I wish I had been younger when the "classic/foreign movie" appreciation set in, but I guess the bug hits when it hits. I'm 28 now, but probably didn't really get into collecting/appreciating until I was more like 25 or so. Congrats to you youngins who are jumping right into it :p

I sometimes wonder if it would be nice to be young like that once more and then I just think, not sure I would like to redo all of those years once again. :)
Still enjoy them while they last, 30 come's so fast and a few years later 40 is already there knocking at the door :D

Keep on with what you're doing. Don't take my comment (or any others) as an indication that your approach is somehow wrong or what you buy isn't up to "standards". It isn't our taste or money, but yours. I was curious what movies you watched at your age that were older and found they were under-represented based on what was listed. There are many self-appointed "experts" on the forums that feel the need to comment on everything but there is also some good information and things to be investigated as well. Your posts are welcomed and questions will usually be responded to.

Well, he didn't lie or misrepresent anything. He stated that he watches more films from the 50's and earlier. Nothing to do with what he owns.

But you're spot-on about the self-proclaimed "experts." They're a hoot to read!

It's totally random what they show too, something that was on last month will be subbed out as they miracuously no longer have the rights to it, but MPIX or craptastic silver screen (which I don't get either of) will show it 24/7. Grr. I do find it amusing that as soon as I order a movie on DVD/Blu-Ray, TCM decides they're going to show it.

Amazon has me befuddled again. DHL's saying my order from Friday, which includes Bigger than Life and Au Revoir Les Enfants, is now in Illinois, and has been sitting there since yesterday, and that was the only time it moved, despite Amazon saying it shipped on Friday. On the other hand, my Monterey Pop set is being shipped via UPS Express, despite me selecting standard shipping, and will most likely be here Friday. WTS is Amazon doing with their orders? I'm not complaining about MP getting here early, but I am concerned about the other order since it's been a week, and the CUPW are most likely going to strike at 23:59 today.

Wait Amazon is using DHL instead of using UPS or USPS or their equivalent?

Speaking of TCM. August 15th they are showing a full day of Lon Chaney's films from 6AM to 6AM the next day. In case your not familiar with Lon Chaney he is one of the best silent screen actors IMO and I highly recommend seeing a few of his movies.

Although I hate they don't have 'The Penalty' on their list. One of my favorites. Its amazing how his character has no legs in the film.

anyway back on topic. I've gone from saying 'I'm only' to 'I'm in my late 30's'.
Also when it comes to age I always lie about it. In the next discussion of age I will be 42 and then 17. :D

Also for you M fans out there

Thanks Banned User! I wish TCM would only show titles which aren't available on factory pressed discs instead of showing titles which're readily available on DVD/HD DVD/Blu-ray disc. Would be nice if they had HD options for film titles to watch.
Even IFC isn't even true HD it's only upconverted. From what I could tell.

That's a tad extreme, don't you think? Gone would be TCM staples like Casablanca, the Hope/Crosby pictures, Marx Brothers films, Astaire/Rogers films, Annie Hall, etc

The Makioka Sisters, 2.0

I turned 37 almost a month ago on Cinco de Mayo (I just thought I would share that because I want to be part of the group)...but the real reason I'm posting is I'm wondering if anyone has seen the film version of "The Makioka Sisters". I'm looking forward to seeing it, but would love to hear what people who have seen it thought (I read the book and loved it). And I am ok if the movie veers from the book...I fully support the artistic fingerprint screenplay writers and film directors like to put on someone else's story. So that's not a deal-breaker for me.

Out of the 10 orders I placed since March, 7 of them have been handled by DHL when Standard Internation Shipping was selected, which is then handed over to Canada Post upon entry. Two were somehow bumped into UPS International Express after selecting Standard Internation Shipping, and the 3rd non-DHL was USPS which also became controlled by Canada Post upon entry into Canada once it cleared customs as it was a marketplace seller, as it was a jacket.

We Canadians get the shaft, orders are hit and miss as to who ships it and when we get it. The pending postal strike is just throwing a wrench in the works.

Amazon Canada normally uses Canada Post for their free shipping, but for one order, they used standard UPS.
