If I do end up getting the Vita (at $249 I'd really like one), this is #1 on my "to buy" list.
I hope it'll come to the US (I don't see why they'd show it at E3 if it wouldn't).

Shin-Ra 06-07-2011 08:24 PM

Those specs and screens are from us.playstation.com so it's definitely coming over.

Good to see Team Siren making another game in another genre. They are a quality team.

You can see in some of the screens, the cat follows her around.

edit: we may get some more details from Famitsu soon.

edit2: Hands-On Project Gravity, Sony Japan’s Creative PlayStation Vita Title
Quote:

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan are working on a Hot Shots Golf game and a brand new IP, tentatively called “Project Gravity” for PlayStation Vita. Project Gravity begins with cel-shaded, perhaps anime-inspired visuals, and a girl named "Kat." Her name is in quotes because she has amnesia. Kat gets her name from a magical gravity bending cat you discover very early in the game.

Press R and Kat floats freely. Players can aim where she lands by tilting the Vita and using the right analog stick to change the camera angle. Press L and gravity reappears and makes Kat fall towards the white circle. Project Gravity has specific spots for Kat to land on. Touch all of them and the game progresses.

Project Gravity has stylish cutscenes that resemble manga or a comic book. Players flip through panels by swiping the touch screen as if they were reading a graphic novel. The game had voice acting, but it was all in Japanese.

I took Kat into her first fight when I stepped in the next area. She can kick enemies by pressing the square button. A three hit combo ending with a jump kick finished off the purple blobs. Kat also has a gravity kick, which you can take out a blob in a single hit. An armored enemy later on was only vulnerable to gravity kicks, which you can do by floating (press R), aiming (tilt), and hitting square to strike.

The demo ended right after the fight. While short, out of all the PlayStation Vita games from Sony Computer Entertainment, Project Gravity left the biggest impression.

Thanks Shin! :)

Think I found my new desktop background hehe (Kitten and Dusty looking at scenery from side of building - love that pic)

Shin-Ra 06-13-2011 06:36 PM

I couldn't extract the pictures via normal means (source code/Safari activity window) so I had to manually stitch rectangles of zoomed in artwork together. Real pain in the arse!

Kotaku has a video of the whole E3 demo, including battle, 3D and comic cutscenes. So pretty.

edit: oh yeah.. it's gonna be a launch title!

More direct-feed gameplay at the start of this SCEJ compilation video:

The monsters aren't just inky blobs as it first seemed. This one transforms from a crouching rabbit shape to a standing Silent Hill-esque deformed humanoid.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3524/...1a1b07f1_o.gif

Seems to be quite a variety of odd... shapes and behaviours!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3649/...63391c44_o.gif

Looks like you need to dodge this one's 'joust' ;) and then hit the bubble in the back.

Shin-Ra 06-26-2011 12:25 AM

Keiichiro Toyama linked another video of the English language demo, judging by the YouTube account - played by a Korean not fully understanding the controls and aiming.

But.. we get to see more of the environment and falling animation you don't see so much of when played properly!

I am so getting a PS Vita!!! I've gotten such great use out of my PSP (I'm on my second one) due to the great games for it, the Vita is already shaping up with some pretty awesome upcoming titles - Uncharted, Silent Hill, now this! I can't wait!!!!

SCEE are calling this Gravity Rush now and the city has a name!

http://uk.playstation.com/psvita/gam.../Gravity-Rush/

Enter the mystical city of Hekseville and discover your gravity defying powers.
  • Take part in an epic adventure with abilities that use the PlayStation Vita system's unique control methods.
  • Manipulate the forces of gravity and 3D space.
  • Enjoy an original graphic style modelled on Japanese and European animation.
It also says "with network play features" but those specs are frequently wrong.

SCEA's finalised the name as GRAVITY RUSH too:

Gamescom trailer! :D

PS Vita - Gravity Rush (gamescom 2011) - YouTube

These snippets are from E3 and shortly after but still relevant:

Quote:

Each episode begins in a town that Kat can freely explore. Toyama explained that Project Gravity has a linear story split into episodes, but players can return to cleared areas and tackle challenge missions. Since gravity bending is a flexible mechanic, Toyama said we the team was able to implement it in a variety of ways. Specifically for challenge missions, Toyama says these are time attack-like.

Players will be able to develop Kat too. Toyama says there are a few parameters connected to attack power and Kats gravity bending ability to level up. Between five and ten stats are being considered. Project Gravity will also have items to pick up around town and an ability system. The team is still playing with ideas on how players can unlock new skills.
http://www.siliconera.com/2011/06/22...enge-missions/

Quote:

"Yes, she does [have amnesia]," said Nicolo Accordino, Associate Project Manager at Sony Computer Entertainment America, when were discussing Project Gravity. "She wakes up in a town called Hexaville. She doesnt know who she is or whats going on. What she knows is she can fight and that when she is near this one cat, so a cat creature, she gains the ability to manipulate gravity. The whole story is driven on this point who am i and why am I here? Why do I look different than everyone else in this town? And, youll see the people in this town will react to her in very different ways based on whats happening."

That last bit piqued my interest. I asked how other characters react to Kat.

"Its going to kind of be in the same way superheroes like Spider-Man are viewed in good and bad light depending on who wants to make them out to be what. She ends up beating some people and then people always think whenever she shows up theres trouble. Not everyone in the town is going to be on her side. People will show up that want different things out of her," Accordino added.

I asked about the cat that follows Kat too, but details are being kept under wraps now. "Other than the cat being a cat, I cant say much," Accordino joked.
http://www.siliconera.com/2011/06/28...ain-character/

Quote:

"As you go through the game you will gain more combat abilities. Some of them are going to add to your basic stock combo, mostly kick driven. Kats a kicker," Nicolo Accordino, Associate Project Manager at Sony Computer Entertainment America, explained. "A lot of them are going to be gravity based. We want a lot of the attacks you see to be based on the fact that she can manipulate her gravity and the gravity kind of immediately around her."

"This isnt trying to be Devil May Cry. Its not trying to be Bayonetta. Were not trying to overwhelm you with a bunch of enemies at once. What were really trying to do is give people a more accessible way to play an action oriented game."

Project Gravity uses standard controls, similar to a PS3 game, aside from touch screen page turning during the comic book style cutscenes. The development team is considering how to use the reader touch panel and still tweaking the controls. Accordino explained one of the ideas on the table, "When you are falling towards enemies people have a tough time deciding where to go. Maybe an idea where be to touch where you want to go on the touch screen. Thats something the designers are thinking about. Whether that happens or not dont know."

The Japanese PSVITA blog posted a few more screens! Unfortunately they're of the highly compressed variety.

Unexpected and niiiice.

Your gravity-crowed rival leaping buildings as seen in the pre-E3 demo.

Hopefully they're sharpening up Kat/Kitten's costume a bit.

Gamespot Asia video interview with Keiichiro Toyama, introducing the game's concept. He's been talking to the Japanese press in recent weeks but unfortunately nobody's been so kind as to translate AFAIK.

(you can control the direction of flight with the right stick as well as the gyro, but try the gyro first for the floaty sensation!)
