an awesome 3d three day weekend for you is off to a great start, enjoy your fabulous new toy .

I'm happy to hear the Epson looks so good. Now you have me thinking about one. The restoration came out really nice (yeah I know, a little late on the recognition). Take care and enjoy.

Hey there, Cap'n Kirk - Do you live in the town of Northeast, or just in northeastern PA? You're close enough to join up with a few of us when we have our BR.com get-togethers here in the Lancaster area - or even to come down and test out the Epson 5010 to see if you might want to get one... There's three of us forum members that live here in Lancaster County, and also a couple people down in Maryland, that just started to arrange Home Theater get-togethers every so often. You'll have to keep in touch on here!

The basement restoration is still ongoing, I basically had to halt construction during the cold weather, since most of my sawing and painting is done outside in my driveway - so I'll be working on the door trim and baseboards for awhile, yet... :o

I'm in the Wilkes-Barre area. Thanks for the offer. I may take you up on it at some point. I thought about it when I initially came across your theater. I think I'd be looking at about a two and a half hour drive each way. It may be worth it though before buying. Thanks again.... Cylon. :p

Ok - I drive up past WB every month on 81 on my way up to Pike County, I do a 3-day monthly site visit to our office we have there, and stay in a hotel on the west side of Lake Wallenpaupack. Although, my trip up there this month was supposed to be Wed-Fri of this week, but my bosses cancelled it because of other things going on... you're right on it being about a 2 1/2 hour drive... :whip:

FREYMAX 3D 02-20-2012 12:44 PM

Well, my ex dropped off my two daughters last night here at the house, and the girls finally found out I have a new 3D projector - I was trying to keep it a secret untill I got the glasses and had everything setup and working right... my youngest daughter told me she did notice the larger projector mounted on the ceiling when she was staying with me on Monday evening, even though I didn't point it out to her, and she also remembered I had asked her the week before if she liked going to 3D movies - so she kinda figured it out ahead of time... :p

Anyway, of course the first movie they wanted to see was the two Harry Potter Deathly Hallows 3D blu-rays - so we watched Part 1 last night, and will watch Part 2 today, since we're all at home off school and work for the holiday today... :)

Enjoy the holiday. I have a four day weekend coming. 228, February 28th, Peace Memorial Day. Hope to relax, but some of wife's out of town friends are visiting, so I'll have to play host. If they or their kid sits on the sub, getting the old fork in the eye will learn 'em.

Good Monday Holiday morning sir. I wish I could stay over and watch HP movies with you. :D

Lol - you just need subs like the ones I have - then you don't need to worry about anyone sitting on them... ;)

No, they just use your speakers as TV trays. :faint:

I cannot wait to have my recliner all by itself in a man cave. What a happy day; maybe I'll have a cushion on the floor for the dog, and wife can use it to kneel on, when she needs to massage my feet.

Well, hey - I only paid $125 for that pair of infinity speakers, off Craigslist - and they just have a cheap vinyl veneer covering the cabinet - so I'm not overly concerned about plates of food sitting on top of them...

The HP movies were quite good - the 3D was just natural, no blatent pop-outs or anything in these movies, since they were post-production conversions. But I still enjoyed the 3D effect. A lot of people poo-poo 3D movies if they have no pop-outs; they whine that the movies don't even look like they are in 3D... But to me, that (to use the dreaded word) "gimmicky" kind of 3d should be restricted to animated or kids movies. For live-action / adult-oriented movies, pop-outs aren't necessary and shouldn't really be used, they should look natural enough that you almost don't notice the 3D after awhile, IMO...

I agree and disagree... Confused yet??? :p

As a reference, the only live action 3D I have seen so far was Phantom Menace. Over all, I thought it was very flat. The few times where I thought a "pop-out" effect would be nice was with the ships and when moving through the various city scenes. I did not even feel the 3D in that movie added much depth to the scene. As someone else mentioned, if you took the 3D glasses off, you could not even tell it was 3D for a majority of the scenes.

Just my two cents... Later. I'm off to take the kids to the dentist. :ohnoes:
