Does anyone know if the 650 is backlit? I'm on their site now and don't see an indication.
While I'm at it, how bout the 700? Is that backlit? Thank you. |
I've been toying with the idea of getting an universal remote for sometime now. But for some reason, I never pull the trigger. I guess I've become content with how things work. I've gotten pretty good navigating my sea of remotes. Keep in mind, I know next to nothing about universal remotes.:o This week in Best Buys ad, they have the Harmony 1100 on sale for $299. That's a $100 bucks off. I see a lot of members use harmonies. Is this is a good deal? How about the remote? Is the 1100 a decent one? Or would you suggest a different universal remote? Thanks!
http://images.bestbuy.com:80/BestBuy...8908051_sb.jpg These are the remotes I use. I've stored the other ones. No sense in taking up valuable real estate. [Show spoiler] |

One remote to rule them all. You can compare the different remotes on their webpage. The 1100 is sweet!! big touch screen and all. The One is my second harmony and I couldn't live without it. |

The main differences I see are form factor & RF capabilities. The One & 900 have tactile buttons & a slender ergonomic design, while the 1100 uses touch screen for most of its buttons, seems more like a two handed/table top model & has a bigger screen. The One can't do RF control, while the 900 & 1100 can. The 900 comes packaged with one RF system, while you'd have to purchase this accessory separate with the 1100. Hope this helps. |

So, the main difference is wether or not I want to use one had to operate the remote or two hands? If I have all my components in line of sight of the Harmony, do I need any RF control? Also, I have a remote for my lights & blackout blinds too. Will any of the Harmonies be able to control these? Am I nitpicking?:dizzy: |

You might need RF control for the lights & blinds. I'm not sure, maybe the 900 or 1100. Your blackout blind remote appears to be an older version "Hunter Douglas PowerRise". The latest Hunter Douglas PowerRise remote has Two Methods of Operation: Radio Control( RF ) - No aiming necessary ( like a garage-door opener ) & Infrared Control( IR ) - Line-of-sight operation ( like a flashlight ). Hopefully your version has the same options. I entered it in the Harmony device compatibility search & it responded "It’s not in our device library—yet. However, if your device uses standard IR (infrared) signals for its remote control, most Harmony remotes can learn the commands from your old remote." Your lighting remote looks like it might be a Lutron. It may offer RF, IR or both. Your system is slightly more complex than most of ours( lighting & blinds ) and may require a different product for all-in-one control( maybe even professionals to program & install ). Other brands to look at would be: http://www.universalremote.com/ , http://www.rticorp.com/default.aspx , http://www.mynevo.com/index.php . |

Second, the 1100 does NOT include an RF to IR blaster which allows you to control components out of line of sight. That costs an extra $100. the 900 does include one. Also note that the RF to IR called the Harmony RF System is different from the cheaper IR Extender also offered by Logitech. I mention this b/c I almost made that mistake when I wanted to buy another RF system for my 900 (they look almost the same). The difference is the cheaper Extender can NOT accept RF signals (only IR). An additional benefit to the RF system is that you do not have to keep the remote pointed at your devices when you turn them on and off. When you select an activity, the Harmony remote also changes the input selection on your TV, AVR, etc. But it usually does this 1 or 2 (or more) sec after power up, so you have to keep pointing the remote at the components. If you move the remote out of line of sight, your TV may turn on, but it won't go to the correct input for your activity. One final note, neither the 900 nor the 1100 (or any of the Harmony line) can control any RF systems like blinds, lights, fans, etc. The RF on the 900 or 1100 can only control Logitech's RF System. Their RF System only receives RF signal from Logitech RF remotes like the 900 and 1100, and sends out IR signals only. It can not send out RF signals. For that you need something like the X10 products. |
Waboman I highly recommend the Harmony One. I hear the 1100 is nice, but I have no experience with it. I believe they are functionally the same. AFAIK the biggest difference is that the One has conventional push buttons with a small touch screen, but the 1100 is touch screen only. It would be practically impossible to use the 1100 by feel in a dark room if that is a concern for you. Whichever one you choose, you will wonder how you ever lived without it after a few days.
EDIT: Looks like Kali157 covered it pretty well. On a side note, I guess it's a sign of how far we've come that we're now frequently irritated by the fact that we have to aim the remote control at our systems for a few seconds in order for everything to power up/down properly. |

We have the Belkin Conserve Smart AV which provides power to the rest of the system a few seconds after the AVR has power (PS3, amp, sub, TV, Behringer EQ, TT, TT preamp, and powered USB hubs for PCs & PS3). So I programmed a delay w/ the remote to make sure the TV, etc are on before the input selection. If we shut our system off on a different activity, it takes our HT a good 5 seconds to set everything up to watch blus on the PS3. Without an RF remote, I (or anyone) would need to remember to keep the remote pointed for those 5 seconds. Also, Waboman, I would look at Ebay (if you haven't already) for which ever remote you choose. I got my 900 for around $170 shipping about a year ago. |
Harmony one user here and ill never use another standard out of the box with tv/blu-ray/home theater remote again! One button and your good to go

I purchased my first Harmony One in 2008. Prior to that, I was juggling 6 remotes :o . I loved the Harmony system so much, I purchased a second One for the living room. Simple, inexpensive & does what I need.

I like the tv station logos. If I have DirecTV how would that work? Will I still be able to search the menu and add shows for my DVR to record? What about scrolling the DirecTV guide and my list of shows? |

You will still have access to all your device menus( I use my Harmony One to access the menu of all my devices. ) Attachment 28542 I don't even keep batteries in my stock remotes anymore. :p Everything will work the same as it does with your stock remotes, except you are using a different remote. Your Denon pre-pro remote has universal remote capabilities. It can control simple functions( play, pause, stop, skip, fast forward, reverse, menu, etc... ) of your Blu-ray player, HD DVD player, SACD player & DVR. There should be remote codes in your pre-pro manual that would allow this. |
Greetings,
Does anybody know what up with a new firmware or software? I think the last update was back in Jun 2010. I would like to see more themes and maybe some sort of cool animation. |
