Hey, welcome back. I am thinking you are right and we'll see something about Indy at comic con. Probably will be a everything announced all at once though (packaging and specs). I don't think they'll use the Star Wars model of releasing bits and pieces here and there. Paramount will probably think it is more cost effective to just give all the info in one shot. Just my guess though. I am hoping there are some deleted scenes in this set!

Depends who controls the majority of the info release. I'm guessing from past releases, it'll be Lucasfilm doing it.

Which means we may see a similar release pattern for information. But we'll see what happens.

I traded in my standard DVD set to Hastings, and didn't get squat. I'm not sure the exact amount, (I traded in multiple items) but with the set, three other 2-disc DVDs*, a single disc blu-ray of the Lovely Bones, and 5 cds I only got $32 in store credit.

Ouch. :blackeye:

If the deal was so bad why did you trade it in? You probably could of make more money selling your standard set on Ebay, since it's out of print now.

Cool. But this might be more relevant in the Brazil thread.

I know, but it might be an indication of the release date in the US as well... :)

No problem! ;)

LOL.. I also thought he meant the movie Brazil. Blu-ray releases there usually the same date as US.

And this thread now stickied yay!

RKSamuraiX 03-15-2012 01:21 AM

Oh man, I know I'm probably really really late to the party, but I didn't know about this until just now. This is awesome. I can't wait for it to come out.:D

Pretty sure that's a myth.

The final shooting draft written by Tom Stoppard does not have "Jewish" in that bit of dialogue. And it's highly unlikely Julian Glover would have either ad libbed it or been asked by Spielberg to add that word to the line. The reason is, the meaning is abundantly clear without the word "Jewish" and would be too "on the nose" with it in there. The reason Tom Stoppard was paid 1.1 million by Lucas to polish the script is because he writes fantastic dialogue filled with great subtext.

I think this is a case of manufactured memory. People understood the underlying meaning of the line when they saw it in the theater and when it came out on home video some wondered where the word "Jewish" went. But it was never there in the first place. Stoppard intended us to supply the word ourselves.

I can't say my memory is perfect, but I do seem to remember the word "Jewish" being there when I saw it theatrically. Obviously, there's no way to prove it either way unless someone can dig up an old print.

I don't think anyone has to even go that far. Not only is the word "Jewish" completely absent from Stoppard's draft (dated May 8, 1988 -- 3 days before principle photography began), but there doesn't appear to be enough time for Glover to have even uttered the two-syllable word. Not intelligibly, anyway.

I looked at the DVD, and at 29.97fps, there is only a 10 frame gap between the words "finest" and "families" as the Sultan walks in front of Donovan's face. That's 1/3 of a second! I honestly tried, but I couldn't say "Jewish" faster than about half a second :p -- and that's without brief gaps of silence before and after. Also, Julian Glover's speech pattern doesn't begin to slow down until after he says the word "families".

So, unless the contention is that Glover uttered the phrase "finestjewishfamilies", I think we can put this one to bed. ;)

What about this missing scene from Temple of Doom... when Indy and co. escape on Lao Che's plane from Shanghai, there's a scene in the novelization when the pilots are sneaking past a sleeping Indy right before they bail out. Right as they are about to step ober him, one of the chickens in the wooden cages lays an egg, the egg rolls off the crate, and Indy, still asleep, reaches out and catches the egg before it cracks on the ground. The pilots looks at each other, Indy continues snoring, and they bail.

I always recalled that scene being present when I saw it theatrically back in 1984, but it's probably just my imagination from reading it in the book and just thinking it was in the film. I seem to have a vivid memory of the shots though, and how the sequence was filmed... anyone else ever see this footage, maybe in theaters or in a longer TV edit?

Never seen that footage. Seems pointless. Maybe its a george lucas idea he insisted for the novelization...

Oh no I have breached the subject of George Meddling again...silly me :whip::rofl:
