Question to all,

Fav Dusan Makavejev in the collection/Eclipse? And if I would have some money to spend, which should I get? I am thinking Sweet Movie, but would flip if it gets a blu release next year. I am protecting my $50 gift card more than I am cash.:D

And yes, never seen Sweet Movie. But don't give me this "ain't for everybody" crap. I've seen Salo. I've seen porn (who hasn't? Maybe Spielberg.). I've seen/own/love Paul Morrissey films (where trannys *that spelling doesn't look right and not going to google it* uses coke bottles for something other than drinking from.). I've seen Saving Private Ryan (the horror!). I've seen more "shocking" then Sweet Movie. So lay your favs on me.

I absolutely love this post. A month that contained releases by Lynch and Jodorowsky would be phenomenal... only in dreams I guess.

It's a bummer that King Shot, the film Jodorowsky was making with Lynch as co-producer, fell through. Would have been cool to see what came out of that arrangement.

I thought he is still trying, the last I heard. Outside of Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks, never was a HUGE fan of Lynch. But if he can help Jodorowsky to release a new film, more respect to him.

I'm still bummed that the 2 Lynch projects - Ronnie Rocket (with little man Michael Anderson) and One Saliva Bubble (with Steve Martin & Martin Short) - from the 90s never happened. The scripts for both are wacky.

"So with some excitement, here's Jodorowsky on the line to tell us about it: "It's not happening. They didn't find the money," he says in his thick South American accent."

As for Lynch, I always get a kick out of his stuff. The sort of success he's had in the mainstream while he sticks to his guns is pretty admirable. I enjoy all of his films (Minus Fire Walk With me, Dune, and Elephant Man, haven't seen them) so maybe I'm biased.

It would be cool if he could work something out with Criterion, but as was said, all of his films can be pretty easily found so no big deal if they don't.

Not that it matters in the least bit, but if I listed the people that post in here that I care for and those that I don't care for would it help everyone to move on to something else?

Has anyone ever been to criterion.com?

They have information on new releases, out-of-print titles, an FAQ and more. It seems most people aren't aware of the site.

CRITERION HAS A WEBSITE??

Indeed. It is shocking. So when questions are posted asking IF Criterion's own web site might have new release information it is not surprising.

I have all the Dušan Makavejev releases from Criterion, CG.

I've watched both "Man Is Not A Bird" and "Love Affair, or The Case of the Missing Switch*board Operator" from the Eclipse set. I still have not watched "Innocence Unprotected," though.

I also own and have watched "Sweet Movie" and "WR: Mysteries of the Organism."

The two films I've seen in the Eclipse set, in my opinion, are nothing like "Sweet Movie" or "WR" in style or narrative form. Each of those two Eclipse films were just nicely told, straight-forward films. I actually found that I enjoy "Man Is Not A Bird" and "Love Affair" in the Eclipse set more than "Sweet Movie" or "WR."

"Sweet Movie" would be my pick over "WR," as well. "Sweet Movie" isn't "shocking," obviously, in this day and age. If I recall correctly, I think it has lots of sugar in it and some urinating... nothing any adult shouldn't be able to handle.

It is true, Shell. It's just that the majority of people these days are too lazy to go find certain answers for themselves and expect all the answers to be handed to them on a silver platter.

I'm pretty sure I've helped my fair share of people in various forums across the internet, but as soon as I throw out my sarcasm regarding easily searchable information that's usually when I'm labeled a "jackhole."

This is such a hard question. The eclipse set is great, and so is Sweet Movie. Although it's very close (I own all that Criterion is released of his) I'd say WR: Mysteries of the Organism. There's just something about the narrative style that I loved. Sweet Movie is probably more shocking if you're in the mood for that, and the Eclipse Series is one of my favorites released, you honestly can't go wrong.

If Criterion was to release some Lynch, I'd rather see The Elephant Man, or Mulholland Drive. Twin Peaks wouldn't be bad, but stay away from Blue Velvet, please!

BTW, doesn't Studiocanal own the rights to Mulholland Drive?

Shoot, add some of his shorts to one of those too.

Are they releasing BDs of films that are already in their library as DVDs? Do they plan to release all of their current catalog as BDs? OR are the BD releases all new to the Criterion catalog?

Criterion is releasing older titles on BD along with newer releases. Not all titles will be released on BD for a multitude of reasons, but Criterion does seem to add a couple each month from their older titles when rights are available.
