Dam you blu-Ray forum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :mad::mad::mad:

The Oppo 93 is supposed to be 3D ready. So I have sold my 83 to another member on this forum and will be getting the 93 as soon as it is available.

The JVC does look promising, the problem is that I am running an anamorphic setup and I believe that the JVC will not "stretch" a 3D signal (supposedly it doesn't have enough horsepower to stretch two 1080p images). That is a rumor at the moment, so I am hanging on waiting to here workarounds or confirmation of the issue.

This forum will all ways cost you more money!

Having a wife that is understanding with our "addiction" is nice. I am lucky, my wifes favorite movies are Alien, Aliens and the Bourne movies. So it isn't hard for me to sit down and watch a movie with her.

My wife likes "Suspense Action" flicks like Bourne, The Italian job, etc...I like them too, but I much more prefer fantasy and sci-fi because these blus seem to offer some of the best PQ and AQ out there, plus I love time pieces, whether it be history or in the future.

What kind of ideas do you have for your room?

I have a framed Raiders of the Lost Ark and Star Wars (style A) poster that I'd like to hang in the HT (living room), also a Goodfellas, Alien and E.T. that are in tubes. May have to stick with painted designs like Star Wars. She has never been keen on the idea of posters in the living room, but your gallery has changed her mind. I want to put some lights on the wall, get rid of ceiling lights and mount projector and maybe some wainscoting around the room.

That sounds great Travis, my only suggestion is try to push for a darker color. My wife wasn't excited to paint the ceiling black (she was ok with the darker trim color) but our interior decorator talked her into it. It made a big difference on the picture quality in the room. Darker is better....

Good luck, the dedicated HT is a tough sell to most women. I just pushed that the kids would like it and it was the only room in the house that I wanted a little control over.

What version of the Alien and E.T. posters do you have?

Hey Bill,

What are in the cards for you this weekend? Is your Alien box set in yet? Mine should be in today, but I doubt I will have time to watch it soon. I have a golf tournament Saturday and Sunday with parties each night.

Aliens won't be in until next week but I got a slew of BR's at BB yesterday:D
Watched From Paris With Love last night, got Kick Ass, 3:10 to Yuma, Gamer and TS3:rock:
Golfing/parties sounds great, winter on the way and you've got to take advantage of any decent weather:)

Kick Ass was great!, The AQ was a definite improvment over the SD version.
the PQ was great too, I'm glad I waited until I got the BR to watch it again:rock:

Good morning everyone!

I watched Alien last night and have to tell you it looks amazing! Black level and detail are just incredible for a 30 year old movie. The soundtrack is also incredible, lots of enveloping sound effects coming from the rear and sides. Not "in your face" sound, but slight echo effects that make you "feel" like you are in the Nostromo with the crew.

I can't wait to dig into the special features.

I also did a little tweaking on my anamorphic lens and the Marantz AV7005, so things are all good in the old Hansson theater at the moment.

Hey Chris, how are you buddy?

I know yesterday was a hard day for you. We still haven't picked up another dog since our two were put down last year. We will find another one, we are just taking our time.

I will try to watch Aliens tonight or maybe some of the special features for Alien.

Alien Resurrection wasn't my favorite, but I will watch this weekend. How old is your son again? I don't think I will be watching that with my 7 year old anytime soon.....

I did watch the directors cut of Alien3 last night and it is just a great movie now. The reverb of voices comes from all the speakers just sounds so realistic. The music is incredible and the black level of the movie held up on my setup. Especially for such a dark movie.

Have you watched any of the extras yet? I started to last night, but I decided to watch the 3rd installment.

Good Morning Bill,

How was the Alien Anthology? I ended up watching Alien Resurrection last night. Overall, again, the audio was really good, but the black level and detail didn't hold up to Alien or Alien3. I have been waiting to watch Aliens, but that might go down tonight.

So far the box set is incredible, I haven't even started to dig into the extras. That might take some time!

Patrick, let me know what you think of ALIENS. I've watched just the 1st two & really think that one is Much Clearer/detailed (I know; redundant :p) than ALIEN, which Does look good, just not AS good as Aliens (just my opinion). All I have left is the last 2, then either jump into the BTTF Trilogy or Toy Story 3, though AVATAR (3-disc Ext. Coll. Edition) is due in tomorrow, so I'll prob. pop in that version (16 extra minutes) Wednesday.

Also, does it matter if a blu-ray is region locked when it comes to the OPPO-83? The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Just $30 at Amazon.uk) says Region B (Locked), but what do you know of this? (see This post)

Also, does This have anything to do with the above? Not that I want to do anything like modding the 83'.

Son & I watch Alien Resurrection on Friday evening, I agree with your assement on AQ vs. PQ, the SD version wasn't that bad in the PQ IMO, so it would have to improve immensly. The AQ 's

Hey Aero, I still haven't watched Aliens yet. I have been into "top gear" lately and have about 20 of them on my DVR. So last night I watched two of those.

I doubt that Aliens will dissapoint. I might watch it tonight, but I am getting in Scott pilgrim and Avatar extended edition today. So it is highly possible one of those might find their way into the Blu Ray player......

The Oppo does have a couple of hardware mods that make it region free. I don't think it is very expensive, but it "might" (don't know for sure) void the warranty. So I never felt the need to go that route.

Hey Bill,

I have to agree that the PQ is better than SD DVD (of course) but the AQ is just an incredible upgrade. The echos, voices and water drops just sound like you are in the room with the action. Just amazing.

I don't know if it is the new mix on the Blu Ray versions or the AV7005 revealing those side and rear channels better than my 9.8 did. Whatever is happening, me likey......:D

Hey Travis,

The AV7005 is working out pretty darn good. I have noticed the side and rear speakers in my setup more in the past two weeks than in the past two years. I don't know what the difference is. My Integra 9.8 had Audyssey but (as you probaby know) the AV7005 has Audyssey XT, Dynamic EQ and Dynamic volume. So I don't know what is making the room sound so different, but it is a HUGE difference and so far I am very happy.

There are some things that I don't like....

The remote sucks.
I would like to be able to setup surround sound modes better.
I would like to be able to turn off that "blue ring" ( I can't find out how to do it).

Google "turn off blue ring Marantz 7005" and you'll see a link to AVS as the first "hit." I think it is mentioned in one particular thread there. I am at work and AVS is blocked, but the Google desciption is just enough for me to believe this may be the info you are looking for Patrick.

I will check into it some more, it isn't a huge distraction, but I like having everything on my stage "black". I even disconnected all of the lights on my Parasound Halo amps and used electricians tape on one of my power conditioners to get rid of the lights. A theater is dark right?????

How are you today Fors*?

I'm good buddy. I know what you mean, I have turned off the blue ring on the front of my DirecTv DVR, and there are other lights I dim as well when watching a movie. I never thought it to be that annoying until I got all this gear, now I notice little things like that all the time.

Hey Patrick. Aliens will NOT disappoint, trust me. Tremendous PQ & AQ really kicks a$$ as well.

My 3-disc Ext. Edition of AVATAR also came in today. I'll try to get to it tomorrow but will have to wait.
[Show spoiler]I was sleeping in today & heard my front door open a bit after 10am. It was UPS dropping off Extended 3-disc set. Not a big fan of the slide-out disc holder with the little flap, but if you're careful with the discs, that shouldn't be a HUGE issue to be honest. It's not the best design sure, but what can you do (aside of course, from buying a 3-disc Amaray case - but then you'd have to print out cover art & hope you get it right from what you have here; & that's not an easy feat IMO). Anyway, the Case coming out of the outside container IS a pretty tight fit to get to the discs. Very glossy package also. I'll get to the Extended Edition hopefully tomorrow (having an Electrician come to update some things in the basement Weds. a.m.)

Thanks for the info on the OPPO-83, I'll keep it as is. From Norco's post(s), I thought they played ANY disc, no matter what the Region, as is.

John - how'd you turn off that Blue Light? I have the same one (HD, glossy black, HR22 Model I think). Not a Major thing with me as it's low enough in my rack that I don't Really notice it; but I might want to Dim it on occasion(s). Thanks.
