Actually, there were rumors a few years ago that Warner contacted Pink Floyd to work out a deal to include "Darkside of the Moon" as an audio track for a future DVD/Blu release. If true, PF's price was probably too high.

I think it's at the beginning after the third lion's roar, but I could be wrong.

PowellPressburger 06-10-2009 07:30 PM

It looks like the BD contains the DOC When the Lion Roars which was released on standard DVD not too long ago as a TWO disc release on DVD. I wonder if it will be the full doc. that was on DVD just on the BD? THE DVD prob had some extras though.

PP, as I wrote several pages back, I highly doubt it will be the full doc, since that runs 6 hours. I am betting it will be a few minutes excerpt talking about Wizard of Oz. WB did this once before with some film title where they announced "MGM: When the Lion Roars" would be on it, but it was only a clip to do with that particular title.

I sent an email to Bill Scott this morning asking him to check with his studio contacts.

Not true. What people thought was a kid was a cardboard stand-up of Ted Danson.

Thats what they "claim" there is no top hat on the one that was supposed to be the boy and the face looks nothing like Ted's...now it might be a prop but I would bet anything that its not the same prop!!

Thanks for the info. Glad to have some news about the release. I like all the extras being included. I heard people were looking for Dreamer of Oz, so that's cool.

Sounds like this will be the biggest catalog release this year. I'm definitely excited. I got a little tickled seeing how the extended Scarecrow dance got a hi-def treatment as well.

Will get this release and enjoy it. :D

Edit: I just saw that it's Judy Garland's birthday today. Huge coincedence.

It looks like this will be available in a 1-disc version on BD. According to the full press release that was posted at DVDTown. Here is the section specifically addressing what is on the 1-disc release:

-----------

So while that would be impressive for most any catalog title, a ton is still left out. I still plan to splurge on the big box since this is a favorite but I saw nothing but complaints about the big box and its price from posters responding to the news item posted this morning on the front page.

cartman781 06-11-2009 02:58 AM

Thank God, only having it available in an $80 edition is ridiculous.

JJJ225 06-11-2009 03:08 AM

I really don't like this movie but am a huge Judy Garland fan. If there's some great stuff that's got her prominently featured in the deluxe set, I'll pick it up. Otherwise, the single disc version will do just fine.

First off, the link: (not meant to be an insult)

Also, glad that people get a choice to go for the tricked out two-disc version or one-disc version (really, is any of us getting the DVD versions :D). My choice is the two-disc version, ever since I heard it was coming so long ago.

P@t_Mtl 06-11-2009 11:11 AM

I am getting the 2 discs version as well, I wish they had offer the same deal for Casablanca, I hate these ultra large boxes full of things I just don't care about.

dmarvin 06-11-2009 11:44 AM

My hope is that the release is packaged more closely like Woodstock than like the Casablanca set. The Casablanca set has the BD housed in a digipak. It looks like how you would see one of their DVD's packaged in a digipak. Woodstock has the big box and everything but inside the big box, the movie itself is housed in a standard BD case. So you can set it on the shelf with the rest of your movies and display the box elsewhere if you so choose. Not so for Casablanca unless you want it sticking out like a sore thumb.

DigitalfreakNYC 06-11-2009 12:23 PM

I'll be waiting for a different region to release a 2 disc version. That will be mine.

Russell_L 06-11-2009 04:18 PM

I've been trying to compare my current DVD 3-disc set (2005) with the new Blu set to see if I could safely get rid of it (the DVD set). It appears that all of the DVD's extra features are on the Blu set, though it's sometimes hard to tell. It does appear, however, that much of the extra paraphernalia included in the old DVD set is not in the new Blu set--stuff like 'Original 1939 Kodachrome Publicity Art' (very nice) and various reproductions and facsimiles of the original program, newsletters, periodicals, etc. Guess I'll have to wait and get the new set and see whether it's worth having both.
