MW3 Hardened Edition Contents & Elite Premium Membership Details
[Show spoiler]http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/327...comparison.jpg

Quote:

An annual subscription to Call of Duty's forthcoming Elite service will cost £34.99 ($49.99), Activision has announced.

This fee will include early access to every piece of downloadable content released over that period - around 20 add-ons that will be delivered no more than one month apart from one another. And it won't just be extra maps - new Spec Op missions and game modes are also planned.

Maps and other content downloaded via one's premium Elite subscription will still be yours even if you let your premium membership lapse, the company said. Players won't be required to maintain an ongoing paid subscription (a la Sony's PlayStation Plus) to access their digital goods downloaded through Elite.

Additionally, the subscription to Premium Elite will offer eligibility to compete in online competitions, with prizes apparently including virtual items, iPads and jeeps.

These matches will be tailored for players of all skills levels and will be both moderated and refereed 24/7 to ensure fairness and monitor cheating.

Premium Elite will also offer subscribers eight times as much capacity as free users for uploading HD clips of multiplayer matches featuring up to four minutes of play in total.

Subscribers to the Premium service will be granted exclusive access to expert strategy and analysis too, via regularly updated videos presented by the best players in the world.

Alongside tips videos, Premium Elite subscribers will receive episodic video content. Activision has a number of shows in production, some of which involve veteran Hollywood producers Tony and Ridley Scott of Top Gun/Blade Runner fame.

Will Arnett and Jason Batemen, co-stars of American comedy series par excellence Arrested Development are also creating an exclusive episodic TV show called Noob Tube, in which the actors provide commentary on footage of multiplayer games.

A year's subscription to Elite Premium will be included free in the Hardened edition of Modern Warfare 3 when it's released later this year. Buyers will also earn "Lifetime Founder" status, which is a good one for livening up the C.V.

MW3 Teaser Trailers

Modern Warfare 3's New Strike Packages
[Show spoiler]
Quote:

Before I get into the meat of what Strike Packages mean for Modern Warfare 3, say goodbye to the killstreak. And say hello to pointstreaks, all 28 of them. No longer will player kills be the only way to build up streaks. Sure, kills still count, but in MW3, completing objectives in gametypes like Capture the Flag and Seek and Destroy will reward players with points they can cash in to call in recon drones, attack helicopters, sentries and other power-ups. Kill assists count toward pointstreak numbers too, letting supporting players, not just the dominant virtual marksman have all the fun.

As you can see, in the bottom right you can see pointstreak icons with three horizontal black bars next to them. When you gain points part of that bar fills up, and when all three bars are full that enables your first reward. You can also check it out in the gameplay videos. The screen I took this from was the keynote speech video, around the 30min 35sec mark, you can see it clearly building up as he is getting points, and it emptying when he gets killed.

Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling explained the change at Call of Duty XP, saying "the killstreak system was optimized for one game type: Team Deathmatch." Now, players will be rewarded more handsomely for actually completing each gametype's objectives.

Modern Warfare 3's pointstreaks come in three groups, dubbed Strike Packages. Players can customize their classes with one of three Strike Packages, adding a new layer of personalization to COD multiplayer. The three types are Assault, Support and Specialist. Each has its own list of 'streaks. Here they are.

If you like "big body counts, the Assault package is for you. With Assault, you can call in UAVs and care package drops, naturally, but this is also where the big guns live: assault helicopters, AC130, Predator missiles, mortar strikes, Juggernaut suits. Assault brings the pain. Your streak count will reset every time you die, if you go for the Assault Strike Package.

Support is about "helping the team win," not just stacking your body count.Sounds nice, doesn't it? For the less aggressive team player, Support deals in 'streaks that lean more defensive. This includes the option to drop a remote gun turret, call in a hacked airdrop, deploy ballistic vests to your team, drop an EMP or, ultimately, call in an Osprey gunship that also delivers five airdrop packages (one of them hacked). With Support, your streak count will not reset upon death.

Finally, Specialist is all about perks.Become a super soldier with Specialist, which lets players stack on additional perks. You'll get up to six perks—including Sleight of Hand, Hardline, Recon, et al—as the 'streaks pile up. After your eighth kill, however, you get every perk available to you. You become a monster.

Here are a few of the new perks coming in Modern Warfare 3. (Full List Can Be Found Further Down The Page)
  • Recon – Explosive damage paints the target on the mini map
  • Blind Eye – Undetectable by air support/sentries
  • Assassin – Undetectable by UAV, portable radar, thermal, heartbeat
  • Quickdraw – Faster aim down sight
  • Stalker – Move faster while aiming
  • Marksman – Identify targets at longer range
Some perks you wont see return in MW3. "No One Man Army, no Nuke, no Commando and no Last Stand," Infinity Ward promises.

New Progression
[Show spoiler]
Quote:

Another big change to Modern Warfare multiplayer is Weapon Proficiencies, a new leveling system for firearms. Basically, the more often you use a weapon in MW3, whether it's an assault rifle, handgun, shotgun or sniper rifle, the better that weapon gets. In real terms, this means players can reduce gun sway, decrease recoil and add more attachments over time—among other things.

Oh, and if you really just adore player progression and experience points, know that the leveling up of Modern Warfare's multiplayer has been adapted for the Modern Warfare 3's version of Spec-Ops mode.

There is also the Prestige Shop, that lets you choose how you are rewarded for prestiging.

Modern Warfare 3's New Gameplay Modes
[Show spoiler]
Quote:

Competitive multiplayer in Modern Warfare 3 will be expanded with at least two new prominent gameplay modes, Kill Confirmed and Team Defender.

You may have seen a snippet of Kill Confirmed in the leaked-early multiplayer trailer. That's the one with the big glowing dog tags that drop from corpses. Those dog tags are how players confirm kills in this Team Deathmatch variant. Kills don't count as a point for your team until you or one of you allies grabs a dead man's dropped dog tags. That adds an intriguing layer of strategy to Team Deathmatch, as opposing players can grab the dog tags of their fallen teammates before you do. And if they see one of their comrades lying dead, dog tags floating above their body, they'll know where your headed if you want to score.
Team Defender, which I didn't get to preview, is a Capture The Flag variant, just without the flag return. Hold onto an enemy flag for as long as possible, sticking together as a team to survive.

There will also be new Private Match game types added to MW3, each of which has been "significantly enhanced to allow players to create new, customizable game modes" that they can share with friends. "Through [Call of Duty Elite], subscribers can vote on favorite new modes and those modes could make their way into public playlists," Activision says. Here are those new Private Match modes.
  • Infection – The infected kills enemies to recruit them for the infected team.
  • Drop Zone – Hold the Drop Zone for Team Points and Care Packages.
  • Team Juggernaut – With the support of a juggernaut, kill players on the opposing team. The first team to reach the score limit wins.
  • Juggernaut – Kill the Juggernaut to become the new Juggernaut.
  • Gun Game – Be the first to dominate with every gun.
  • One in the Chamber – Gain ammo by eliminating enemies. Be the last to survive.

What follows is a detailed summary of what we understand are the events of Modern Warfare 3 described to us by those in possession of dozens of images from the game, as well as voice over recordings. While we haven't seen the game in action ourselves, we believe that the imagery and this plot description is accurate. That doesn't mean things can't change before release. Levels could be altered or completely cut before the game gets into your hands.

Quote:

Modern Warfare 3 opens as Modern Warfare 2 closed: The United States under siege by Russian forces, ultranationalist Vladimir Makarov on the loose, Captain John "Soap" MacTavish and Captain John Price wounded and on the run with the Russian informant known as Nikolai.

Fleeing to a safehouse in Dharmasala, India, the three are attacked by Makarov's men. In this firefight players take on the role of Yuri, a loyalist who works for Nikolai. Their safehouse compromised, the group flee the area in a helicopter.

The game then cuts to Manhattan where Russia is launching an attack on the city from a fleet of ships parked in the Hudson River. (It appears the famous U.S.S. Intrepid may be destroyed.) The U.S. calls in Delta Force to repel the attack. You take on the role of Frost, a Delta Force operative under the command of Sandman. Your goal is to take out a jamming tower on top of the New York Stock Exchange to open the area for a U.S. counterattack.

Following the mission, Delta flies out of the city on a Blackhawk, gunning down enemy choppers as they make their way to the harbor where they have to infiltrate and take down a Russian sub which is coordinating the attack.

As the New York missions wrap up the game jumps forward in time half a year, thrusting players into the role of a Russian agent tasked with protecting the president of Russia as he flies to sign a peace treaty with the U.S. The plane is attacked by hijackers mid-air who attempt to kidnap the president and his daughter. The daughter manages to escape. The president of Russia in hand, Makarov vows to prevent a peace treaty by getting the launch codes out of the president and launching an attack against the U.S.

The game then returns us to Price, Soap and Yuri, now in Africa in a search for Makarov. They meet with a local South African arms dealer who tells them about a shipment of chemical weapons that Makarov is trying to buy. The group make their way to Sierra Leone to secure the weapons from African militia.

Next, players take on the role of an SAS operative who is tasked with stopping a delivery of weapons of mass destruction at a London dockyard. A gun battle ensues, and the agents are chased through the London subway. The mission culminates with a series of unmarked trucks exploding in front of the house of Parliament, releasing a deadly chemical agent.

Several other European cities and military bases are hit by similar terrorist attacks backed by Russia, and the death toll rises to the tens of thousands. The series of chemical attacks opens the door for a Russian military blitz strikes across the continent.

Price discovers that the South African arms dealer who tipped them off about the chemical weapons deceived them and travels to Somalia to find the man and interrogate him. Through the arms dealer, Price discovers that Makarov's right hand man, Volk, is hiding out in Paris.

The game's attention next shifts to Hamburg, Germany where players take on the role of a U.S. tank gunner fighting to push back a Russian advance backed by armored divisions.

As Hamburg falls, the game shifts us back to the story of Price and his crew. Now in Paris, players control Delta Force operative Frost who, with the help of the French special forces, leads an assault on Volk's location in the underground catacombs of the city. Next, players take to the sky supporting Frost's ground movements as a gunner in an AC-130.

After capturing and interrogating Volk, Frost learns that Makarov has a meeting in a Prague hotel. Players control Yuri as he and Soap slip into the Russian-controlled city and set-up an ambush for Makarov in a church bell tower. Makarov somehow catches wind of the trap and escapes. Soap, Yuri and Price then have to fight their way out of the city.

Yuri leads the team to one of Makarov's headquarters in the Czech mountains and the group infiltrates the location, looking for clues. They discover that the ultranationlist has the president and is trying to get the codes out of him. Makarov has also discovered the location of the Russian president's daughter. The group move out to Berlin to try and prevent her kidnapping. Playing as Frost, gamers must find the daughter and protect her, while making their way through war-torn Berlin. The daughter, however, is captured and flown away.

Frost next makes his way to the Kremlin where a task force of operatives attack and free the hostages, but Makarov manages to escape again.

The game's final mission occurs in Dubai, where Yuri, Price and Sandman launch an assault on a heavily guarded hotel, eventually finding Makarov and, yes, finally killing him.

It also appears that the game may also include a post-credits level that features the burning of Washington, D. C.

The stage seems set for a passing of the torch: from player-controlled members of Task Force 141 to the new characters from Delta Force.

All I need to know is that Search and Destroy is still in, and quick-scoping and hacks are out. Then I will most likely buy this.

EDIT: Barret is still in so that's a plus. Now just tell me shotguns will be PRIMARY weapons again, no snipers with AA-12's please.

November 8th it comes out? Too bad I'll be too busy playing Uncharted 3. I'll buy it when the price drops. Last two COD I got sucked into the hype and bought it first day and ended up disappointed. Not happening again this year.

Unless there are really good pre-order bonuses from Amazon (like $20 credit plus some DLC) I'll be waiting for a used copy. I'm tired of seeing games drop 10-20 bucks within a month of being released. Portal 2 is a prime example. Been down to 34.99 multiple times and it's not even 2 months old.

Sweet cant wait... MW1 got me into multiplayer gaming and ive never looked back since.... Cant wait to hear more details on this game...

It looks like Spec Ops Survival Mode will be MW answer to Zombies :D

I like how they have kept the Model 1887's but "modernized" them lol

Call of Duty: The poor man's Battlefield 3

Tired of this franchise, moved onto bigger and better things years ago and haven't looked back. There used to be a time in games where the GOTY was the best selling game of the year, now, not even close. It was something to take pride in because you definitely cant say that about film. But now games have been boiled down to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Thanks for contributing to the downfall COD.

I can agree that WAW and Black Ops, both treyarch games were completely terible in my opinion. But the Modern Warfare games have both been pretty good. It was COD4: MW that really launched tje itle to where its at thanks to IW, its just a shame 3arc had to feed off of IW achievment. And if you look at it that way MW is a 2 year cycle not a yearly cash in. I will never again buy another 3arc game.

I myself will be getting both this and Battlefield 3. That way I can have the best of both :)

I like the idea and destruction of Battlefield series (and BFBC) but it sorely lacks the one important thing needed for online games: good team oriented players.

MW games are made for some teamwork and all kinds of Rambo situations. BF are not, yet everyone tries to play like Rambo. If you get into a good clan or have a lot of friends who will play long term I can see how it would be fun, but and random lobby will get crushed by a coordinated team effort. So either you are crushing no teamwork noobs, or being crushed by a team. I've never seen a long hard fought on both sides battle that wasn't one-sided in a BF game.

I will most likely by both, along with Skyrim (man November is going to hurt my wallet) so I have all the options. The only thing I may get between now and then is possibly Rage. Assuming they don't go all Borderlands and ruin the art to appeal to younger audiences.

Some, but not all, of the info leaked on Modern Warfare 3 earlier today is accurate, so says Infinity Ward exec Robert Bowling.

The developer's creative strategist addressed the massive info dump, which purported to reveal full plot details, locations, weapons and game visuals, via a post on his Twitter feed:

Quote:

"A lot of hype & a lot of leaked info on #MW3, some still accurate, some not. To avoid spoiling the experience, I'd wait for the real reveal."
Presumably the whole thing was right then. RB's just spewing some damage limitation PR stuff. The fact that a few PS3 magazines were advertising "EXCLUSIVE" MW3 info in their next issues really backs up this info leek as credible. Probably the olnly stuff thats not acurate will be something silly like the name of a map lol oh! and Maybe the cover art. It looks a bit too Battlefield like to me. Unles thats what they're goin for.

Edit: Should also add I wouldnt be surprised if it was intentionaly leaked to start the hype train going into E3

Solidus911A 05-13-2011 08:23 PM

Yeah I agree I can only see them changing the name of maps or removing maps which will more than likely make it to DLC down the road and not included in the finished product. Most of this looks legit to me

I think everyone knew that they would reveal at E3 it was definitely no secret there that stuff was going to get leaked out to get the hype going.

Solidus911A 05-13-2011 08:25 PM

I hope they bring back the titles and emblems again

ZING! My friend said he is going to play MW3 just to see how the story ends, I was like, WTF are you serious???? And like there is going to be any sort of resolution, they have to keep the cow alive so they can milk it dry.
