Ugh, the old boxart is pretty busy as itself, but all that text...:hypnotized:

Whatever though, still buying it, obviously.

Actually I always liked the original artwork, even if others found it cheesy.

This game looks very interesting but I'll wait for reviews concerning how well they ported this to the ps3.

I still might have to give it a rent. I have the PC version, and I know I can't sell that version. It still sucks that I don't have the DLC for it though.

Same here. I was hoping the PS3 version would have the original boxart (before they changed it). Oh well!

Mass Effect 2 PS3 to look "as good, if not better" than 360 release

Quote:

BioWare has squashed fears that the upcoming PlayStation 3 version of Mass Effect 2 won’t measure up to its Xbox 360 counterpart in the visual department, assuring fans the game will look “as good, if not better” than the original release.

Chatting to the folks at Official PlayStation Magazine (spotted by NeoGAF), the game’s producer, Jess Huston, commented, "Oftentimes when you go to the PS3 you see stuff like down-ressing and using a smaller than 720p resolution to try and get back some of the framerate.”

"We haven't done that. We really wanted to try to make it as good, if not better than the Xbox version."

In addition, Huston also revealed that the studio is including "three years' worth of engine updates" as well as every patch and chunk of DLC in the PS3 release, which BioWare says equates to rougly $100 and 20 hours worth of extra bang for your buck.

Mass Effect 2 is pencilled in for release on PS3 in January 2011.

Having finished the PC version twice, all I can say is I'd gladly trade that extra 20 hours for a more sensible way to scan planets. :p Scanning beats trekking around planetary terrain that resembles a pin-table from ME1, but it's still not what I'd call "fun".

That said, this is already pre-ordered for me. I'm always happy to support Bioware in their efforts; they almost always come through with quality product, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they've done in terms of engine optimization to get rid of some of the nagging flaws in the 360 editions from this franchise (hopefully a mandatory install to get rid of some of those loading screens).

I agree with everything you've said

Shadow Broker is probably the best DLC that I've ever played :D

MerrickG 12-02-2010 02:58 PM

I am very interested to hear how they pkan to incorporate the graphic novel to bring players up to speed on what they missed from ME1. I do hope they still allow you to make choices.

BlackMamba 12-02-2010 08:59 PM

looking forward to playing the game. Have the PC to run it well but never got around to buying it.

Question to PC owners though - does this game work better on PCs or consoles? Is the control scheme more intuitive for keyboard/mouse? I do put a preference on consoles because I can play on my big TV though.

Elandyll 12-02-2010 09:23 PM

re-playing it right now on PC as a female Shepard (after having redone all of ME1 to see what ports over - the impact of ME1 decisions is huge actually).
Can't say if it's better on a platform or another, but on PC I'm playing it in 1080p and the controls are smooth as butter.

This being said, the game is so good that for the DLC and the exclusive interactive comic I might buy it for PS3 as well (and playing it on 50" TV instead of 17" laptop sounds nice too).

Same here. I'm too lazy to buy the DLC add-ons from the BioWare Store for Mass Effect 2. Plus, I want to see how the interactive comic works.

I like the look of the box art.

I have the PC version of ME1 and ME2 and have played but don't own it for 360 (since I don't own a 360, heh). The PC versions look and play better in every way. Mouse control is superior to controller for this game series.

Beyond that, textures are crisper, resolution is (much) better, and loading times are much faster on the PC version.

The only plus for the 360 version is achievements (and for the PS3 version, trophies). I doubt they'll implement Move controls, but if they do, that would do a lot to balance the scales, however.

remember a year ago when hackers found out some lines in the codes that suggested a ps3 port and bioware denied lol
