My 2.37 anamorphic 7.1 setup.
This is my multi purpose family room/theater. I would like to build a dedicated room, but finances at the moment have kept me from doing it. All of the movie posters are originals. No reprints. I started buying posters to decorate the room and it became a hobby.

The Force is strong with your equipment :D
Love the Bond posters too and that Thunderball poster with Sean Connery in his underwear cracked me up  |
Its actually a wet suit, but to each his own.:D
Where do you live? Obviously you are a Hog fan. That loss yesterday was painful. I live in Fort Smith. |
One of my favorites on the site!

I did some research and for the price, I couldn't get even close to the perfomance of the speaker setup I have now. I think I paid around $5000 for the entire setup. I have tried Nordost Blue Heaven speaker cables and some custom made Silver cables from Signal Cable. I ended up using the Analysis Plus Solo Crystal, bi-wired on the front three. My system images extremely well. Eventually, I would like to have a dedicated room with an acoustically transparent screen to place the speakers behind the image. If and when that happens, I will pick up another Studio Reference 100 for the center. Thanks |
hi looking at replacing my old Home Theater in a Box with a nice new Component System is it worth going 7.1 and what kinda watts should i get for the amp i was looking at an onkyo 7.1 that was 105watts per channel and what are some good name brand speakers and subs to look at i dont need a $20,000 system but i want it to rock my house any help would great

I would first decide on how much you would like to spend. Then you need to decide on how much of that budget you are going to allocate for speakers and how much on processing/amplification. Don't throw out the option of just going with a good receiver such as the Onykyo line. They seem to value prices and have good power and great features (bitstream decoding of HD audio codecs, audyssey room correction). 105w per channel for a very efficient speaker is plenty of power. Again, depending on the size of your room. As far as speakers, there are to many good ones to discuss just one brand. Don't rule out looking at used (audiogon.com is a good place). Also check out the "deals" forum on this site. I have seen some great deals on speakers posted there. I would try to go as full range as possible on your front soundstage. Don't forget to save some room for a sub woofer. Don't rule out the idea of taking some of your existing HTib speakers and using them for your sides and surrounds. You could save some money there that would be nice to use on your other speakers. Again, like I said earlier, there are so many determining factors it is hard to discuss all of them in one post. Take your time. Do some research and have fun. |

Just my opinion. No sense spending the extra cash on speakers when you may not benefit from them. Do you have a drawing with dimensions of your room. BTW, you may want to start a new thread so this one doesn't get hi-jacked. :) |
Hi-jack away. That is what forums are here for.

I won't mention the game I've put that out of my head ;) |
Yeah, I noticed that Oklahoma beat Texas last night. They are both over rated.
I still can't believe that we are not in the top 25. We annihilated Oklahoma and played horribly against Texas and still won. |
I added screenshots to my gallery.

Are those wrinkles to the bottom-right of your screen? :ohnoes: Would be a shame for such a nice setup!
Otherwise love it - I'd love to upgrade my Paradigms, but it's a tough case to make to the wife when my wee Titans sound as decent as they do... Oh, and the giant french Bond poster? Color me jealous! |

I will be going to a fixed 2.35 setup this year at some time. Trying to find a deal on an Isco/schneider 1.33 lens. |
Well, after having a little conversation with my wife yesterday, I am getting "permission" to do some remodeling to our home theater room.
New paint. New trim. 2.35 screen and anamorphic lens. It will take some time to get finished. We have some other things on our plate at the moment, but it will get done this year!!!! |
I just purchased a used ISCO II anamorphic lens! I am very excited! I got it for a really good price to boot. So the transformation will begin soon. Can't wait.

Very nice gear phansson! The Star Wars props and posters are an excellent touch too.
|
Thanks Louie. What can I say, I am a Star Wars fan. Been one since 1976. The movie posters are something that brings back a lot of good memories of when I was a youngster.
Hopefully I can do some other minor changes this year. I am really looking forward to going to a CIH setup. That was my goal this year and it appears it will happen. |
Very nice in deed. Loving your sci-fi fetish :]
|
Loving the retro movie posters.
The closet to display case conversion is a pretty awesome idea as well. |

The movie posters are just something that I have wanted to own for quite some time. I started with just a couple to decorate with and now I have a pretty nice collection of all original issue posters. If you think home theater is expensive, posters can range from $1 up to $1 million if you like original issue Universal horror one sheets. It is a CRAZY hobby. The Stormtrooper suit was my costume for Halloween in 2006. My son was Darth Vader and I was his "guard". Of course I went overboard, but I have wanted a stormtrooper costume since 1976. So again, it was a nostalgia thing. I did purchase it with the thought of putting it on a mannequin in my theater room. At least that is how I justified the cost. |

It's pretty cool when one of my girls (8,13,14) comes up to me and says, "Hey dad! Lets watch Sith or Empire, Jedi or Clones. The Clone Wars on Friday night is a family event. Good "geek out" time. ;) |
Look what I just opened. I picked up this ISCO II with mount (it appears to be an old one) for a great price last week. I received it this morning. So the theater is going to go scope in the near future!

:itsnice: Congrats!
Did you shoot those pics in a golf shop or something? :p We'll all look forward to seeing it mounted and in action! |

That is how I make my living. I own a retail golf shop and driving range.:D |
Ok, finally received all of the parts for my new mount and after some modifications to the ISCO II stand, we are installed!
First order of business was getting a new projector mount. My old draper was only rated for 24 pounds. Of which the projector weighed about 23. So adding the ISCO II lens (about an additional 6 pounds) was out of the question. So I upgraded to a Chief mount. Originally I had planned on using the old Draper mount to hold the anamorphic lens, but after doing some research, I decided to modify the ISCO mounting rods to fit into the Panamorph chief mount. Here is how I did it and finished product. |
This is the ISCO II mounting rod. Which is solid steel (stainless I think). This will not fit in the groove of the panamorph mount.

|
A customer of mine has a machine shop. He machined a groove and also bolt holes in the solid rod.

Groove fits nicely in the Panamorph bracket now.

|
ISCO II is up and running. I need to tweak it a little bit. But the install was actually pretty easy.

Very nice result! I like how the mounting rods were machined to mate with the Chief Panamorph mount.
I just put my sled/lens back up a couple of days ago. Pics/impressions are in my thread... |

I couldn't find an application that really fit what I wanted. I plan on leaving my lens in place without a slide. The machined parts turned out great. I still do not have it tweaked perfectly. I will wait on that hurdle until I get a new screen. Unfortunately, I have to have an electric screen. I would prefer to do a curved screen (like yours) with masking, but I don't think I my wife is going to let me. Your install looks great. Are you happy with the results? Of course after you get your new Sim projector, you will have two new toys. |
