This thread is intended for members to share their custom picture settings for all PANASONIC model TV's.

To help make life easier for others...please try to include (but not limited to):

TV Model Number?
Weather it's an ISF Calibrated setting or Disc calibrated setting?
What Input Connection this setting is used for? (ex. HDMI, Component, Composite etc)
What device is connected? (dvd player, bluray player, cable tv ..etc)
What kind of room lighting you have? (dark, dim, bright etc)
Any key features that are turned on or that should be turned off?

*Please do not criticize settings being shared...it is a courtesy to those who cannot afford an ISF calibration or do not own a calibration dvd.

*Please also keep in mind that using someone else's settings may look good but it does not necessarily mean it will be ideal for your viewing pleasure and may require some tweaking.

*It is also NOT recommended for anyone to go into the Service Menu to make any adjustments.

black level Dark(this the most important video setting, when it is set to the factory default setting, the picture looks washed out and faded)

all video settings were calibrated by my eyeballs

First turn the black level from dark to 'light'.
Then turn your bightness down to say to 4-7.
Turn your color down to minus 1 or 2.
Keep your contrast around 18-21.
Turn down your sharpness down. keep it at a maximum of 12 but less is better. Most will say 0 but a little boost in sharpness isn't terrible on these sets IMO.


You didn't say if your in standard mode or not but you should be. Warm is preferred.

Please note: Every 42" 60U set is gonna be a "little" different but this should get you in the ball park.. right now your nowhere near the infield.

i was wondering if you actually own a 6 series panasonic plasma? I tried your settings and the image was a little too whitewashed for me. keep in mind, picture settings are a matter of personal preference. I think this thread was meant more for sharing your personal settings so others may try them, not to criticize others' personal preferences

Yes, I own both a 50" & 42" 60U.

If you like those settings that's fine. Some people like that vivid looking picture but I prefer a more natural and accurate looking one. I hope I didn't come off as a dick or anything. I just don't see how anyone could think that looks good.. the main problem being far too much color enhancement. Sorry

I was wondering if anyone can give me optimum picture settings for BD watching on a 42pz700u in a pitch black room.

Check the following link for the actual settings from an ISF calibration of a Panasonic TH-50PX60U plasma.

The same settings can be used for the Panasonic TH-42PX60U plasma also as they share the same circuitry. These settings will get you 85-95% of an actual ISF calibration on your own(grey scale is the one thing that you need an actual calibration on your particular model if you want 100% perfection).

This thread hasn't recieved many responses, maybe you should sticky this thread. I have a Panasonic Plasma as well(TH-50PZ77U) and it would be nice to see others people's settings. I've only had mine for about 2 weeks and I'm still playing with the settings. I don't have a calibration disc yet, I'm waiting for the Blu-ray version to come out.

My 50PZ77U is set as follows:

picture +15
brightness +7
color +3
tint -3
sharpness -3

color temp normal
color mng. off
video NR off
black level - Light (default)

I set the levels using the calibration screens available on Sony BDs. It can be a touch dark with some programming, but for the most part, it is lovely, especially when watching a BD.

I have all of the various base levels (Vivid, standard, cinema) set exactly the same way. I watch all DirecTV in standard mode. I can switch to vivid for the animated stuff and Cinema if I want to watch a BD in the dark.

I have a Panasonic pz750u. I'll post my settings when I get home later.

I also have a Panny TH-42PX60U and I came across this on the internet. I tried it out and it didn't seem to look that nice, in my opinion. So it just goes to show what others find appealing. I'm curious to hear about more settings everyone has though. I'm at work, so I'm writing down the others and going to try them out when I get home. I'll post mine later!:thumbsup:

It is my experience that the sharpness setting on these TVs requires very significant changes to be noticable to the eye.

In fact, most all of the significant change in PQ comes from the picture and brightness settings.

My settings are pretty close ot the ISF that is posted here, but I have found that I blow out quite a bit of detail in the lighter colors if I push the picture up over 20.

Lastly, I will say that you really need to decide on your reference material and set the picture using that and nothing else. The disparity in the quality of HD programming (we won't even speak of SD) is so vast that you will drive yourself crazy tweaking the picture if you don't decide to live with a "standard" setting.

I have a TH-58PZ700U that I self-calibrated using the THX Optimizer on the Indiana Jones DVD. I have the THX blue filter glasses. I noticed a significant reduction in eye strain after I did the calibration. Enjoy!

I recalibrated my TH-58PZ700U using Digital Video Essentials. I use one set for day and another for night.

For night viewing, I use:

Picture mode: Cinema
Picture: +9
Brightness: +12
Color: -1
Tint: +3

For day viewing, I use:

Picture: +10
Brightness: +10
Color: -3
Tint: +5

In both cases:

Sharpness: -30
Color temp: Warm
Color mgmt: Off
CATS: Off

Notes:

• Cinema mode allows you to get the most accurate color. Custom comes close enough that I use it as a convenience to switch easily between night and day viewing.
• I could not get the Picture (contrast) setting to "clip" any off-white swatches, even at +30. I set Picture at a level that affords low eye strain.
• Although DVE says to adjust for blue first, I found it easier to adjust for red/green first.

Well, as of this writing I am at 155 Hours of break-in, and I figured I'd share the settings that I'm using. One thing those of you unfamiliar with the 2008 Panasonics may or may not know is that the Picture adjustment scales from 0-100 for Picture (contrast), Brightness, Colour, and Sharpness. Tint, however, scales from (-)50-(+)50.

I'm using 2 different presets. The first preset is "Cinema" mode which are numbers that some guy named Tom calibrated over on AVSforum. Apparently, this guy is a professional ISF calibrator and I do like how the picture looks with his numbers when watching movies. The other preset I use is the "Game" mode, which I calibrated myself using the Sony Blu-Ray Easter Egg tools.

1) Cinema Mode
Picture: 60
Brightness: 52
Colour: 41
Tint: -2
Sharpness: 50
Colour Temp.: Warm
Colour Management, x.v.Colour, C.A.T.S., Video NR: Off
Black Level: Light
HD Size: 2

2) Game Mode

Panasonic TH-50PZ80U best settings...Help me!!
 

I haven't found any specific settings for this plasma, always find PZ85u or other models. i just got it setup yesterday and still doing the break in. just want some other people settings and opinions for after the break-in. i'm pretty new to plasmas so i'm not sure what all the color mgmt, x.y.color and stuff like that is, so feel free to clue me in that stuff please. i noticed everyone most of the time has all that stuff turned off in their settings....

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

No too much so far in our calibration thread at avs. Id recommend the DVE bluray. Most like my 85u settings and they are mostly DVE based.
