He became a gangster, and while in jail discovered the Nation of Islam writings of Elijah Muhammad. He preaches the teachings when let out of jail, but later on goes on a pilgrimage to the city of Mecca, there he converts to the original Islamic religion and becomes a Sunni Muslim. Excellent film though.

md99 09-29-2010 03:56 PM

I usually steer well clear of Spike Lee and his pet chip but this was a fantastic movie. Day one purchase for me and a great looking digibook too.

BluPix 10-11-2010 09:29 PM

One of Spike Lee's best films, I will preorder it. Love that Warner is showing it a little extra love and releasing it as an affordable digibook.

Here's hoping there will soon be more of Lee's better and/or earlier work on Blu: Jungle Fever; Do the Right Thing, Mo' Better Blues, etc. (This means Universal should step up the releases of its catalog on BD.)

Day one purchase for me

This was a fantastic movie. I'm not a big fan of Spike Lee, but the ball was hit out of the park with this one.

marooned99 10-17-2010 02:42 AM

I will be adding this to the collection. Looking forward to the release.

Evra 10-17-2010 03:53 PM

One of the best acting performances of all-time and it's no exaggeration!

Day One.

Andisheh 10-22-2010 05:34 AM

oh yeah. great performance. great movie. I can't wait for this one!

Danielle Ni Dhighe 10-22-2010 10:23 AM

A must have!

sandip 10-22-2010 10:33 AM

i haven't seen the movie.

Steelmaker 10-22-2010 04:27 PM

Good movie! Though I still crack up everytime at the scene where Al Sharpton is preaching on the street! LOL! It sort of takes me out of the film. I think that was a bad decision on Spike Lee's part.

macaca 12-10-2010 12:24 AM

the specs have been released:

disc 1 (blu-ray)
-the film
-commentary by spike lee & ernest dickerson (dp), barry alexanser brown (editor) and ruth carter (costume designer)
-deleted scenes with introduction by spike lee
-featurette "by any means necessary: the making of malcolm x"

disc 2 (sd-dvd)
-1972 feature length documentary "malcolm x"

Atreyu 12-10-2010 12:53 AM

Good flick, but not sure I will purchase as I am not a fan of Spike Lee. Normally that wouldn't determine whether I buy something or not, but for some strange reason it does on this. He even went as far as to say something to the effect that it sold more tickets that is on record because the people at movie theaters put in the sale for Home Alone instead of for Malcom X.

nycomet 01-10-2011 11:38 PM

Does anyone know what sound cotex is being used? I can't find it anywhere. I hope it will be DTS-Master Audio like The Color Purple will be.

No details yet, I'm guessing DTS-HD MA as well. Warner don't do lossy anymore so I think we're good.

Jorge_Crn 01-11-2011 12:00 AM

Thats a nice looking digibook. Awesome movie from one of my favorite directors. A must buy for me.

Music Issue KOs 'Malcolm X'

Quote:

As a result of a music clearance issue, Warner Home Video has canceled its plans for a Blu-ray Disc of Malcolm X.

The title was slated for a Jan. 25 release. A Warner statement indicated all parties involved were working to resolve the issue.

magnolia12883 01-18-2011 11:05 PM

Sadness...

:( Apparently (according to The Digital Bits), this title is delayed because Warner has reached a disagreement over music clearance issues... And so it will not be coming out 1/25 or anytime in the foreseeable future :( They're working on it...

larry47591 01-18-2011 11:09 PM

Crap i was looking forward to this

RJ Smoove 01-18-2011 11:29 PM

What a buncha b.s. I was really looking forward to the digibook.

Sad Beautiful Tragic 01-18-2011 11:54 PM

So it's been delayed. Oh well. I'm not buying this until Warner releases it in a standard Blu-ray amaray case anyway. Digibooks = for me.

IronFingaz 01-19-2011 01:06 AM

Sadface. I already ordered and paid for it at Axel Music. Guess i'll be picking something else up now instead.

I ordered it the very day it was cancelled. How's that for bad timing?

Very disappointing, I hope they resolve the licensing issues soon because I'd love to have the film on BD.

sam305 01-20-2011 10:53 AM

Damn it I wanted to pick this up and the color purple well hopefully we get a new release date soon.

SlaughterX 01-20-2011 02:45 PM

So is the DVD going to go OOP?

Jr7936 01-22-2011 06:53 AM

it looks like even though it is canceled best buy has them in their store since you can do in store pickup preorder for the 25th. I tried one to see if it will go though since I think having one of the ones they canceled could be a nice collectors item as well as its a great movie and I can't wait to see it

aiman04 01-22-2011 12:20 PM

They should already have this ready, I think even the retailers already have it in stock. Once Warner clears the rights to the music we should be able to buy it in no time.

Jr7936 01-22-2011 07:08 PM

so I got an email regarding my pre order of the in store pickup of Malcolm x which said the movie comes out 12/31/2025 now which is ridiculous. so i called bestbuy.com and they told me it was just a computer glitch and the in store pickup email will show on release date even though there are no copies to be shipped on their site or available for in store pickup.
So we shall see if i am able to get one of the canceled copies

No, DVD rights aren't the same as Blu-ray rights.
