I've seen some scenes from original Shutter and was bored as hell, but that's probably because of remake - I've found it boring and laughable.

I'm wondering if this will be a new transfer. I'm guessing they won't use the 10 year old transfer from the dtheatre.

OH man, Just read about this, so excited! For so long I've talked about how I didn't understand why this one wasn't on Blu Ray yet. Not the greatest movie, nor the greatest remake, but it's a lot of fun. I saw it in the theater with my wife when we were first dating. Good memories!

I actually disagree with that. If you think about it, how often are remakes any good or even surpass the original, which in this case it does! So I WOULD actually say it's one of the best remakes ;)

The only other remakes that I can think of that top this is Ocean's 11, The Thing(1982), Cape Fear & Scarface :)

littlestreakier 02-22-2012 07:25 PM

Maybe I'll get this, the first Ring scared the sh*t outta me lol. I thought the ring 2 was pretty good, I don't think it was as scary as the first, but if you think about the concept of the Ring 2...it's scary as sh*t.

Cat III 02-23-2012 12:27 AM

The best of the Asian horror remakes, a very weak compliment, but one I'm willing to give The Ring. I know people who were terrified of this movie, but it didn't phase me. I've discovered I'm not scared of little children or ghosts (or in a similar vein, demonic possession). Not a terrible movie, though, and the Bad Religion sticker visible in one scene is cool (directer Gore Verbinski is a friend of the band, I believe).

You forgot to mention Cronenberg's The Fly.

You're right, that is up there as well ;)

Someone posted that in Sept/Oct we will have this release available in a larger scale. Is this a common thing, to first release it with best buy and then the rest?

I know it just got a region A announcement for Japan, but I wouldn't think BB would have an interest in making that one an exclusive with the US version having done really well.

Weirder things have happened and just wanted to know for sure, before I give away my dvd.

So if "Ringu" is released in Japan as a Region A, does this mean it could play on U.S. DVD players?

joltman 02-23-2012 06:25 PM

It doesn't matter what region it is, it will not play on any DVD player ;)
But seriously, yes, a region A title from Japan will work in a US BD player.

tylerdurden10 02-23-2012 06:45 PM

Just a heads up, anyone looking to import Ringu from Japan, from what I read it doesn't appear to be English friendly (no dub or subtitles)

I can't find anyone selling this on ebay. Has a cover art pic been released yet?.

No, and I don't believe this one has been posted yet.

I'll get this one, but "The Ring 2" was terrible.

Some lines are almost cringeworthy. I knew someone that saw it, and they said it was not as good as the first, however I never watched it.

28BlusLater 02-23-2012 10:32 PM

I've been wanting this one to come out to Blu since I started buying Blu-rays! This is definitely the best PG-13 horror movie to come out in years. It's genuinely eerie and I remember being freaked out by both this and the original when they both were released respectively. I'll be buying this day 1!

I know this has nothing to do with The Ring or Ringu (which I will also be buying if it has English subtitles), has anybody heard anything about a Ju-On release anywhere?

RiffFan924 02-24-2012 05:17 AM

Man, just when I went and bought the DVD used for $3.....hmm, well MAYBE I'll grab it for less than $10 if it gets good reviews.

yukito 02-24-2012 07:29 AM

T__T Still crying that so far only America is getting a release. I too started my Blu-ray craze to see the day this title would come out. Hopefully the Paramount release will be region free.
(Just a side question, why is it Paramount releasing a DreamWorks title anyway?)

DreamsWorks is Paramount. Its under Viacom's branch which falls under Paramount.
