I guess I 'am. I have to admit it sucks that Mass Effect 2 on the PC is forcing you to play with a keyboard and mouse (even though I'm already quite used to it), and with BioWare proving that it can make PS3 games I could consider this on my wishlist for next year.

Since I already played it on the xbox it doesn't bother me that first mass effect is not coming for the PS3. But I wonder how much it would effect Mass Effect 3 not playing the first one. I hope they include all the DLC for the PS3 version and release a Steelbook CE

It's great for those who previously couldn't play it but, for me, a lot will be lost if they can only bring ME2 over even if you read up on the plot of the first. ME1 was published by Microsoft so I'm not sure on that score if it'll ever appear on the PS3 which is a shame in the overall scheme of things, particularly how events can affect your ME2 experience especially if you import your character.

It is a smashing game though, quite easily my favourite (SP) 360 game to date.

madlost1 08-17-2010 08:32 PM

I hope I'm not the only one that's aggravated the first ones not coming as well.

Mr. J 08-17-2010 08:58 PM

Now that I think about it, I agree. The games tie in to each other so it would've been nice if they announced both Mass Effect 1 and 2. But you don't necessarily HAVE to play 1 to play 2. You'll just be missing out on some of the story and some of your decisions affect the following Mass Effect release.

I've played Mass Effect 2 first and I didn't feel that lost. Some characters that I ran into in part 2 that were in part one that I didn't recognize until I played the first one later on down the road.

The games do a good job of not depending heavily on the previous game for you to enjoy it!

Mass Effect 1 and 2 are both, easily and BY FAR, my favorite games of all time. I'm excited to see that the PS3 folks will now get a chance to play it.

BUT, as mentioned, not having the first one would be a big problem, at least to me. The details carried over from the first one really add to the experience, and it's just a better overall game and story when you see all these references back to the first one. There's nothing else like it, in my opinion.

That said, I'm not sure that they are even allowed to bring ME1 over. Wasn't it published by Microsoft, whereas ME2 was published by EA? Perhaps that's the reason why the first one isn't coming as well?

There have been other games published my Microsoft that have come to PS3, so I don't think that's why. Maybe BioWare just doesn't want to port a 3-year old game to PS3? Idk, I'm just really excited that we're at least getting ME2!

Hmm .. then it confuses me that they wouldn't just port it over then. One of the best parts of these games is the continuation of your character from 1 to 2, and that's something the BioWare team is always promoting as well. So I'm not sure why they would make a conscious decision to not port it over, if they did have the option. I wonder if we'll find out why ME1 isn't getting a port then.

I honestly don't know. Maybe they made a deal with Microsoft during the development of ME2? Microsoft gets a one-year timed exclusive of ME2 in exchange for ME1 staying on PC/Xbox 360.

I, too, was hoping for a "Mass Effect Collection" but this is better than nothing.

I can't think of many games published by Microsoft (or rather, "Microsoft Game Studios") that have been on the PS3?

Shin-Ra 08-17-2010 10:19 PM

Ninja Gaiden II / Sigma 2.

David1 08-17-2010 10:25 PM

Ah, I actually forgot about that one. Is that the exception?

Hmm, I thought there were more... Well, if you don't count XBLA games, then NGII is all I can think of. :o

GLaDOS 08-17-2010 10:46 PM

Still, I'm glad to see Mass Effect 2 made it to the PS3. I, for one, haven't played the first Mass Effect but got the gist of it by playing the demo and meeting some old friends (Liara, Garrus, Ashley, Tali, etc) throughout the game. I think only having Mass Effect 2 on the PS3 is good enough if you ask me, even though I understand the importance of importing your ME1 data to ME2.

Icemage 08-17-2010 10:56 PM

I don't think I'd buy a standalone ME2 for PS3. I have ME1 and ME2 on PC (and amazing they are!). The connectivity between your decisions in ME1 and who remains alive in ME2 is one of the big selling points, and I just don't think I could bring myself to buy ME2 without ME1 included in the package.

I'd pay $60 for both games combined on PS3 - but not $40 for a standalone ME2.

RAZGRIZ-1 08-17-2010 11:35 PM

Looks like I'll be playing Mass Effect 2 afterall. I'm one happy panda.

Gamma_Winstead 08-17-2010 11:43 PM

They do an excellent job of standing alone.

I probably wont buy the PS3 version since I 100% ME2 on 360.

Best. Character Development. Ever.

I am quite confident that Bioware will come up with a creative way to get all the players up to speed on the events in ME2 that they won't feel too lost. You dont need to play ME1 to enjoy ME2, but it does it help.

They could present the first game in comic book form and allow you to make decisions that will affect ur ME2 character.

That would be a great idea, or maybe they could create some downloadable content showing the flashbacks of what happened in ME1. I'm getting that "Mass Effect: Genesis" vibe as that DLC.

Either that, or they show the "Previously on Mass Effect" trailer at the beginning of the game.

Same here! I bought ME1 on Steam for $5 but it won't play on my laptop. :(

The demo for ME2 won't work either so I'm really excited to know that I'll be able to play it. I've always wanted a game like Mass Effect on PS3!

EDIT: I just noticed something in BioWare's press release:
