stopped and picked up some tape and more screws this morning. will hopefully get the rest of the screws put in before the weekend.....i only had enough to do the tops and bottoms yesterday.
ok, opinion time guys. it kept me up for the better part of the night.....if u look @ the pic w/the window, there's only about 2-3" of space between the top of the window and the joist above it. i planned on putting a suspended ceiling in.....the ceiling needs 4" of clearance. :duh: so a suspended ceiling is gonna drop below the top of the window.....so that may be out....unless there's a way i can do it and have it flush w/the joist. i have to check on that. so i have to decide if i want to drywall that side of the basement (much cheaper than a suspended ceiling) or get some kind of decorative wood paneling. the only reason i wanted a suspended ceiling was so i can access any pipes or electrical wiring if need be. any opinions/suggestions??? |
I might have missed it, but are you doing soffits for the ceiling?

i planned on putting in the 2'x2' framing and then the styrofoam (or whatever they are) panels in each opening. but to get the panels in and out, u need 4" of clearance from what i'm told. |
I believe what Beta is talking about is doing something like this
http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...lingoption.jpg So you create a valence around the window...do the suspended ceiling...then sheet rock around the window opening. btw...I would say "good job" on the pics, but I'll have to wait till I can view them at home :( |

i may put on a good show like i know what i'm doing, but i'm pretty much winging it. :o i promise i'll put together some pix in my HT Gallery one of these days w/my progress. i've still got all of the pix on the memory card. Quote:
i figure if i drywall it, i could save myself close to $300. i still plan on putting a suspended ceiling on the HT side though, that is where all of the plumbing for the toilets, bathroom sinks, and showers are. not to mention the piping for the faucet outside. |

All the plumbing right about the HT?? Fingers crossed you NEVER have a problem with a leak or over-flow  |

the bathtub on the main level will be above the rear speakers but those are the only ones that will be near any water pipes. the HT equipment are gonna be below my son's room. hope he doesn't mind noise some nights. :D |

[Show spoiler] I was winging it to man...so no worries. I'll share something that helped me out alot. Great information in the book, good photos as well. I believe that is the first place I saw a nice window valence built with sheetrock and a drop ceiling for the basement. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...SH20_OU01_.jpg |

i'll see if barnes & noble has it and then i'll go check it out. my dad & uncles are all very good w/this stuff so i have people @ my disposal, but it may not be a bad thing to have around. wheni was framing everything, i had 4 packets w/the different situations for framing a door, framing a window, framing a stand alone wall, and framing a wall next to another wall. :o |

I thought Beta was talking about soffits around the HVAC ducts. Are you planning on the drop ceiling to hide them, too?

i was planning on framing around the duct work and drywalling it. i'm leaning towards drywalling that whole side.
i'll take some pix of both sides so you guys can see what i have to work with. |

don't worry guys, it's a goofy pic.....but the tv is straight. :relief:
