What I'm wondering, though, is how many of these titles are we going to need to explain to you why they're "significant," Jedi? :)

I was thrilled that Criterion changed the cover art for the new Solaris release. The old one wasn't bad... but I love the font of the new issue of Solaris more.

Diabolique now has a cooler cover than the old DVD release. ( I know many hate the animated covers but hey it isn't a normal studio photoshop hack job :-) (Have you seen TAXI DRIVER ugh how boring and just plain lazy)

No one seems to like the more stylized Chaplin covers, but I don't mind them. Beats the old basic DVD release covers for sure.

May is going to be a pricy month. Solaris is the one I am most looking forward to.

So is the next superhero movie, video games, youtube videos, etc on the internet. So "EPIC" is downgrading.

Chaplin's Topsy-Turvy looks good. Oh, what, it's not Topsy-Turvy? huh. How do ya like that!

The collection being invaded by things like Broadcast News and Something Wild leads me to believe they've already released everything good they could get their hands on. So that's it, the Criterion Collection is done, over, nothing more to see. From now on it will just be the same titles being re-released over and over again in cycles.

I can name 1,000s of films (heck even non-studio films) that they could look to. Should I start?

:hyper::lolcry:

haven't seen a lot of post 1927 and pre90s films. so there's always a huge gap =P

but i've seen most films made pre1927 (big silent film buff). i've seen all of Chaplin's complete discography. i still like his 1921, 'The Kid' the best. still his most personal film. so will def. grab that once that is out... meanwihle... i luv collecting any Chaplin on BD.

So you were watching Bergman et al when you were five?

Brad1963 02-14-2011 08:10 PM

Both Broadcast News and Something Wild are worthy of being in the Criterion Collection. They are 2 of the best films of the 1980's.

I got to watch Bucking Broadway this morning. Awesome supplement silent on Stagecoach. It works well for Valentine's Day.

Bergman is AMAZING. :)

Persona is my favorite Bergman and one of my all-time favorites. It would be sublime on BR with Sven Nykvist's fantastic cinematography (as would Virgin Spring and countless others, of course).

If anyone has any tip on its status with MGM---- please share!

Aren't you about 20? Was just questioning your patronizing attitude. Anyway, you act like a five year old (and have the grammar of one too).

That's cool, I fit right in with the 5 year old movie liking on this forum and the bashing of cover art.

that's the truth. traffic on this site will increase tenfold when the Look Who's Talking trilogy is announced on blu-ray.

That probably have just as many reasons why they couldn't release them.

And Criterion means different things to different people. To some, just that a film they like gets a Criterion release at all, with a unique cover and a few new extras, is cause for celebration. To me Criterion means getting (mostly) good quality releases of films no other distributor is going to bother with.

That's why I see stuff like reasonably big studio titles on Criterion as a complete waste, because they would be released sooner or later by the studios anyway. I don't give a crap about extras so to me a re-release of a title previously in the collection on DVD is no more a re-hash than a release of a title previously released on DVD by some other distributor.

Hence, why I started the rant.

Be cool you little blu-rayers, I'm still going to spend $30 to upgrade Solaris, so we can still be friends,
