How happy are you all who have a Vita with your purchase? I understand that there's a lot of brand loyalty here, and that's fine. I love my PS3 and defend it at every chance.

But I hear so little good about the Vita that I was just wondering now that there's been some time since it's released, how pleased people are with it and where the system is at this point and where it's headed.

My feelings are mixed. I'm not overly delighted with it but at the same time I'm not devastated at it either. It's just...there.

As far as the hardware, it's pretty solid. I still sometimes feel awkward holding it, but mainly when a game asks me to use back and front touch at the same time. Otherwise it's okay. Screen is solid.

Things that irk me-
-memory card pricing (really needs to be like half of what it is)
-US PSN support. There's like none of it. SCEE has ran Vita sales, special sales (tennis for wimbledon, golf during one of the opens), compatible PSP game sales. US gets like nothing. Which is why I only bought ONE game digitally (Escape Plan) and every other game is on card.
-software releases. Yeah, it was (arguable) stacked at release, but it's just a complete ghost town of a release schedule right now. NOTHING to play if you bought it Day 1.

Since I just got mine a couple weeks ago, I think I can make it to the fall though. Software wise, I loved Escape Plan, Uncharted looks pretty damn good, Rayman is just really pretty (but I kinda find the analog stick control more, er, "laggy" than it should be). Haven't played Gravity Rush or Unit 13 yet, but have decent hopes for them. But once I get through them, if I don't stagger it out, it'll be nothing until Assassin's Creed or LBP.

Though I do think I picked a decent time to jump in. Used gift cards on the vita, got uncharted free, got wipeout, hot shots, unit 13 all for 20 each, rayman and fifa for about 12, F1 for 16, etc. If I were to buy those digitally I'd have to pay TWICE as much and probably another 30-50 for a memory card.

Overall though, I'm mildly pleased with it. I like throwing in Rayman and F1 while I'm doing something else, and I like the experience Uncharted delivers (sans some sketchy shooting mechanics). But I'm worried about the future. Fall 2012 looks ok with AC & LBP, but Sony have GOT to get really good priced bundles out this fall for both hardware and multi-plat releases. I will NOT buy PS All stars on Vita AND PS3 for $100. I will buy it on PS3 first, then wait for a Vita sale. But if they do a $75-$80 bundle or something Day 1 for both, I'm in. Same for Most Wanted. These games that are coming out on PS3 that are virtually the exact same game need to be priced/bundled accordingly.

Just my .02 ;)

The Day 1 buyers have to be really begging for new stuff by now if they played through the launch stuff. They really needed a couple really good release in July. Sound Shapes is coming in a few weeks though, but its no longer Vita exclusive. But it is Buy 1 Get Both, so I'm in!!

I've only got 3 games on it but I'm really enjoying it. I've plat'd both Uncharted and Gravity Rush, and am still playing through Rayman Origins.
I can understand some people's frustration at the slow rate of releases, but it doesn't bother me too much since I still have a lot to play on my PS3. Really looking forwards to Assassin's Creed Liberation though.

RaijinUT 07-11-2012 04:48 PM

Slow releases are normal for any new consol, thus I can not see why people are outraged over it. Most consols do not have a good list of titles until 1-2 years after they are released.

Sales of the Vita in Japan are picking up. This is mostly due to a fair amount of games being released in Japan. Sales in the US will pick up as newer games start making their way over and US companies slowly start releasing more games.

However, with that being said, I think Sony slapped Vita purchasers with a huge slap in the face with their absolute lack of any Vita news at E3 and their continued lack of PSN suite (ps1, PSP titles) support thus far.

Paulness 07-23-2012 03:35 PM

I've been going back and replaying quite a few of the PSP games I had for digital download, as I find the dual thumbsticks significantly easier to play certain games. :::cough::: Me & My Katamari :::cough:::

also thanks to the sales the past few weeks, I have quite a few games to get through.

Yep and to me Vita had one of the better launch lineups. It didn't have a game on the level of a Soul Calibur to compete for best launch game but it had a lot of good solid games. Has had some solid post launch games to fill the void with too in games like Gravity Rush. And in October things are looking packed. At most there are a few PSN games I would have liked to have seen by now like Retro City Rampage that are reported to be held up by Microsoft's policy of XBLA releases needing to be the same week as the PSN releases due to them having the release schedule filled with stuff like the summer of XBLA promotion.

But the ones I really get a kick out of are the Nintendo fanboys trying to bash the Vita like 3DS didn't go through it too. Looked into it a few weeks back when Vita had five months under the belt and these are the number of games each had through five months in North America.

3DS

Month 1: 16

Month 2: 2

Month 3: 5

Month 4: 9

Month 5: 2

Total: 34

Vita

Month 1: 23

Month 2: 8

Month 3: 3

Month 4: 3

Month 5: 3

Total: 40

Yeah Vita hasn't had a ton of games in the last three months but that is because unlike the 3DS there were a lot more games pumped into it closer to launch. And even then in month 5 Vita had one more game. 3DS didn't even have a store at all for a few months. It only got demo's just before the Vita game out so about 11 months. And to this day there are very few 3DS downloads in the shop since it is 95% DSiWare which is like counting minis and stuff as Vita games. So Nintendo fanboys have nothing to be bragging about.

And as an owner of both with every Vita game so far and a decent sized 3DS collection to me even my least favorite Vita game was more enjoyable to me than most of my 3DS games. I hate the circle pad so much. Only games that have really impressed me on 3DS are DOAD and my name should give my bias away with that and Super Mario 3D Land. Kid Icarus has some of the worst controls ever, I don't want to play N64 ports short of a wrestling game and Mario Kart just doesn't do it for me. I do want to get Theatrhythm but honestly all I think about when I think about that is how I wish it were on Vita instead.

Have loved every Nintendo handheld up until now while I hate the PSP but man have Nintendo let me down this time while Sony have blown me away and are on track to knock GBA off the throne for me.

And yes I am still playing the Vita more than the PS3 even. I keep buying PS3 games and neglect them because of this damn thing :ohnoes: Even when I am at home on the couch I would be on if playing the PS3 there I am with the Vita  And that is without the big games I am most hyped for even being out yet in Ragnarok, Persona 4 and Zero Escape hitting. The only thing that is going to keep the Vita from owning my soul the rest of the year is Guild Wars 2.

Anybody else getting Puddle and Foosball 2012? Both look like they could be fun and good pricing. Picked up a $20 card and with what I have sitting in my wallet still will be able to get those and the other two Gravity Rush DLC packs. Going to be a good Vita day.

And Sound Shapes only a few weeks away!:rock::rock:

I already bought Foosball 2012. $6 for PS3 and Vita version is great. Played a couple games, I love it. Great pick up and play game to add to you library. Don't want to know how hard it gets though :ohnoes:

And Sound Shapes release day will be glorious

The A.I. is pretty incompetent no matter the level IMO. The real trouble is getting your shots on the net :p Pretty much all the goals against me have been own goals and it seems the higher the level the more the A.I. scores own goals too :ohnoes: But beginner was just brutal. I swear I sat around for 10 minutes waiting for the A.I. to finally manage to get the ball going forward instead of banking it off the wall right back to the same row. Or back toward the goalie which would then not even get it to the defenders and end up killing the ball forcing the Vita shake :p

Awful A.I. aside I am enjoying it though.

JTStarkiller 07-25-2012 04:56 PM

I just picked up Hot Shots for $17 and change (PS+ price) on the PSN store. Great deal. With that, I'm up to seven Vita games now (MGSHD, Super Stardust, Plants vs. Zombies, Mutant Blobs, MLB, and Wipeout). I love this thing.

Now I could just use PSone classics and MLB.tv.

These fall games can not come soon enough for Vita.

I am excited for Street Fighter x Tekken for it too.

I bought Foosball 2012. I am really enjoying this game. Seems to be a perfect fit on the Vita. Perfect game to play a match or two then come back later. The 3 star system brings a lot of replayability to the World Tour mode (though it does not get tough until you hit the last few stages). The crossplay feature is done well and have yet to experience any major lag. Also can't complain that you get the PS3 version for free.

For Puddle, I think it should have been free if you bought the PS3 version. No way am I paying for the same game when I already paid $10 for it on the PS3.

I've played it a bit more and so far the AI still is rather beatable, but I'm okay with that. What I'm not a huge fan of is just really long games because of 10 goals rule or more. What I first liked about foosball was how quick I could play a game between doing other things. But I sometimes don't want a 15-20 minute game, which is what most of the world tour has started to become now. Not a bad game though.

Sound shapes next week:rock:

I love my Vita. I'm currently playing Plants vs Zombies and Gravity Rush. I dabble with Mortal Kombat here and there. Really waiting for Guacamelee and PS All Stars! I use it and my 3ds equally. Right now I'm at home more so I play PS3 and 360 more.

One of the things that kind of drives me nuts is when you plug a Vita into a PS3, the console becomes paralyzed :/ I hope it lives in more harmony with the next Playstation console.

There just hasn't been too much of note released in the last month or so. That should change later this year though when games like Assassin's Creed come out etc.

PirateBooty 08-03-2012 06:27 PM

There were a lot of posts/threads that were lost earlier in the year. This place was moving quite a bit up until that event.

Hey who says I didn't have a change of heart!:p Been the PSN game I have been most hyped for since launch. Also hoping that blatant Trials rip-off turns out good :)

Persona 4 Arena, Sound Shapes and the MGS4 trophy patch. Seems like a good week.
