What 3-D BDs have the most/best "POP-OUT!" effects?

Hey all,

New to 3D BD here. In fact, I just went 3D a few days ago.

Anyway, I picked up a 3D t.v. along with Tangled 3D BD to get me started. One thing I have to admit is that I am a sucker for all of the "pop out" scenes. Especially when there are objects floating in front of the screen.

For example, in Tangled, my favorite 3D scenes are when they launch all of the lanterns and there are two lanterns that float out into the room for a bit. Also, the menu screen as the lanterns float out from the t.v. is really cool IMO.

I know...I know...but I just can't help myself. I absolutely LOVE the "gimmicky" shots. :p:o

Certainly, among 3D users I cannot be the only one...:ohnoes:

Anyway, I am looking to get some more 3D content but I want to get titles with the best/most instances of things coming out at you, or floating around in front of the screen. Especially if there are any good live action ones.

Can anyone provide me with their favorites?

Thanks.

-Dave

Despicable Me has a few pop out moments that I can remember.

Ocean Wonderland has THE best pop out moment. Saying nothing more, but if you can get it cheap its good.

IMAX Under the Sea, it's the best by far. A fish will literally come outa your TV right in your face. It's a must see.

There's quite a few REALLY nice pop-outs in Yogi Bear. Of course...it's Yogi Bear so...

Resident Evil Afterlife had some fun stuff as far as live action pop out. And for all that the movie is worth, so did Step Up 3D.

Step up 3d is the best bet if you want a lot of things popping out of your screen. I have most of the Movies but not the IMAX ones.

Except for Wild Ocean and Dinosaurs Alive, you can't go wrong with the IMAX Blu ray 3D presentations. Lots of pop outs. Deep Sea, Space Station, Ultimate Wave Tahiti have lots of pop outs. There is a scene on Space Station where the Space Shuttle blasts off and a piece of glass looks like it lands right on your glasses.

Tangled is the best for pop-out moments. Shrek Forever After and Megamind are also extremely impressive. How To Train your Dragon has some impressive depth effects.

Sea Monsters

IMAX Sea Monsters has a Tylosaurus (The T-Rex of the ocean!) jump out of the water and snap its jaws right in front of your nose.

Few pop-outs compare...

I thought Despicable Me had a few good pop-outs, especially during the end credits.

IMAX knows 3D. We own 8 or 9 IMAX BD's, including space station and Under the Sea. You're right about the lift-off, especially with surround sound cranked-up, it's just downright fun.

Thanks for the info, all. :)

It looks like some IMAX 3D BDs are in my future...

Honestly, I figured I would see Alice in Wonderland on this list, but it looks like IMAX takes home the trophy for the best 3D pop out scenes. :whip:

Edit: Regarding Yogi Bear: I just watched this with my GF about a week ago. We both wanted to see it but went into it with VERY low expectations becuase of all the negative word around this movie. To be honest, though, we both enjoyed it quite a bit. Sure, the movie was dumb fun, but it was FUN none-the-less. Silly premise aside, it did make us laugh quite a bit and I thought it captured the feel of the cartoon quite well. Everything that happened, I could easily imagine happening in the old cartoons. Especially the interactions between Yogi/Boo Boo and Ranger Smith. I may take some heat for this, but I would give Yogi a 3/4 stars...:o:p:D

That's not to say that I don't enjoy movies that require brain cells and have no explosions or CGI. I just take Yogi Bear for what it is, a fun (and harmless) adventure for the family. :)

Very hard to come by but Sammy's Adventure was great. Lots of pop outs and great depth. Some of the best 3D I've seen so far.

I can't speak for any IMAX films, waiting for price to dip but hear they're spectacular, but I have to say cloudy with a chance
Of meatballs was one of my favorites so far...minimal ghosting, great depth, and some very good pop out scenes. I'd have to say open house was equally good 3D but I enjoyed the cloudy meatballs story more overall.

It's sad movie directors has not yet learned to direct 3D pop-out films. The one i have right now with most pop-outs I'd say is AIW.

You actually prefer the gimmicky pop out 3d shit as opposed added depth to the image? You know, the thing about 3d that isn't a gimmick, that actually immerses the viewer

Because pop-out is not what 3d should be about. That's just gimicky. Depth to the image is what 3d should and is about. It's much less obtrusive and actually immersive.

that's much more important than pop-out effects.

Downhere 05-01-2011 02:29 AM

I think both pop-out and depth are equally important. There should always be some pop-out during a movie, not just great depth.
