What pisses me off is that Sony is a big backer of UV digital copies ... AND YET I CANNOT WATCH THEM ON MY PS3! There isn't a Flixster app for PS3 or ANYTHING! It's so goddamn annoying.

I hit "respond" to jump down your throat about your incessant desire to question people's choices re: digital copies, but realized you're 100% right on this.

Taco, since all DCs come with BDs, why would you not just pop in your BD into your PS3 instead of settling for a lower quality DC?

Because you can use your PSN ID to sign in on ANY PS3. If there were a Flixster app (or even a way to stream from their website, which you can on PCs but not PS3s) I could view my UV digital copies from any PS3 without having a physical disc on me. One of my movie buddies has a PS3 as well, for example, and I could play Drive, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, or Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (all great movies) on a whim without bringing the discs in advance.

The same goes for Xbox 360, which my other movie buddy has (no Blu-Ray player) on his SD TV. I could access all of these movies on a whim if the game consoles had Flixster or ANYTHING from UV.

I just can't see how the company that touts "watch it anytime, anywhere" can't even make an app for the extremely popular video game system that happened to help Blu-Ray win the format war in the first place!

Just stick with your blurays dude. Seriously, you dont want to be watching that stuff on a nice tv

I also hate Ultraviolet. It takes 3 new accounts to watch one movie!

1. First you have to set up a Sony Pictures account.

2. Then set up AND "activate" your Ultraviolet account- making you select not only a separate sign-in name, but your password is pretty picky.

3. Then you have to create a Flixster account.

Why in God's name should it have to be that difficult? Who thought giving us an iTunes code was such a bad idea?

I tried downloading Dragon Tattoo tonight and got completely screwed up trying to redeem the code. I will say this though, the 1-800# on the Sony Pictures website was great. The agent was knowledgeable and helpful. And another bonus was that she was an English-speaking American!!!

for some reason i cant log into my sony entertainment account.. i have tried with 3 different accounts and it wont let me log in. i cant link my uv account and therefore i cant watch any of my sony titles..

I hate this UltraViolet digital copy stuff.

I just tried to redeem one ... because I figured maybe I'll check it out and see whats what.

Doesn't seem like I managed to figure it out.

I still hate the UV DCs .... I hate um.

Edit - I figured out how to get Tin Tin to work using the UV DC. Then I noticed my copy of the new Footloose claims to have a UV DC and it says "works with itunes" which I believe is not true.

Edit2 - I DID manage to get a proper itunes DC using the UV code.... I hope that wasn't an option for Tin Tin. :(

Edit 3 == Well,.. I managed to get a proper DC copy of Tintin anyway... I guess some of my UV DCs come with BOTH.

Best thing is do as I do and sell the digital down load code, be it itunes or uv-
Just scan the code and forward it to your customer by photobucket- People here queue up to buy these codes, nothing to post, payment by paypal or amazon gift card

I've always seen them as worthless so never wanted to sell them however, Digital Copies are really becoming a problem for me.

I have 99 in my itunes and it's about 200GB. And, I back it up regularly so figure 400GB on 2 different drives.

I never watch them because I would rather watch the blu.

I only figured that I own them so I ought to redeem them.

I do agree at this point selling them is the BEST plan.

I tried to setup my UV and managed to accidentally create 2 accounts with almost identical details. I have one account with Paramount and Sony and another with WB... Sux... I hate this stuff and I guess I needed to be just a little more careful when I was trying to jump though the hoops for it.

I heard from a Target employee that there was a big lawsuit against all of the movie studios regarding the iTunes digital copies and some sort of anti-trust bullshit. This sounded bogus to me, because you could say UV is the same thing.

But he said, other than Disney (who settled out of court), no other studios would support iTunes digital copies anymore for this reason - even companies like Universal who were supporting both.

Is this true? I hope not.

Ultra Violet is a joke. I have one movie that uses that format, the Under World Trilogy pack, it took me two hours to redeem my movie, first I had to go through the annoying sign up process and redeem my movie from UV, who then directed me to Sony's website which forced me to create ANOTHER account. After going through that entire BS process i tried to log in to my newly created sony account and no go.

To this day it never lets me log in, ever single time I try it makes me do the whole recover password, I use the same password every damn time! I am sick of it I finally downloaded my UV copies and decided to hell with it no more. I was ok with iTunes because I have an 160GB iPod video but this is BS. I decided to download a program I won't name here and rip my own digital copy from the blu ray disc itself from now on. I found a compromise for my laptop so I can do that and have a small file size for my laptop but keep it at 720p which is still better than the crap UV file I downloaded.


Another thing that pisses me off is says available in HD on the app but when I try and view it in HD it says nope and forces me to watch it in SD. I have a blu ray external drive and watch blu rays on the laptop all the time so I know it can handle HD video its a brand new laptop got it less than 3 months ago.



anyways why do I need to sign up for a Sony account when the purpose of UV was to simplify things? When it was iTunes you had 1 account your iTunes account, that was a hell of a lot simpler, despite all the expiration date hassles. I used to love digital copies when it was itunes or WMP but these I hate with a burning passion.

Just a bump, now that I just this week found out how to work the darn thing (I don't have a tablet or smartphone, so couldn't care less until now), but--

If you link up your PS3 Vudu-app account with UV/Flixster (yes, another darn separate-registration), and enter all your free UV codes, the movies should show up in your Vudu "My Movies" queue.
From there, you can stream (if you've got one darn good connection), or download as complete files, more or less for free. The point is that your movies are "somewhere", in the Clouds, if you want them.
I entered all my Warner codes (eg. Harry Potter 7.2), and got a free copy of Airplane II for linking up with Vudu, and remembered....all my Disney/Pixar movie codes were over at Disney's own fake-Ultraviolet site.

I was on a survey focus-group chat, which was asking how thrilling I thought the idea was of having Cloud movies vs. hard-disk ones or DC--I explained that the only time I'd ever used portable movies was traveling, and then a complete DC file for my iPod, because there's no Wi-Fi on an airline flight.
The interviewer asked "And why would you want to keep the hard disks, once you had your movies available whenever you want them?" I assume they had to ask that for their files, but it sounds like a question Warner and Sony are actually asking, with all the Neat Stuff at the moment, and don't quite understand the basic theory. It's just a momentary infatuation, they'll catch on soon enough.
With Wal-mart owning Vudu, they were also trying to promote the new gimmick of taking your non-coded DVD's to Wal-mart, to have them "upgraded" to digital Vudu/Flixster for an extra $2-$5, and asked what I thought about future customer promotions, like "Would I like to be able to upgrade my disks over an Internet connection directly from my PS3?" (instead of handing my disk over to some minimum-wage Wally employee). As the only choices were "Yes" and "No", I had to choose "Yes", as there was no "HELL YEAH! When do we get the app?? :hyper: :rock: "

Hmmm . . . I guess things have been simplified since UV started. I was bored the other night so decided to start tinkering with this service. In less than 10 mins. I had my accounts up and 8 movies in my account. However I highly doubt I'll ever use this I just wanted to check it out. I will ALWAYS PERFER physical media :rock:

Also the free copies you get with Warner and Sony are usually the SD copies, just to "have" the movies. If you want HD (which you probably don't on a ten-inch tablet), you get what you pay for, which in Vudu's case is about $19-24.99.
IOW, what you paid for the hard disk on your big set.

Disney's copycat, DisneyMoviesOnline seems to be designed only to be watched on desktops and their own mobile apps, but at least your movies are immediately entered the minute you enter the DMR code--
The movies with Digital Copy seem to be free with the code, the animateds are discounted to $5.99 after being registered (ah, so that's why the charge the extra five bucks for DC!) Can't tell, but think those are SD as well, which, let's face it, is what you're going to get for free streaming.

If you're an iTunes lover, than it's as good as dead.

With Ultraviolet, you need an account with Flixster. The two practically sync up. You get your code and redeem it for that movie. There is an even a desktop/mobile app for UV. I found it easy enough to use, but there's no point to it for me.
