Oh, thanks for clearing that up.

Sara is directly descended from Bill. Look it up.

I don't know what you mean by directly descended. IMDB says "Her father is very distantly related to actor Bill Paxton."

And according to Sara's wikipedia page:

Quote:

Her father, Steve, is of Irish, Scottish, and English descent, and is distantly related to actor Bill Paxton.

Here's a radio interview with Sara Paxton talking about The Innkeepers. Relates to this thread as well if one's interested.

From 16:00 she talks a bit about Bill Paxton. Can't get a better source than this:

My aunt is a genealogist and she traced back every member of our family and he’s in there. He’s a very, very distant relative.

So what did you guys think of the last scene?

[Show spoiler]I saw something

Thanks crs. By the ways, just a curiosity, thanks everyone for the info. :)

I'm definitely watching this on Thursday. Hope it's as fun as reviewer said.

jrsl76 04-16-2012 08:51 AM

I get personal opinion, but I totally disagree with the reviewer. This is a solid 4.5 stars, maybe higher. I thought it was great. Definitely one of my top 10 from last year.

wesslan 04-16-2012 09:23 AM

I can agree on reviewers 3. It had it's moments but much less scarier than I hoped.

I didn't really care for this at all. The atmosphere was about the only good thing lol

I think a kind of similar type film The Woman In Black was much better (and I didn't care for that one that much either)

but I thought this one was pretty close to horrible

Yeah, I have a problem with Ti West's films, they build such an awesome, creepy atmosphere but never really go anywhere with them.

I picked this up for $5 at Best Buy. It was reduced to $10 and then took advantage of their $5 off/DVD trade-in promo. I heard a lot about it from movie podcasts, I liked it, but did feel a little let down. I will watch it again soon.

I held off on watching it until the other day and loved it. The video quality is just ok, but there are some great spatial audio effects. The film itself was excellent, I love Ti West's way of basically capturing normal life for these characters and then introducing the abnormal to it, it gives one a better sense of relating to the phenomena. Much like with Jocelin Donahue in House of the Devil, Paxton's character was made out to be a sweet, cute girl next door type that you'd actually feel sympathy for, not enough protagonists have this three dimensionality and enough character where one would feel sympathy for them. When the scares started, they gradually built (love the "nightmare" scene where we first see Madeline O'Malley's ghost, the ghost was done up incredibly well), so when Paxton's character is roaming around alone, or the two main characters are in the basement investigating the tension builds very well. My only suggestion for West is that he work on his endings, they don't have the impact that a master horror filmmaker like John Carpenter creates with his endings where the tension extends beyond the film.

Just got this as a blind buy. $4.99 w/U&S so I figured what the hell I'll give it a shot. :ohnoes:

Contemplated watching this on Netflix Instant last night -- will definitely try to do so before Halloween.

Goldensuitcase 10-16-2012 08:19 PM

It's a good movie, but the ending in no way had the same tone/feel as the other 99% of the film.
I would have made it a more light-hearted ending. Had they gone that route this would be a purchase for me.

oberth127 10-16-2012 08:42 PM

Agree with a few here that the ending could have been better, it was the only downfall of an otherwise awesome film. I liked it enough though that I bought it after renting it out.

Not me. Loved how it ended. And glad to have it in my collection finally for $5 with U&S! :)
