You've been boycotting Netflix for more than 10 years? Man, you're way ahead of the curve. They didn't become complete bastards until relatively recently. Also:

Netflix...started its subscription service in 1999.

Well that sucks about Netflix, the huge selection of Criterion's that can be streamed is one of the main reasons I love netflix so much.

White Material is being released in select art theatres 3/4/2011. Naturally, don't expect it at your local corporate multiplex :)

Are there criterion titles that include 2 blu discs, and are packaged in clear plastic? I'd like to make a custom case for seven samurai since I go to that one fairly often... And I'm not sure what to request when I order my other replacements.

Really? It was playing at a place here in Atlanta in January.

No, Criterion has not made a custom 2-disc plastic case for their blu-rays.

If you want things to be uniform and match, your only options might be to...

a) buy an extra single-disc replacement case and put the extra disc inside a sleeve in the case, which is what many people have done with the "Benjamin Button" 2-disc release that comes in the regular blue-colored blu-ray case.
b) try to wrangle a 2-disc clear DVD case from Criterion, which will probably be difficult.

Criterion uses cases made from Scanavo, which are sometimes difficult to find from online retailers in quantities less than 100 per order... and that's only for the Scanavo DVD cases that Criterion uses. The clear blu-ray cases are custom-made for Criterion, and I've never come across them online.

No, they were complete bastards years ago. I canceled my subscription after it became clear they were holding discs for awhile before releasing them to me because I was watching too many. They lost a class action lawsuit about this a number of years later. I didn't participate because all you got was two free months of a subscription and I didn't want anything to do with their site. PLUS they use annoying pop-ups as a form of advertising. Why support a company that does that?

Didn't think so as I hadn't run across one yet

Not a fan of anything, really. :) I see that the poster is now sold out, though. I guess it doesn't take long when there are only 200 available.

Yeah, you should've seen when they were doing Star Wars prints. 3 sets of 350 each sold out "instantly", before they could even post on twitter that they were for sale.

And to keep this on topic, I watched the Leopard blu for the first time last night (I had seen the DVD version) and was blown away. The PQ is AMAZING. Bravo, Criterion.

This sucks on a few levels for me:

1.) My wife pushed NetFlix to help slow down the stream (no pun intended) of impulse/blind buys of Criterion titles.

2.) My intent was/has never been to use NetFlix streaming to replace the purchasing of CC BDs...but as a way to see if I enjoyed a film enough to actually buy it. This has been for DVDs as well as BDs and even includes Kino, MoC, BFI, and possibly other UK companies BD titles as well.

As I (and others) have intimated, I don't just "buy" a film because "it looks good". I have to either be entertained, educated, and/or "moved" by a film to even consider spending the money on it.

Edit: I wonder why Criterion posted this on Facebook? It's been a top 10 for a while. CHELSEA GIRLS! CHELSEA GIRLS!

Don't know if this has been posted,

Janus Films has a new print of François Truffaut's The Soft Skin and will open at Film Forum in New York City on March 11. Next, Criterion blu-ray and dvd most likely after.

I think it's been posted all over the rest of the internet... just not here. So, good job, old chap!
