Yes, Bioware/EA owns the IP, but MS published and distributed the first one. So, they own the copyrights to the first game.

The second game was published and distributed by EA, after they bought Bioware, so will the future Mass Effect games. That's the only reason ME2 is coming to the PS3, because EA purchased Bioware.

MS published the first game on the 360, but EA owns the IP now and should be able to do what they want with it. THey went and published and distributed the first game for the PC and that was regardless of the fact that MS originally published it on the 360. Publishing a game doesnt prevent it from going anywhere if the company doesnt own the IP. MS published Ninja Gaiden 2 on the 360 and Tecmo went right around and published it as Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 on the PS3. If MS were to have bought Bioware instead of EA, then things would be a different story

NGS2 came out around or less than a year on PS3 after it came out on 360.

Mass Effect has been out on 360 for almost 3 years now. Either MS had a stipulation in a contract with Bioware before it was bought by EA to keep it a 360 console exclusive or EA just doesn't want to put the time/money/effort in porting it to PS3.

I wish they would though. I played through that game at least 5 times. One of, if not, the greatest game I ever played.

And I think this is the answer. Both ME1 and 2 are old games at this point. Most games make the majority of their sales when they are first released as the hype, buzz and advertisemnts around them help sell. When you wait a year or 3 to bring a game out to another platform, a company loses the window of oppurtunity for those sales as the game market has moved on. Its great that ME2 is coming out but the PS3 has alot of other big titles and I dont see this selling big. They probably dont see the time/money investment in bringing both over being worth it as they may not get the return they'd want. Its more likely being brought over to help sell ME3 when that eventually gets released, rather than make money off of ME2.

Does this mean there'll be spinoffs? Because I was under the impression that Mass Effect 3 will be the last in the series as it was intended as a trilogy.

EA said they are pushing for more ME games past the trilogy.

Great to read that. It's such a rich universe, I can see the series branching out far beyond Shepard's story.

Mass Effect Online has been rumored for a couple years now.

An MMORPG holds no appeal for me. I was hoping for a series of spinoff games and maybe even a new trilogy set in the same universe.

Commander Sheperd has a kid.

MMO's in general holds no appeal at all for me.

The Old Republic has caught my eye though.

Doesn't even have to be about Shepard, any "accidents" he left along the way, or any of his friends. That universe is so vast, they could do a whole series with a set of characters that are totally unrelated to the original trilogy.

Generally true.

One thing a game gains from a PS3 port is new audience, especially in Japan.

and hopefully non compressed cut scenes, the in game appearance is fantastic, but the amount of compression in the cut scenes is huge. It's not as problematic as in FFXIII, but it would be nice to have the cut scenes look as good as the rest of the game.

I'm not a fan of MMO's, and how could a mass effect online be rumored for a few years when the first game only came out two years ago (unless of course you consider two to be a few).

I noticed that on the PC demo. Are the cutscenes on the full PC game compressed as well? Because the difference between gameplay and cutscenes was really jarring while playing at 1920x1080 with all the other settings maxed.

Hi Everyone

We are pleased to announce this morning that the next Mass Effect 2 DLC episode The Lair of the Shadowbroker will be available on the PC and Xbox 360 on Tuesday September 7 and will cost 800 BioWare/Microsoft points. Not only is this an excellent adventure through Illium and the shadowbroker's secret lair, this new DLC will add the Shadow Broker intel center, new research, and five new achievements – and give fans from Mass Effect 1the chance to continue a relationship with Liara.
New pics spoilerd for size

Seems a new DLC is up for ME2. I wonder if it'll come bundled with the PS3 version.

Also, how do those BioWare points work? Do you just buy a card like you do for the Microsoft points?

I assume BioWare points are spent on PC content?

Nice to see a mission with Liara. She was the one I romanced in the first Mass Effect :p

From the main screen in Mass Effect on PC there's a link to the BioWare store.
