Lookin' good though.

My concern are the ducts vibrating/rattling and adding un-wanted sound. Since you've got access to them, I'd recommend some kind of de-rattler :o

First thing that comes to mind is Dynamat.

eD sells some that's either painted on or in a roll, like the Dynamat.

You could even use truck-bed spray in liner (in the self apply can, not the industrial manner ;)) even though that's not exactly what it's for....but anything to make the ducts have a bit more mass....makes them tougher to rattle.

As for your wiring...do I dry-wall or drop-ceiling....Uh...???....:shrug2: Whatever is going to look best, but servicing should be taken into account too.

Blu-Benny 12-14-2010 06:42 PM

Well the drywall side, the only wiring that will be drywalled in is the electrical wire for the lights in the basement.

The drop ceiling is going to go in where water pipes & what not are.

I’m gonna stop @ Menards on my way home and see what they have for decorative wood paneling for the I-Beam.

Beta Man 12-14-2010 06:44 PM

How about making a decorative wood piece, trimmed out etc. how you want it, and have one side of it open with hinges for access.

well, the wires run the whole length, i guess i could fix the whole thing except on the ends.

the one end had a metal box (i forget the technical term) where i have 2 wires tied together w/wire nuts. and the power for the HT is in that box. :ohnoes:

i'll have to see what they have @ menards after work 2nite.

I was gonna suggest a horizontal cabinet door at each end, like an overhead compartment on a plane.

well i stopped and got all of the drywall to do the ceiling on the one side of the basement last night.

figuring in lumber, screws, nails, and drywall, that side costed me about $100 to do the ceiling.

i also stopped and got a new quote on a suspended ceiling for the HT side.

my original quote for both sides w/tiles was $750-$800. new quote w/tiles......$150!!!!!! :jawdrop: :panic: :happytears:   :faint:

the tiles are on sale through the end of the weekend, i'm not sure about the frame work. so i'll be stopping and picking up the tiles 2morrow and storing them since they are $1 off each right now.

i was hoping to start working on the ceiling this weekend but don't know if that's gonna happen anymore or not. i still have to reposition all of the lights and run the wiring through the rafters.

i may get all of that done and start drywalling the stuff around the ductwork.....we'll see.

Hellz yeah!!!! The other side costed me about $100. so w/the $150, I’ll have $700ish left for the floor!!!

i s/b able to finish it all off now!!!

Blu-Benny 12-17-2010 02:03 PM

well i've figured out what i'm gonna do for the i-beam......i'm gonna pick up those strips of wood that people use when they decorate the lower half of their walls.

i stopped @ menards this morning and was looking around for ideas and found that section.

they come in 8' pieces and have 5-6 pieces in a pack for $40.

so 2 packs and i s/b able to cover the whole thing.

i'm stopping back on my way home from work to pick up the ceiling and may buy a pack of that stuff and test it out this weekend.

pros/cons???

i'm gonna frame it out w/2x4's and just tack it on.

Blu-Benny 12-19-2010 02:03 AM

well it took me about 2 hours of figuring and measuring but i figured out my I-beam problem!!!

will post pix 2morrow, i've got to do some work w/the wiring for the lights 1st.

Blu-Benny 12-20-2010 04:12 AM

here's what i got done this weekend:

left side of the I-beam:
http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/2139/img2769l.jpg

right side of the I-beam, had to keep this one higher up so i wouldn't run into problems w/the door @ the far end:
http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/4759/img2770b.jpg

this is what i'm going to put on the I-beam all the way across and on the bottom side:

Blu-Benny 12-20-2010 04:14 AM

here's what my wire boxes all look like:

http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/1808/img2768z.jpg

i have to move these up into the rafters so i can hang the drywall.

took longer than i was hoping, i didn't mark what was wired together and took some trial and error to get it back the way it was. :o

will post an after pic 2morrow night.

Blu-Benny 12-21-2010 02:33 AM

a little nicer i'd say. :D

very nice...... I have so much old wiring in my house (although it's all been inspected, and approved) I think it's about as safe as barbed wire connected to jumper-cables :ohnoes:

:lolcry:

i would love to remove all of the old crap and run new 12-2 for everything. almost every outlet on the main level is w/o a ground. :bitenails:

maybe one day when i'm feeling ambitious and have money to burn i'll replace everything. :D
