I wouldn't mind a prequel. One of the backstory for shepard was a battle where he was the last one left, that would be cool.

Actually, three. 2007-2010. An it was rumored since before 1 even came out.

FYI I just popped in ME2 since I have it on the XBox and I wanted to make a quick comment. I only played about an hour into ME1 and quit because I didn't really like the combat. I must say the graphics and combat have been much improved in ME2. I do feel a little lost on what's happening and how to work the menu system as far as orders to my team and upgrades. I suppose that will take a little time but it's certainly not a game you can pick up and "get" right away if you didn't play the first one.

I suppose it's like Final Fantasy in that regard. Whenever they change the "upgrade" system it takes a little time to figure it out. My point is that while I think I'll get it the more I play I think playing the first one would have helped a lot. Unfortunately the first one is so outdated it may turn you off like it did me, which kept me from playing ME2 until now.

I would get on youtube and look at all the different powers and ablities available. That's what I did, unless you plan on playing the game multiple times till you figure out which type of character you want. Pull/Throw is by far my favorite combo. I love flinging enemies across the screen, so much fun.

I've gotten used to the wheel. Those who have played Dragon Age should adapt to the wheel pretty quick.

you're missing out on some key story points in part one. also, importing your ME1 character into ME2 changes the original ME2 storyline.

Warjack Prime 08-25-2010 06:29 PM

That's what I hear. Unfortunately the little time I can dedicate to playing games means I'm going to spend it playing a game I love rather than slogging through ME1, which I didn't much care for. I may not even finish ME2 but so far it's better than ME1.

MerrickG 08-25-2010 07:24 PM

I just got a good idea.

Bioware COULD allow you to play the first ME on the 360 or PC and once you finish the game allow you to upload your completed saved game to the Bioware server (aka Cerberus network) and once you do that you can access the Cerberus network on the PS3 and import the character that way.

Its a way it COULD work at least in regards to the PC, since most ME1 owners on the 360 likely already bought ME2 on the 360.

Yes, you can play ME2 just fine w/o playing ME1, but it really does enhance the experience to have played and imported your ME1 character.

What does everyone else think?

Then just start with ME2. You'll be fine.

ME2 is MUCH more user friendly than ME1 and is a game that goes at a much faster pace.

The thing is, some people don't have both consoles or a computer capable of running Mass Effect...or any game for that matter. Which is probably the reason they have a console in the first place. To avoid upgrading graphics cards and/or memory constantly.

Really Captain Obvious?!!

<sarcasm> Why would it occur to me or Bioware that someone may not have a 360 or a PC capable of running the original Mass Effect? <sarcasm> Yes, owning a 360 or a capable PC is an OBVIOUS caveat.

All smart-assness aside:
Yes its not perfect and some people (maybe even a LOT) are going to be left out, but the PS3 clearly aint gonna get Mass Effect 1 and this is ONE way and from my point of the view the ONLY way to allow PS3 ME2 players to continue the story they began in ME1 in a satisfactory manner. There are other ways, but this seems like the best.

I'm not sure Bioware would have a huge incentive to do so since anyone who played ME1 on PC or 360 likely already has played ME2 on that same system, but it could work and wouldn't be all that difficult or expensive to integrate. In fact I think it would be quite easy since there are PC and 360 ME2 saved game editors that allow you to change your ME1 decisions.

I wasn't trying to be funny...or a smart ass.

I'm just pointing out the flaw in your so-called plan. If it were that obvious then you shouldn't have even said anything.....what type of reply were you expecting? "Gee goly, thats the best idea ever!"......

Beefbowl 08-25-2010 08:26 PM

Why don't we wait and see what Bioware's solution is for the PS3 and go from there.

I was being a smartass because I didn't expect it would be necessary to point out that you would have to have either a 360 or capable PC for it to work when that should have been more than obvious.

Actually. That is exactly the reply I was expecting.

Why?
Because it should be relatively easy to implement and would allow SOME (ala those who have a saved game from the 360 or PC) but certainly not all people who plan to buy the PS3 version of ME2 to play using the character they created in ME1. :D

Don't worry I'm not trying to piss you off. :p I'm just giving you a hard time for stating the obvious.

Plus, if Bioware decided to do this they could make an announcement and it might cause a surge in sales of ME1. :)

My PC crashed a while back and took my saved games with it, but after playing through ME2 twice without saved game imports from ME1, I looked up a few things online and there's a TON of stuff that changes based on what you did in the first game (if you import).

With that in mind, I've been throwing a few minutes here and there back at ME1 to build up the game universe the way *I* want it to be so I can play through ME2 again (for the third time... lol).
