How Long to Post New Thread

When I attempt to post a new thread to the forum, a message says I cannot even though at the bottom of the forum, it says that I can. how long do I need to be a member before I can ask a question about my blu-ray player problem?

Get in a few posts and you should be able to start a new thread.

I also need to be activated. Despite the fact that when I log in, it says "You may post new threads", I can't. I can't seem to get a definite answer as to why. One person did say that they thought you had to have 5 or 10 postings, which would force me to just randomly post replies in various threads in order to meet this requirement. If this is the requirement, the site operator should make this clear during registration and in the confirmation process.

Can you tell me why this is not detailed in the registration and confirmation process? And doesn't this basically force a new user to just post things into threads they might not normally have an interest in or knowledge in? I'm not Blu-Ray expert, for sure, so I'm just forced to post some meaningless "this is just here to fulfill a requirement" posts. I'm sure you want to keep out the spammers and all that, but do you ever wonder how many people just don't want to deal with it and go elsewhere. If they have no idea why they can't post, the system is telling them they can, and then the moderators and webmaster aren't responding, I'm not sure people are going to hang out.

There're a couple of reasons why new members are initially restricted from starting threads. One is to curtail spammers. Second, the forum has a very comprehensive lists of topics and related answers that can usually be found by using the "search" option. Even, if the specific question you have has not been addressed previously, you can post your question in an existing thread. You should be able to start a thread very soon, and if there's something I can help you with...feel free to send me a private message. Meanwhile, I recommend a "Search". Under "Search" use "Advanced Search". Type your question in the "Keyword" box and select "Search Titles Only" from the drop down box.

I think its 10 posts, you are at 5......Hows the weather? :p

Actually I think you may be ok now, I have seen spammer post 3 posts then a thread.

That's all well and good, but the fact remains that the confirmation email states that you can post, when actually you can't. The site itself says that you can post new threads, also. And then when you try to post, it doesn't tell you that you can't until after you type in your post and try to submit, which can waste a fair amount of time if you have a longer post you're submitting. It's fine if you want to take these measures (a bit extreme in my experience), but you should tell this clearly to new users and if someone tries to start a new thread without rights, you should tell them before they type it in. At present, the forum is being very inconsiderate of people's time.
