Well, this shot has been completely replaced with CGI. It's the opening shot of "The Inner Light" and it used to be a shot of the 4-foot Enterprise model:

The opening shot of "Sins of the Father" was replaced as well:

Looking at the captures I can't wait for the sampler to arrive on my doorstep, I know what I'll be watching that day.

Hopefully the amazing quality won't show up to many of the occasional flaws in set design and make-up. I can't remember many complaints about TOS on Blu-ray so TNG should pass with flying colours.

please don't tell me people are looking at a still frame and seeing different stars in the background and saying they ruined it.. it's like... being bumper to bumper with some person going the speed limit in the passing lane on the interstate... just facepalm... facepalm.

Welcome to the forum, in time you will get to meet the "screen shot" police, they are a fun bunch ;)

might be kind of a stupid question but I don't feel like read threw 116 pages on this so does anyone know when Season 1 of Star Trek:TNG is coming out,I would guess in the next few months sense the sampler comes out in two weeks.

So anyone know the date ?

Yeah, I know about Sins... didn't notice the Inner Light one though. That one does look different enough to be a different shot.

Hasn't been announced yet, just '2012'. My guess is either toward the end of summer (if we are lucky), most likely 4th quarter sometime...

Please don't speak that way Rik  LOL! I certainly hope it isn't that late.

Yeah, me too... Just thinking realistically... There's a LOT of work to be done on these shows, and I'm not sure how far into it they are...

I'd be happy to see all 7 seasons dumped on us next month!

Bill Hunt's review is up:

Please don't tell me you took my 'Paramount ruin everything!' seriously. I couldn't be more thrilled about the quality we've seen with the screen-shots so far, it's going to be like watching a brand new show!

It's funny, when they asked me if I thought people would notice the Klingon ship being different in the opening of Sins of the Father, I told them the Star Trek geeks would notice that the stars were different... :D

They probably thought I was joking...

Are you aware of what the reasoning behind that was? Do they intend to replace all the 4-foot miniature Enterprise shots with CGI to maintain a consistent look for the ship? Or is it that they were just unable to locate that particular shot at this point in the restoration work?

I'm assuming any case where CGI has been applied is a matter of the exact film element not currently being located. (But I don't have specific information as to why it was replaced)

I wouldn't be surprised if these shots were used over and over, so generic shots in space of the Enterprise wouldn't be specifically labeled 'Inner Light', so they may have to go through every shot of the Enterprise to find all the exact ones. If the film exists, I'm pretty sure the plan is to use it...

Are there other places the 4-foot model was used in these 3 episodes? I don't know the models that well, but I can check other scenes where it should be present...

Nice, though it looks extremely grainy.

Probably because it was shot on film.

I see you guys finally decided to light up the Bussard collectors on the nacelles in 'Farpoint'!

I made a bunch of GIF animations comparing the original DVD images vs. some of the leaked HD screenshots:

That should be it for these three episodes. The 4-footer debuted in "The Defector" early in season 3 but wasn't needed later on for "Sins". That particular shot from "Inner Light" was first seen in "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II", right at the start of season 4.

Curious though, how did they handle this shot at the end of "The Inner Light"? Is it original or CGI'd I wonder? I think it's from season 2:

Here it is in "The Measure of a Man":

In the opening credits for season one, there was a weird - some would say wrong - situation in which the starfield seen inside the rings of Saturn were isolated from the starfield on the rest of the frame, so much so that when the "camera" swept past Saturn, those stars moved as if they were trapped between the planet and the rings. Has that been corrected?

Whoops, nevermind, Bill Hunt's review covered that:

"the opening credit sequence still includes the mismatched perspective on the moving stars when the ringed planet wipes the frame to reveal the Enterprise-D. It clearly could have been corrected digitally but was kept as a stylistic choice."
