I hope WB does a great job on the PQ. This is one collectors edition I will consider getting. Finally the mystery of the "hanging man" will be revealed in HD. Or is it really just a stork?

colormeandrew 01-11-2009 04:40 AM

Through countless YouTube videos I've watched zooming in on the footage, I really think it's just a bird.

unjichan 01-11-2009 10:54 AM

Hope it'll look gorgeous on Blu

I understand why some of these collector's editions are popular but I really just want a hi-def version of the film and don't need all of the fluff. Why is it that WB isn't putting out collector's editions AND standard editions for people like me? Is it that bad to actually just enjoy the film and not want an entire shelf taken up by some fluff box set????

Im with you. They need to stop with the giant box nonsense. Its not even just the storage nightmare, its the extra cost that gets shoved in your fanny.

UGH!

I can't wait to get this. This will be a first day (I hope) purchase. I can't wait to see how it looks in HD.

Randell 01-11-2009 02:53 PM

I can't wait for this. Like I said at HDD, I've gotten into the 'Wizard of Oz' this year. Started when I watched my UK import of 'Tin Man' which I have now watched 10-15 times and watched 'Wizard of Oz' which I have seen several times over the years.

The best though happened when I heard the soundtrack for ''Wicked" OMG, I fell in love! LOL. I just saw the musical Wednesday (It was great)

So this is all welcomed in my book. Hope it comes soon :D

Right here! :D

Hopefully this is released in a normal Blu case without all the fluff. If not here, then in the UK or somewhere I can import it.

I will definitely be getting this! I'm actually happy that they're putting it in a nice box set with decent packaging. They did a spectacular job on the last DVD release, so I hope the Blu-ray exceeds my expectations.

I believe this film was shot on 70mm so it should look really good!

Not shot in 70mm.

Yeah, it's just a bird and a myth.

The Guilty Party 01-12-2009 05:58 AM

While I dig the art that has been posted, my question is this: Will WB release a normal BD version of the film or will they screw us over by only offering some overpriced "collector's edition" that is full of fluff that I don't want?

Thanks to the miracle of Warner Ultra SD restoration (and the clarity of computer-assisted three-strip Technicolor re-synch), it's an African crowned crane, no less--
And that's just from the SD version...If it'll take Blu-ray to bury this one on sacred ground with cross and holy water, Long Live Blu-ray. :celebrate2:

Gosh that's amazing! This film is in 4:3 aspect ratio isn't it?

Everything in 1939 WAS.

(Don't expect Disney borders, though, as, like "Robin Hood" and "Casablanca", Warner will just be using said hi-def masters from four years ago, with as little added tweaking as necessary.)

tron3 01-12-2009 07:25 PM

You guys are slow pokes. Had this on my Amazon wish list since 8/4/08. :p
It is a 1939 film so the 70th anniversary release has to be in 2009. :)

It's funny how when I was a kid we watched it EVERY Thanksgiving. In later years we started to lose interest, and it even stopped airing. My brother has the DVD. But now I can't wait to see what they do with it on blu-ray.

Don't let George Lucas near it. He'll replace all the SFX with CGI.

It didn't "stop airing", it was bought out by Ted Turner, to be shown every year on his own private cable playgrounds, just like "Gone With the Wind".
Thus raising an entire generation of kids who've never SEEN Oz on TV, families now forced to watch it on disk any time they want, and raising the parent question of "Just WHEN to start kids on Oz? :baby: "

(See earlier Marx Bros. question.)

Wizard of Oz in December

I was looking for the three disc Wall-E (my sister likes digital copies, and it was hard to find). I looked at FYE and didnt' find it. I turned around and saw a place-holder box to promote a release. It had a picture of the Wizard of Oz set and it said its coming out in December. Don't know the exact day, but at least we can narrow it down to 31 days.

Off-topic: I found the 3 disc Wall-E at Circuit City.

Darth Anakin 03-01-2009 09:26 PM

Thanks, knew it had to be sometime this year since they're looking at a 70th anniversary release and it's been around since 1939.

Sussudio 03-01-2009 09:40 PM

sigh...such a long ways away :(
