Best Action movie? Hmm...I really wouldn't have considered this action, but I guess it makes sense.

I don't consider it one. It was marketed as one, but it's more of a crime thriller.

djgeneral 12-13-2011 07:57 PM

That was the closest thing it could have been nominated in, so they went with it.

Leonidas_King 12-13-2011 08:01 PM

Heres the back cover:

It appears to be Region A locked.

Looks like there are some decent special features. They all sound interesting.

The biggest loss is no commentary. I bet that will be on the re-release (if it happens)...maybe some deleted scenes?

and for all we know, the features included could be some pretty long/detailed ones. So I'm not really sure what else they could add.

But I agree with you, a sequel to Drive is the stupidest idea in the history of stupid ideas.

Ahh, there you run into murky waters. I don't believe Two Towers was better than Fellowship, but Return of the King was. However, chronologically Two Towers was Fellowship's direct sequel, not Return of the King, so I'm reluctant to count that. The Last Crusade might be considered on par with Raiders, but I discount it for the same reason. I’m not familiar enough with the Bourne series.

But agreed, Drive sequel almost surely=crap.

Edit: If you meant as a sequel to Two Towers, Return of the King was better I agree. I thought you meant both Two Towers and Return of the King were better than Fellowship.

I'd say it's way more of a drama than an action film, albeit, a very violent drama.

How about instead of a Drive sequel, more of a Dollars trilogy sort of thing, where The Driver's character is still used, just in different scenarios. Not sure how to explain it, it's too late lol

Sure, you can argue a case either way - personally I thought TT was better than FOTR, but I understand why someone might think the opposite. Bottom line, it's rare enough for a sequel to be as good as the original, much less a trilogy where all 3 are great movies. Lord of the Rings and the Bourne series definitely fall into that category.

Getting back to Drive, I'd hate to see a sequel that tarnishes the original - like IJ and the Crystal Skull did to the Raiders franchise

It's a nice, breezy one-to-two-days read. One thing: I came away from the book admiring Brooks' performance even more; he really nailed that character.

Very disappointed by the artwork :(.

SammyJankis 12-15-2011 03:19 AM

That artwork is god-awful.

Golden Globe noms released today...what a joke. Drive's only nomination was Albert Brooks in Best Supporting Actor. BOOOO

No nom for Best Picture even though Drive got better reviews than half the films chosen— Drive has 93% on rottentomatoes, equal to Hugo, better than The Help 75%, Ides of March 85%, and The Descendants 89%. War Horse was nom'd? The movie hasn't even been released yet.

Ryan Gosling gets a best actor nom for Ides of March AND Crazy, Stupid, Love??!! What the ****. Critics praised his performance in Drive. I could accept no nom, but to nom him for those other two and not Drive...that is insane.

Then I scrolled down to see best director noms, because they surely had to throw Refn a nom, right? Wrong. Even critics who didn't care for the film praised Refn direction and unique stlye, and he won best dir at Cannes.

Only one nom. Besides the fact they shit on Drive, most of the noms are pretty ridiculous. Ides of March got noms in EVERY major category; it was ok film no where near great. Year of Clooney...pure Hollywood bs. Golden Globes are officially meaningless.

Yes, the idea of patting each other on the back is silly, but you'd think they would at least try to get it right to appear legitimate.

The Golden Globes is more about the party/who's going to show up to the red carpet. That's it, even though it's pretty useful for marketing. Granted I'm still going to watch because I enjoy that thing...but I know what it's all about.

Drive has not been as prevalent on the critic's lists as I thought it would.

EDIT: Brooks did NOT receive a SAG nomination. Removed. *Still think he's good for the Oscars, though

Drive has not been as prevalent on the critic's lists as I thought it would, though Brooks did pick up the SAG nomination (the only real Oscar predictor - re: the most recent trends - thus far released). So the film will have that presence as the season fully commences.

He did not receive a SAG nomination, oddly enough.
