this is supposed to be the best "of the dead" film, right? I want to know which is the best one to buy since I'm not certain I'll get into it, though I badly want to.

Many will say that this is the best, yes. I'll go out on that limb and say that if you don't like 'Dawn', you probably won't like any of them.

One of the malls near me use to have one back in the 80's.But they got rid of it along time ago. Now you can find them in any pharmacy in the US.Walgreens,CVS,and even Wal*Mart has them. And unlike the ones that they use to have in malls you dont have to pay to use them.

Yeah -- only reason I said anything was soon after I watched 'Dawn' the first time, and this was about a decade ago or more, I intentionally went online to track down the mall and see if they had a website, and they did.

One of the things they touted on the site was a "see the blood pressure machine!" type of thing. They had kept it just for that purpose (so people could get their pictures taken with their arms stuck in that thing).

I should see if I can track it down again... :)

I loved the remake. Freddy

DutchBoy 05-28-2008 01:11 AM

Anyone who likes the remake (though I didn't), it's cool. Each to their own and all that...

But I just have to say that anyone is says the remake is better than the original is a damn fool. :p :D :ohnoes:

Yeah I would think The Monroeville Mall would still have the blood pressure machine from Dawn? Thinks to that movie they must get hundreds of horror fans visiting that mall everyear?

I agree, the first one was awesome. The remake was done well and is a good movie, but the first one is so much better.

The new Romero movie (Night of the living dead?? I forget name), is awesome as well.

I couldn't find anything when I went looking today. Found lots of photos and things from people who had made the trip (and even some of the machine) but they were from a few years back.

The mall has changed hands recently and was completely renovated, even the parking lot I think has been redone.

I did read that a lot of it is still recognizable, but most of the stores have changed (of course).

Still might be worth a trip one day if I'm ever up that way.

Yeah, that's kind of what I figured. They kept it there for the longest time, but I figured it had long since moseyed on... kind of sad. :p

I did order this on Blu (so thanks to the OP for cluing me in on it). The DVD I have is I think the first Anchor Bay release of it (Extended Cut - one half of the movie on each side of the disc), and I didn't realize it was so old and used up.

It'll be fun to see this again, and I decided to kick in my Amazon Prime at last so I should have it Thursday night.

He may like Day of The Dead. While I do agree that Dawn is Romero's masterpiece, the mean-spiritedness and groundbreaking make-up FX may play better for ppl who are turned off by the slow pace (translation: character development and building of dread), and cheesier effects of the original Dawn.

P.S.: If your thinking of seeing the"remake" of Day of The Dead, smash yourself in the testicles (or kneecap, if your of the female persuasion) w/ a five pound rock. Trust me, you'll enjoy it a hell sight more than that waste of celluloid.

Yeah, 'Day' has its moments. Again, just my opinion. The general consensus is that it was the best, so that was really what I was trying to say.

And yeah, I've made my feelings about the remake known somewhere up there ^^^ :D

I've had so many copies of this over the years, I'm sure Romero probably made enough to put a down payment on his house or something (maybe a riding lawnmower). The AB blu was my 4th disc purchase of this film (1st laserdisc, then the 2 sided extended cut you have, the 4 disc ultimate edition, and finally the blu). Anyone wanna start a pool on when AB releases a blu version of the ultimate edition?

BluStar88 05-28-2008 03:04 AM

I enjoyed it. it took itself a little too seriously at times but it was filled with great gore and anyone who likes zombie movies will enjoy a trip down memory lane or for some exposure to the early days of zombie movies.

only compaint is the make up was a little heavy so flesh tones on the zombies look a little unrealistic. but then what is a realisitic zombie to look like in the first place.

Great flick well worth $15

Vampyre 05-28-2008 05:39 AM

I have Dawn and Day of the dead on preorder from Amazon. I remember my dad taking me to these and other drive-in horror movies when I was a kid. Nothing like a little Zombie nostalgia now and then.

My father died of cancer three years ago, but I can still experience our love of wonderful movies like these and all of the great memories, popcorn on the seats and floor and the fun we used to have going to the drive-in together.

This ones for you pop. I sure miss having you around.

Sorry to hear about that dude.:( It's great you still have things to help you connect to his memory.

Back on topic. I would buy it for 15 bucks.

I always have wanted to go to that mall. I have even checked on my GPS unit how long of a drive for me to drive there. And if I was to drive there it would take me 12 hrs.Not sure if I would want to do that drive with the gas prices the way they are now?
I have been to The Mall of America before thoe. Now that is amazing mall. If I was a filmmaker and I wanted to do a Dawn of The Dead remake that would be where I would shoot it. I was thinking when i was walking around that mall how awsome it would of been if Dawn of The Dead was shot in The Mall of America.
