To answer your PM..........
Here is the Green Glue: http://www.greengluecompany.com/ Basically, you hang drywall as normal..... then you cover the back of another sheet with this stuff, and paste it over the other layer, and what you get is 2-layers of drywall with a rubbery-glue-layer inbetween...... which prevents sound from traveling through..... here is a video.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hoSba5hLWY It would appear there is conflicting information about what is better to use, but there is also "Quietrock" which I believe is a lot more expensive, but is said to be a LOT better...... it actually is as easy to hang as any normal drywall too, so that makes it a lot easier to work with too...... here is quietrock: http://www.quietrock.com/quietrock-d...FSda7Aodpl_k4w The thought behind doing it around the furnace at a minimum...... is because that will prevent you from hearing it kick on/off during the winter while you're watching movies..... The thought behind doing the whole room is to prevent sound from traveling through the studs, duct-work, etc.... Once I re-do my addition, I may go with green-glue despite the fact that none of the walls are shared with other rooms...... just because I don't want the neighbors to hear me! |
thanks beta.
does anyone know or have any insight about suspended ceilings?? i stopped @ menard's to get a quote the other night and they have the option of hard plastic framing or metal. the metal is almost 2x as expensive but i was wondering if there is any risk of them rattling and making morei noise than the plastic ones when the HT is going?? drywall on the ceiling is not an option. 1: some of my duct work hangs below the struts and i'm not framing the whole ceiling.....i'll lose even more space and i don't want to spend the money!! :D and 2: i want to have access to any/all wiring and piping in case something needs to be fixed in the future. |
again, not the cheapest solution, but available in black (which is a huge bonus if you ask me!)
Acoustic ceiling tiles: http://www.acousticalsolutions.com/a...cal-drop-tiles How big of an area are we talking about? if it's not "huge" then I'd bite the bullet and even delay the construction to save funds etc, to do it the best way possible the first time...... it adds up when you're trying to soundproof vs. basic finishing :( |
well....would it be better to do the entire floor space in these or just the HT area??
the main support beam runs east/west in the basement.....the HT will take up the smaller area south of the beam. the north side will be where i plan on putting my bar and poker table. all of the audio equipment will stay on the same side. |
holy sh!t!!!! I just got to look @ the prices for those tiles!!! :jawdrop:
to do the entire basement…..$1700+!!! :faint: but again, something to consider!!! :bitenails: thanks again beta. |
Gonna stop and pick up the lumber for my movie cabinet 2nite!!!
Might be able to talk the wife into going to her ma’s house so I can use her dad’s shop and get started right away 2nite!!! |
Hey Benny, first time I have come into your thread. Just wanted to say great work and I look forward to seeing everything done.
P.S. The new(ish) siding on the house came out great! |

Can't wait until it's all drywalled up! Even though the space is pretty much the same, you can really get a good feel for what the room will look like once that's done.

i finished off the breeze way between the house and garage this summer and once that drywall was up....u could really tell how it was finally gonna look!!! w/any luck, i'll get some drywall up later next week sometime. i'm gonna def. do around where that movie cabinet is gonna go 1st b/c i also want to get started on that. i'm gonna cut all of the outside pieces and then the 3 "braces" that will go in the middle of the unit and then glue/nail it all together @ my house b/c i won't be able to get it into the basement if i put it together @ my father in laws!!! :bitenails: |
For anyone that has been following it, I’ve got my basement framed out and I’m ready to run all of my cables within the next week or so.
Part of me wants to order a wall bracket for the tv and have it there for when I run the power outlet and cables for behind the tv. I don’t want to end up w/the cables showing or have the bracket be in the way. If ordering a bracket from monoprice, do I need to know exactly which tv I’m going to get before I order?? I want to get a 65” Panasonic plasma. From what I’ve read on monoprice, a slim or ultra slim models may not be the best choice b/c I don’t want to run into problems or need something special to plug the cables in. Could I go w/something like THIS and be ok?? The description says 37-63” tv’s, is it gonna matter that the tv I want is 65”?? Thanks for any help anyone can offer. |

thanks willow....i copied the wrong post!! :o
the bracket will support the weight, just not sure if the mounting holes will align w/the holes on the tv. |

I purchased a Sony Trinitron-Vega or WEGA, or whatever they called them, when they first came out...... it was 275 Lbs I believe (36" ) ..... either way, I got it from Best Buy, and they said "This is the only stand we sell that can hold it" so I thought...... GREAT! Bought it, took it home, pulled out the instructions to put it together.... and right in the manual, it said "Holds up to 90 Lbs" :yikes: Either way.... I'm not sure how many years ago that was (over 10 now) but that T.V. is sitting on that same stand to this very day (although it's pretty shaky! ) EDIT: but like I said...... mounting holes lining up is what I'd be concerned with too. |
i'll see if i can get the live chat to work 2nite and ask them about the panny plasma's and their brackets.
really getting excited to start the next project. i'm hoping to have all of the drywall up in 2-3 nights.there isn't a whole lot of cutting to do on 5 of the walls/surfaces.....only the occastional outlet to cut out. |

I am still in the middle of wanting to enclose the room by framing it and also with putting up a ceiling. I want to drywall my ceiling, because I am truly unhappy with the drop ceiling that was already there. I could be unhappy with it, because I believe it just might have been the cheapest stuff they could find to put up. It looks terrible, no sound proofing, vibrates and when the bass hits, it snows dusts. You can look at my gallery and you can take a look at this Video There is a Home Theater Video section where a few people have posted vids on their home theaters also. |

i'm gonna go with 2x2 foot tiles and hopefully it won't look too bad when they are smaller like that. i never really liked the bigger tiles like the ones you had in your video. it's a work in progress so we'll see how it ends up. :ohnoes: |

Honestly I am so lost on what I want to do to the ceiling. I feel the same as you about problems that may occur. Also, it's already pretty low... I have seen much better then what I have and that's why I know they used the cheap stuff. I'm happy the walls have insulation in them. |
