Sci Fi now(UK magazine) just did a 25 year special on TNG which included an interview with Craig Weiss (CBS director of visual effects). He said "there was originally talk of just up-converting from standard def, but we've gone through the arduous process of rebuilding them just for the fans so that the experience from beginning to end will be consistent and really wonderful" really glad they didn't go that route!

Rest of the article was pretty interesting but nothing especially new on the subject.

They also reviewed the first season on blu ray and gave it 4 out of 5 stars. They mainly focused on the non technical side but said the picture was impressive.

Not sure what the forum rules are on scanned in magazine articles but if someone could clarify I would be happy to link it.

I'm also glad they didn't go that route. The softness would have been atrocious.

I don't know if this has been asked, but is there a date for Season 2 and so on?

Nothing yet but December is a possibility.

I pre-ordered this and have been watching an episode here and there. I'm just starting to watch disc 2 and the episode "The Last Outpost" is the first on the disc, which is episode 4, which should read as 104 but in the menu it's reading as 107...the others on the disc continue to count up from 107 - 108, 109 etc.

What happened to episodes 5 and 6? Disc one only has the 2 part pilot + The Naked Now + Code of Honor...episodes 1-3.

Is this an error on the blu-ray or are they numbered weird on purpose?

Edit: Here is officially what I see on the menu screen on disc 2 for all the episodes, in appearing order on the menu (top to bottom):

The Last Outpost
Prod # ST:TNG 107
Air Date: 10.19.87
Stardate: 41386.4

Where No One Has Gone Before
Prod # ST:TNG 106
Air Date: 10.26.87
Stardate: 41263.1

Lonely Among Us
Prod # ST:TNG 108
Air Date: 11.02.87
Stardate: 41249.3

Justice
Prod # ST:TNG 109
Air Date: 11.09.87
Stardate: 41255.8

The Battle
Prod # 110
Air Date: 11.16.87
41723.9

Aside from episode numbers on all episodes being wrong (I think), discrepancies are highlighted in red, unless of course they are episodes to do with time travel.

As well, the air dates (at least from what I can see on IMDB quickly) are off by 2 days. With The Last Outpost being credited as aired on the 17th, not the 19th as shown on the disc.

Edit again: Checked disc 3 and Hide and Q is listed as a continuation of the number sequence as Prod # 111 but Haven the next episodes is 105.

I guess prod # really is prod # and not episode number? That's all I can think of. But the number sequencing 101, 102, 103, fits with it being season 1 episode 1, etc.

You can compare the production order versus airdate order here:

http://tng.trekcore.com/episodes/

You can even sort them however you like (even stardate order).

There are quite a lot of TV shows where airdate and production order is different. In a show like TNG it's not a big deal because every episode is standalone, but I remember X Files did this a few times and it became a bit confusing. Also I think Seinfeld did as well, but on the DVDs they changed the order back to the production order.

I forgot this was released! :) Then I noticed the $85 price tag. :( I'm gonna wait a while to get this one.

mzupeman 08-10-2012 12:09 PM

Just a reminder people, today is August 10th... hopefully the studio comes through and gets us our replacement discs within the next week as promised :)

It was $54.99 week 1 at BBY with an U&S coupon and 59.99 on AMZ.

Should have jumped on it sooner. Sorry to hear you missed out but it will go down again.

Didn't know about those deals. :(

Maybe next time.

Well, I wouldn't want to watch Season One in production order ever, otherwise, Tasha Yar would inexplicably
[Show spoiler]come back to life after having been killed in the episode prior
. Also, if I remember correctly, in Season Four, the episode "Family", which is designed to take place immediately after "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II", was filmed long afterwards, with several episodes separating them.

So if I understand Star Trek: The Next Generation season 1 and season 2 are in blu ray !! Is this all the episodes?

When is season 3 going to come out?

How does Star Trek: The Next Generation look in blu ray? Is it full screen?

I hear it is going to cost alot of money and time because they have to do all the episodes over again.

When is Star Trek: Deep Space Nine or Star Trek: Voyager going to come out in blu ray?

Yes they are complete season sets.

Season 3 is out April 30th in the US

It looks incredible and it's presented in its OAR

Yes they need to rebuild each episode from scratch so it will take years to complete all 7 seasons

There are no confirmed plans to remaster DS9 or VOY st present
