The Universal centennial is of Paramount importance.

hahahah epic

I love what Universal has brought us over our lives...but this is just to be a boring repackage? Not very enticing....? I have so many of these titles and if they were upgrades by way of special features or better video/audio, 4k masters..perhaps i'd double dip!

Just till the end of 2012 then they're going back to the classic logo ;)

Atreyu 12-30-2011 09:51 AM

I hope the release some older titles on blu such as their classic monsters and a couple of Abbott and Costellos as promised. Would love to see all the A & C comedies hit blu, but that, right now, is just a fantasy I'm sure.

Well, they've already announced several titles on BD for their 100th anniversary (see the OP); don't be surprised if more are coming.

I'm sure the Paramount centennial logo's there only because the cheapskates at Comcast & NBCUniversal--the same ones who ditched a perfectly decent NBCUni logo, combining a small NBC peacock with the "globe" arcs of Universal's print logo, for a boring line of text just because they wanted to ram "NBC" & "Universal" together--are too stupid to realize Universal needs a centennial logo. ;) (Edit: Besides, if the Universal logo is supposed to be Earth, isn't the Paramount logo on the same planet? :D )

Logo aside, of all the classic movies Universal as made over 100 years, that is the list they have to offer so far? I sure hope things will get better as 2012 goes on cause seriously that first list of release is rather sad.

Most of them are just the previously released discs with a "100 years" slipcover, which is a brilliant way to move unsold stock by catering to slip collectors and the uninformed public.

RebelPhoenix 12-30-2011 01:05 PM

Universal has been around for 100 years, releasing countless amounts of classic movies. And Waterworld is one of the first 16 they release to commemmorate.

Waterworld.

At the beginning of December, someone posted the 2012 release schedule on the Criterion forum and someone cross-posted the list to BR.com and someone else complained and it was moved to the wishlist subforum...

The thread can be found here.

Plenty of good stuff on that list.

nateynate87 12-30-2011 01:31 PM

Well re-releases with new slipcovers aside, they're starting things off with To Kill A Mockingbird and All Quiet On The Western Front

That's enough to get me excited for what else they might release this year.

I don't see a single similarity in the lists..... which is why the one you linked to (or the post you linked to that contained it) is being considered as speculation for "the internet"

Is there a source for this new "List" ?

Rumors of Harvey, some Abbott & Costello and Universal Monsters classic is also pretty interesting for me. Too bad The Birds seem to be only for DVD

*A Bronx Tale

more to come...

*= new to BD

The pre-order for Bronx Tale on Blu-ray has long since been removed from Amazon, and no longer shows up on Blu-Ray.com either. I really highly doubt that this will be released on 1/10/12 at this point.

Detroit Squirrel's list is mainly repackaging of existing discs. The speculative list is mainly about new releases, pretty spot on so far (I may post a report card later). I have no problem at all with it being called 'speculative' rather than, say '100%-guaranteed-insider-information', but it is definitely not a wishlist.

bookcase 12-30-2011 02:31 PM

If that speculative list is true, it means Universal will finally start releasing some of their HD DVDs on Blu.

nolfoc 12-30-2011 02:45 PM

A Bronx Tale is not coming out on the 10th.. I really wish it did, but sadly it has not been announced yet i believe this is the rerelease on DVD which makes no sense at all and a dumb move by Universal

Gremal 12-30-2011 04:41 PM

If no Bronx Tale, the list is utterly pathetic. Universal is old and senile and its catalog releases are a mess.

MykeHavoc 12-30-2011 04:45 PM

Ok, can someone fix the logo?
