[Show spoiler]How about in the beginning when the Ark is shown, briefly, in one of the smashed crates!
It was only seconds long, but was absolutely priceless, imho.

There was a rumor that, since we knew Area 51/the Raiders warehouse was going to be revisited, the Ark was going to come back into play again with the Russians.

Personally I think that would've been awesome, since you know Indy has always wondered what happened to it, and with the possibility of Marion coming back it could have brought the whole series back full circle.

Too bad we got neither.

You never know with Hollywood! Maybe that's why a BD release date hasn't been set yet...they are going to announce Indy 5 along with it! ;)

BStecke 03-02-2012 11:57 PM

I'm all for an Indy 5, despite my disappointment with KOtCS, but unfortunately I think they blew the Area 51 opportunity (even though that action sequence is one of the highlights of the movie). Although, who knows what's in there? If I were Indy I would be dying to go back there.

P@t_Mtl 03-03-2012 12:09 AM

I wonder if a 5th movie would really happen now? In four month Ford will be 70 years old and while he look's better than I do :D there is still no story or script and you have to wonder if maybe that ship as now sail?

I had thought with the wedding at the end of KotCS and Shia revealed as Indy's son, that you'd have Shia as more in the lead role and Ford would be like the Connery type father. I kind of cringe at the thought, but would be all for it to see another Indy movie.
Maybe in this one they could help stop the Cuban missile crisis! :D

A memorable historical event, to be sure, but I'm missing what that would have to do with archeology or pursuing mysterious artifacts?

It was total tongue-in-cheek. I'm just following history's actual timeline(according to the Indy movies), and that seemed like the next badguy for Indy to go after.

I agree with the one opinion that said Indy's charm was that he was kind of past his prime to be such a treasure hunter. So now in KOTCS he is just old, right in your face old man....as good and subtle theme as "past prime"? It is not.

I stand by my earlier statement that Spielberg intentionally made KOTCS worse than he could have, to in essence bury any chance of another with Harrison. Oh and he killed any chance of Mutt taking the reigns by making him a dumb greaser who does nothing except sword fight and tag along (he doesn't get better as an archeologist or anything) - plus the hat is ripped out of Shia's hand at the end. Sorry kid, you ain't got what it takes to be Indy.

Maybe just maybe it is setup for Mutt to be the new Indy saga in 20 years time when Shia looks at that "past prime" era as well. I wouldn't mind that! Shia will end up looking like the guy who Indy got his hat from in Last Crusade.
[Show spoiler]Idea for a Mutt film in 20 years.. Indiana Mutt: And the Afro of Justice <-- being that it would be set in 1970's. The iconic hat will rest on top of one hell of a Shia af

What I would mind is them trying to make another within 5 years.

Never brought KOTCS so regards blu- it's all new to me. However it would've been no loss if it had just been the trilogy.

Gotta say KOTCS is a bit of a nadir in comparison to the original trilogy apart from the gopher of course.

Alphamale87 03-03-2012 01:06 AM

I was fine with the series ending after Last Crusade, but to each their own to those who enjoyed KOTCS. A release is set for Fall 2012 with all 4 Indy films, but I'm waiting for the trilogy pack on BD. The first 3 are all I care to own.

Alphamale87 03-03-2012 01:10 AM

And if there's no release of the original trilogy pack, hopefully all the Indy films will be released individually.

Ummm...yeah.... that ship has sailed, docked, and been retired to museum duty.

If they insist on carrying it on then wouldnt Mutt be the main character with Ford maybe having a small role as the grizzled old dad? Even then.....meh.

BStecke 03-03-2012 01:22 AM

I'm not so ready to write it off yet. I doubt if Lucas does, in reality, finally have an idea for a story he'd just let it go. I could only hope that, in his semi-retirement, he gets Kasdan to come back to write a killer script to close the book on Indy.

People are waiting for a Trilogy set? I'm pretty sure now that it has 4 films it won't be marketed or packaged as a Trilogy again, will it?

I'll have to wait for individual releases. Already feel a bit lame about picking up the Jurassic Park boxset due to impatience but I will not do the same with this. I only really want Raiders, Last Crusade at a stretch...

Paramount isn't stupid - KoS has been largely trashed by critics and fans alike, by including the fourth flawed film, they know it's the only chance that they can include all four films.

That's it. Without the 4th one the MSRP would probably be $64.99 instead of $74.99.

Except some of us actually enjoyed KOTCS very, very much and would like to see it included in the set. So Paramount is not stupid precisely because they're giving us fans what we want, imho.

I'm very glad that they are releasing the whole collection with all the 4 movies.

Having said that, it wouldn't bother me if they also released the original Indy movies by themselves, at some point.

Surprisingly enough, it wasn't trashed by critics. It actually was reviewed pretty decently overall. It was the worst reviewed out of the four obviously, but it was still far from trashed.

It would be cheaper to only have the original three included of course, and would be more practical for the many people who already own the 4th, but it also makes sense to do the whole series (not just for extra money).

KOtCS actually didn't do too bad with critics. It's got a 77% on Rotten Tomatoes, which isn't too shabby. Obviously it's just a "passing" grade, but I certainly wouldn't say it was trashed.
