Of course, that time it was only due to Harrison Ford having a potty emergency. ;)

Then people are taking things are too seriously. Someone liking a film more than someone else shouldn't equal nerd rage.

Beast, it is a fact that 99% of the fans hate Jar Jar so bringing him up will only start arguing. That isn't your intent is it?
One, this is the Indiana Jones thread. Two, that's not a fact. Three, I never brought him up. Other people brought him up.

Back on topic.... I hope they come up with some good retailer exclusives. Maybe a leather sachtel like Indy's that holds the four movies... :bullwhip:

Hopeuflly they will do something like this or make an epic collectors edition including a replica of his fedora. I'd buy THAT for a dollar!.....or hundred.

If they do that... it would probably end up being a miniature fedora. Like those movie sets with the mini-masks.

Speaking of... it's a shame that the mini Crystal Skull was only available with the DVD version of KotCS at Best Buy. It was kewl.

That reminds me of what happened to me about 10 years ago on another forum. I started a totally innocent thread saying "Have you seen this?" with a link or embedded pic from the big news story at the time (9/11) and it was what other people were saying about it that got me banned from the forum. I offered no opinion on the story at all, but where others took the topic is what got me banned. Couldn't believe it. It was the image of a supposed "demon's head" in the smoke coming out of the WTC, and because others took it into a heated religious debate, the Mods banned me...imagine that...religion making it into a 9/11 thread days after the event?

We weren't supposed to really hate her - that was the point. She was playing a comic book villian and she was playing it largely tongue-in-cheek. I thought she was terrific and one of the only good things about the film.

Inconsistencies really kill a debate. Don't go to trial with those.

You're basically contending here that if a viewer accepts one shift in tone he must necessarily accept any and all shifts in tone and that seems a little silly.

Does the idea that a change can work in one context and fail in another really seem that outlandish?

No offense to the other Blu-ray Knights out thre, of course!

Whatever faults Temple of Doom has (and it has a few), at least it's a work of cinema. Last Crusade looks like a TV movie in comparison.

Couldn't disagree with you more. The movie looked splendid in cinemas when it was released, Spielberg is great at working the anamorphic screen ratio, as evidenced in the scenes such as the motorcycle chase, and others. Plus the great JW score adds quite a few beautiful variations and new themes to the Indy ouvre. For example, the scherzo that accompanies the aforementioned motorcycle chase, which was great to listen to in a huge auditorium with Dolby Digital and THX sound.

It is a great popcorn movie.

The Empire Strikes Back didn't deviate from the tone in any significant way from A New Hope. Outside of the down ending.

I disagree.

Tone is the overall mood or feeling of a film. That starts with the script and if everyone who works on the film does their job right (guided by the director, of course), that's something that should be maintained throughout the process, all the way to the final day the musical score is conducted.

And speaking of music, that has an enormous impact on a film's tone, even more so than image. The same exact imagery can be scored two completely different ways leading to two entirely different feelings in the viewer. One need only listen to Williams' musical scores to STAR WARS and EMPIRE to understand the sequel has an overall darker feeling and mood. Not just the ending.

But if you require further proof that EMPIRE is a darker film than STAR WARS, even George Lucas himself has acknowledged it. Go to 1:40 in the video below:

Not at all. But if that's the main argument — this movie sucks because the shift in tone changed it from the feel of the previous film — then the same should be said for Empire. I'm not saying you have to accept it or not in the real world, but if you're going to lay it out in black and white with no absolutes in between, then yes, the same should apply, if that's your belief.

That was before he said there was no darker shift in Empire, then there was a darker shift in Empire, and that tone doesn't have to be consistent throughout... even though he just said a shift in tone kills the series.

So that pretty much made my point regardless. Oh well.

In the spirit of this thread I watched KOTSC again today (since it's the only one ob blu) and I can confirm that yes, it does suck. :D

5th-beatle 03-07-2012 01:19 AM

Has a release date been confirmed yet?

cjones235 03-07-2012 01:19 AM

Fact

Indiana Jones and the temple of doom= Indy being a bad ass mother*beep*
Indiana jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull= Indy being a wimp, punk and a sissy and sidelined in he's own freaking movie

AlexSing 03-07-2012 01:25 AM

What has happened to this thread overnight?

It's turned into the Star Wars thread with Beast spamming the hell out of it (40 posts in 4 pages???) and now it turning into a pathetic Star-Wars-esque tit for tat battle

10 pages ago people like BluBonnet and rikah had totally different points of view to others on these movies, the plots and the characters but those points were politely debated, discussed and then people moved on to the next thing.

This has now just turned into the "Beast Show" with people biting on everything he says and him responding to every post in his typical manner.

Can we have a post limit imposed or at least TRY and keep this thread on topic and not let it descend into the pathetic virgin-fest farce that is the Star Wars thread?

And Beast, any chance of some self-control?

Many thanks
