The demo for ME2 won't work either so I'm really excited to know that I'll be able to play it. I've always wanted a game like Mass Effect on PS3!

EDIT: I just noticed something in BioWare's press release:

Seems like maybe they'll include a ME1 recap or something on the disc.

Maybe a prelude DLC that's already included that kind of condenses down and explains the story? Either way I'll probably get ME2 eventually, Sony usually makes publishers give extra stuff for late ports.

Maybe that's the "Mass Effect: Genesis" project they're talking (or hinting) about.

More than anything I think it suggests ME3 will be released simultaneously for both the 360 and PS3 when it does arrive. Some form of recap for the first would be nice, though.

Putting Mass Effect 3 on the PS3 as well as the 360 is the only logical decision after announcing Mass Effect 2 (PS3). It'll be a bad business move to port only Mass Effect 2 and not 3.....or some form of Mass Effect 1.

Great news for PS3 owners

I haven't played the 1st game. I hope they will introduce the first game in some sort of way with flashbacks or a prologue of some sort!

MerrickG 08-18-2010 02:28 PM

Well one thing they could do is include an option for those who played ME1 on a previous system and have them fill out a questionaire at the beginning of the game so you can build a character and import those decisions into the main game.

An example of a question:
[Show spoiler]Did you choose to kill Wrex in the whatever mission?

Its just one way ME2 can give a similar experience on the PS3, short of having played it on the PC or 360

Terjyn 08-18-2010 02:45 PM

When you are flying on the ship in the beginning of the game and Miranda and Jacob start asking you questions, they could just expand that section by several questions.

Sure you wouldn't want to implement every tiny decision, but you could hit the highlights.

I'm sure this is a game that I will enjoy, I'm just not sure I want to pay around £40 for it, especially as the 360 version can be picked up here for £12.50. If the game hasn't been improved (I'm thinking frame rate, rez etc), and/or includes some 360 DLC (if there's been any), I'd feel like I was paying over the odds for it.

BioWare CEO Ray Muzyka has revealed to VG247 that Mass Effect 2's Cerberus Network DLC will be available for the PS3 version in a "full way." While he didn't get too specific, he indicated that "a lot," if not all of the post-release content that's been released for the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game will be integrated into the initial PS3 release. Additionally, the PS3 port will feature some form of an "introduction experience that provides the backstory and the things that have happened" in the first game (which is not available on PS3).

"We haven't revealed what that is yet," Muzyka said of the introduction for first-time Mass Effect players. "It'll be something that provides a good introduction and provides a lot of the backstory and introduces you well to the story-arc, and kind of makes you feel like you're part of it all. And then you can jump right into the action in Mass Effect 2."

Muzyka also touched on the possibility of Mass Effect 3 launching simultaneously on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, teasing, "That'd be a good guess, but we haven't announced any details on any future formats or anything -- or even formally announced Mass Effect 3 yet." Of course, BioWare "wants to support different platforms, reach different audiences," Muzyka added, "we're part of EA and we want to make sure we can embrace that as well. I think we're trying to do that with all of our products, whether it's Dragon Age or Mass Effect."
Glad to see every DLC released is getting backed up for the PS3 version. Oh, and I wonder what that "introduction experience" would be? (I guess it could be either exclusive DLC or content built into the disc)

People are going to put in a lot of hrs to get a platinum for this game :D

I think I'll have John Sheppard on the 360 and use Jane Sheppard on the PS3.

bobuk12 08-18-2010 07:29 PM

I bought the new 360 slim (much, much improved) for 2 reasons: Mass Effect and Alan Wake. Both are quite good, but Mass Effect 2 is absolutely face meltingly awesome. The game itself could be considered short if you make no alliances and run through the end, but my god
[Show spoiler]will you pay for doing that
at the end of the game.

To anyone that is an exclusive ps3 owner, you have a reason to be very, very excited about this game

I'm sure Mass Effect 3 will be on both consoles now as well:D

I used to use Jon and Jan (or Jane) for all my dual characters. Recently all my generic human female characters have been Jade even since I played Beyond Good and Evil on Xbox and they always have green eyes.

Chiyo_chichi 08-18-2010 08:34 PM

I tend to always use renegade Ms. Shepard. Very much recommended for newcomers. Jennifer Hale is great.

I kinda doubt it...the only truly difficult Achievement is defeat the game on Insanity level, and I'd be surprised if trophies are in any way different than the achievements that already exist.

BioWare, like Bethesda, is big on the straight-forward achievement sets which are easily earned by naturally playing the game.

Yeah, getting all the achievements for ME2 wasn't that hard, except for the Insanity completion.

I'm playing as a Renegade Female Shepard right now for my third playthrough. :D

It's kinda hard though, because she's and Adept and I'm already used to the Soldier class.

Offender_Mullet 08-18-2010 10:12 PM

Good news. Now PS3 owners can enjoy the best game of the year and one of the best games I've ever played.

There's already 20 dlc content (weapons, armor, alternate appearances, missions, etc.) files available for the pc, so by the time it's released on the PS3, there will be more. Plus, they'll already be integrated into your game so that's an added bonus for you guys.

The sequel is a lot more refined, especially gameplay-wise so that's probably why they skipped porting #1 all together.

For people who haven't played the first one: While being able to view a backstory is still nowhere near as getting the full experience by playing the game, at least you're not going in totally blind.

The pc version will still look better though. :p:D:D:D

Undoubtedly for me it's because the first (on 360) is published by Microsoft Game Studios; it makes very little sense otherwise.

it's not about being hard..it just requires you to finish the game multiple times which is going to take many hrs in order to get all the trophies. ME1 was the worst.
