Seems there'll be no Demy this July. Bummer.

Happy for Beauty and the Beast, though.

They could've put up Happiness to tie-in with Life During Wartime (the former being the better title)

Melville is getting a Malle push by Criterion.

Same here, but I am sure Le Samourai is not too far behind.

Again, no Carlos? Sonofa.

Nice to see Ray in the collection, but an eclipse of the trilogy would have been perfect.

Yes but Leon Morin is "one of those films". If Criterion didn't do it--- who would?

It did seem like Rashomon was next up but I've personally never liked that one enough to own it, so High and Low is a great surprise.

Agree and agree.

The last third or so of High and Low turns into a pretty standard (or at least what is pretty standard now) police procedural but it has a great premise and is very well executed. A very welcome addition.

July looks to be a great month. I have never seen the Melville title, and I don't own Beauty and the Beast so those will both be pre orders. I will have to look into the others.

Satyajit Ray! GET IT!;)

Not a bad set of releases to wake up to.

Given how long my wishlist is starting to get if B&N doesn't have a sale this summer then somebody had better.

TheDot 04-15-2011 08:26 PM

Not a spectacular month for me (im sure it is for others), but thats a good thing because there's already so many titles I am planning to buy when the next sale comes around.

Still, High and Low and Beauty and the Beast are definite purchases.

Nothing to do with Criterion, but I'm happy to see Tarkovsky's The Sacrifice coming to blu-ray via KINO video.

italy12 04-15-2011 08:39 PM

Mike Leigh's Naked??

octagon 04-15-2011 08:41 PM

It could have been worse. It could have been 'A Film By Mike Leigh Naked'.

moody41 04-15-2011 08:43 PM

Not on the list and not announced so looks like Naked isn't getting an upgrade.

Just checked and it's down for 12th July on the Naked page but not added to the coming soon or included in the July release announement.

italy12 04-15-2011 08:45 PM

Go to Naked's page...it has a new cover and BD specs...it was one of the 2 that ccfixx posted this morning in spoiler form. Looks interesting, though.

It's in the July announcement on the main page, right between Beauty and the Beast and High and Low.

WTF is with the new Naked cover? The old one is so much better and more fitting to the film. Still going to upgrade though.

Good month.
