It's the same basic design as the 5-DVD thinpak set from 2008. And it does indeed look terrible.

Jack Burton 03-04-2012 02:04 PM

Wow that cover art is awful.

Blu Ian 03-04-2012 02:04 PM

That cover can't be real.

Blu-Benny 03-04-2012 02:11 PM

i sure hope that isn't the real cover. :cringe:

personally i'm hoping for a 5 disc set....1 case for each movie and 1 w/the extra content disc(s).

and i hope they keep the cover art from the 4 disc dvd set vs. the individual releases that were later released.

although this would be awesome as well!!

After having just watched Jamie Bennings' Raiding the Lost Ark documentary, I feel the producers of the bluray set should give this guy a big amount of cash to use his work as part of the special features on this set. It's only right, it's one of the best put together documentary Ive ever seen.

Thanks for the link! I've never watched that documentary.

Sure is.

FPO means "For Print Only." :)

Clearly someone didn't abide by that.
It's entirely possible it may change...but...

Blu-Benny 03-04-2012 02:24 PM

all i know is if the set comes w/some nasty cover art....i'll be paying a visit to the guys in the custom thread.

I'm guessing fake. The same image from the DVD set and the logo from the blu-ray press release smack in the center. Can anyone source this image?

2 hours long and extremely good.

The guy needs recognition. He's also done Star Wars, Empire and Return of the Jedi docs, and he's now working on a Jaws documentary.

It's watermarked with the website. Mubis. They're zonadvd. And they came out with the "announcement" before Paramount officially did. VERY reliable.

It's not official. And a studio could NEVER use his work. he uses too many sources and they would never pay to use all of them.

Well... here's hoping someone debunks or changes it, because that's downright lazy.

If it is official, I'd imagine it might be a placeholder. The set's at least six months out.

I don't know about Mubis, but when I google image search Zonadvd, I see a whole lot of unfamiliar and foreign language boxart.

That's because they're based in Spain but they have worldwide reach. See the Empire Of The Sun thread. They just posted the artwork for the book there.

It's entirely possible that it is a placeholder. However, I've been to press events where the artwork is in press materials and it DOESN'T change.

Thanks for sharing. I'm skeptical that the final product will look so half-assed... at least I sure hope it doesn't.

Lucasfilm and "good packaging" just don't mix. A prime example would be the Star Wars Saga BD set. Badly constructed (with its paperboard sleeves) AND its ridiculous color-pencil cover art wouldn't make the cut at "Art Instruction Schools" (as seen in infomercials!) even if their check cleared.

rickah88 03-04-2012 03:10 PM

While I'm not overly encouraged by that particular coverart, I'm more concerned about how the discs(and what's on them) perform...but that's just me!

I'd say Fox had a lot more to do with the packaging than LucasFilm considering the Alien Anthology has the exact same paperboard sleeve/book design as the Complete Saga.
