At last, Fassbinder comes to BD !

http://www.olivefilms.com/films/despair-blu-ray/

yeah they have released that on dvd along with another Fassbinder (I Only Want You to Love Me) and announced this after people already purchased the dvd.

But I will get the blu-ray for sure, due to the new doc they are including with it.

Olive Films is quickly becoming a fav. with these 2 releases and Godard's Histoire(s) Du Cinéma coming in December. They are also releasing, FINALLY, the fully uncut T.V. version of Fassbinder's The Stationmaster's Wife (YES! One of my fav Fassbinders and actually my avatar right now) and a couple of Godard's 70's films like Numéro deux and Ici et Ailleurs. CAN'T WAIT.

Where did you find that info? The Stationmaster's Wife release sounds like an amazing addition to my collection. Is it coming in BD? Will buy it anyway but a BD release will be welcome. For the later part, yeah, Olive Films has a quite amazing catalogue. Many interesting films for sure.

They were announced about a year ago when they announced they had the rights to the 2 Fassbinders just released. So hopefully it's coming soon too. No info on any blu-ray yet, it might have a chance though.

I remember reading some time ago that Paramount's rights for this title were for U.S. theatrical distribution only. They didn't have home video distribution rights. This was several years ago and may have changed, however.

Is it just that people feel they need to own the Criterion one or is the Studio Canal version really that bad? I can't ever see me paying that kind of money for a blu-ray somebody else has in print.

I've paid three times as much for a title from Criterion that's been released by another company. Spinal Tap, Robocop, and Sid and Nancy being a few examples. Granted this was before blu-ray hit the market but even still I feel no need to upgrade. If your seriously into the collection, than their releases are sufficient enough.

When you say "like the SSoS," do you mean smaller in size like that particular one? I always wondered why that single disc digipak was smaller in comparison to other 1-disc digis like Amarcord and Breathless.

To me it looks pretty much the same. I don't think it looks as thick as Amarcord :)

Hmm. I wish more Criterions included posters. My walls would be filled.

I wish they could sell posters of every release's cover! If that were the case I would be out of both money and wall space.

That's be great, though I would still totally be content with some decent size posters included in the BD releases.
