Correct, Paramount will only be distributing the release. They have no reeal say in anything else. Lucasfilm controls the film, etc. I cannot think of the name, but the company that has handled some of Spileberg's releases (quite well too) did the restoration work on these - and they were aired on broadcasts and looked incredible.

I know these are from a different film studio than Star Wars but....What do you suppose the chances are we'll get 2 different releases? A 4-film set with all the bells and whistles and an Original Trilogy set minus some features. Just like we saw with the Star Wars releases.

I don't really care if it's the trilogy or 4-film set, I just want some HD special features. I already have the laughably awful Crystal Skull (blind buy), but I'd be so thrilled to have the original trilogy on Blu I'd even buy a set with that waste of celluloid on it.

Also, I don't blind buy anymore. :)

As a completist, I have to say that I could live with it being released only as a four movie set - the three Indiana Jones movies and the parody that was the final film. Overall it won't affect the price all that much. The extras are irrelevant to me, i just want the original three films presented in the best possible quality, and I think Speilberg's involvement may help ensure that.

Sheesh. You could try acting like it, then.

Lucas is a profiteering hack who couldn't direct his way out of a one-way tunnel. So there. :whip:

Hmmm, Pot...kettle....black I would imagine.
Episode 4 was a pretty good film, but that's just me.

I understand that you already bought it. Seriously. So did I, but it will have been FOUR years since they released the BD of that film. Do you really expect them to leave it out of an Indiana Jones set just because they released it FOUR years ago? I don't.

Lucas released Revenge of the Sith on DVD in fall of 2005. Three years later, they put out a Prequel DVD box set with that film and Eps. I and II. Would you have expected him to leave it out because he had just released it on DVD three years prior? I wouldn't.

Is your objection to its inclusion based on your dislike of the film or do you feel 4 years is too soon for a reissue? If it's based on dislike, that's not a reasonable argument against its inclusion. Either way, I believe there will be individual releases just like last time, so you have nothing to worry about, in my opinion. Like it or not, it's now part of the series.

As I said before, I have no problem at all placing my 2-disc digibook KotCS BD right next to whatever set is released in my media cabinet. Won't bother me in the least!

I'm the same way. I think it will be a four film set. If somehow it's a three, I'll just place the 4th film next to it. No big deal.

Yeah, I totally agree. If it's a four film set, I have no problem tossing both copies of KotCS I'll have in the trash. They can put a fedora on a pile of crap and call it Indiana Jones all they want, I'll just be thrilled to own the original trilogy in 1080p.

# of years is irrelevant. It would piss people off to force them to buy the same movie twice.

Again, irrelevant. All 3 movies were available individually.

If Breather agrees with me, and you agree with Breather...then Laws of Transtive Property suggest you agree with me...which is clearly not the case. I would never toss my KotCS limited digibook, and I don't think Breather would either...although I could be mistaken!

P@t_Mtl 02-11-2012 01:29 AM

A lot of people are going to be very upset then, it's going to be a set with all four movies, like it or not!

Heh, yes, just joking. :) I don't have the digibook either, just blind bought the standard edition a couple years ago.

It's not irrelevant. How many times have we seen complete sets released with films available individually? Quite often. Four years is a long time when it comes to home video releases. Why would they make an exception for Indiana Jones? You either buy the complete set or you buy them individually.

Yes, all three Star Wars prequels were available individually at that point in 2008 when the box set came out. Just like the Indy films were in 2008. They released a three film Indy DVD set with new features along with individual releases in spring of 2008. KOTCS was then released into theaters that summer of 2008. In October of 2008, they released KOTCS individually on Blu-ray and DVD, along with a four-film DVD set. There you go.

We'll likely get the same thing here. A choice of a complete set or individual releases, just like in 2008.

Nope, I'll be hanging onto mine too. :)

I was under the impression you were saying it would be a boxset of all 4 movies and nothing else.

Oh, I gotcha. No, I think we'll see a four film set along with individual releases. It's the idea of a trilogy boxset that some were discussing that I was arguing against.

Maggot 02-11-2012 02:18 AM

I didn't mind Crystal Skull, but to this day, I consider all the performances in that movie, including Speilberg's, to be phoned in. Right down to the story. It clearly wasn't up to snuff. Lucas must be partial to really bad actors in his older years, because Shia Labeouf and Hayden Christiansen are some of the worst actors I've seen to come around in a long time.

BStecke 02-11-2012 02:26 AM

I don't get why Spielberg loves Shia LaBeouf either, because he never plays a character as anybody other than Shia LaBeouf, and I don't find Shia LaBeouf interesting enough that that's cool. It's like Tom Cruise, to some degree he's always playing Tom Cruise. But Tom Cruise is a hell of a lot cooler and a hell of a lot more entertaining than Shia LaBeouf.

As far as the set goes . . . I don't care much anymore. All four, or just the original three, I'll buy it either way, despite owning Kingdom. I'm just hoping to see a lot of special features (something I usually don't give a rat's about) with some packaging that looks like somebody who actually likes the movies had some part in putting it together.

It's the same with me with regard to Jack Nicholson. It's like his whole career is just playing slightly, ever so slightly different incantations of himself. But, again like you said, some actors can get away with that and still be cool.
