Well yeah the main characters are both cops but
[Show spoiler]the whole plot is the same. They are both sleeping with a prostitute who is later killed and the remainder of the film is of them struggling on wither they should take revenge. Of course the both go in opposite direction but the mood of both films are about the same and if I’m not mistaken both films came out in the same year but if you watch them both you’ll understand what I mean.

I am scared for the upcoming B&N sale. Even though I only plan on picking up Salo, I know I'll end up buying as many as possible. Including:
- Island of Lost Souls
- Modern Times
- Paths of Glory
- The Killing
- Kagemusha
- Wings of Desire
- The Phantom Carriage
- Che
- The Great Dictator
- In the Realm of the Senses
- The Rules of the Game
- Revanche
- The 400 Blows
- A Christmas Tale

The last sale I only intended on getting Antichrist. I ended up getting:
- Antichrist
- Yojimbo/Sanjuro
- Videodrome
- The Seventh Seal
- Seven Samurai
- Les Diaboliques

I thought it was a great movie, although I liked Army of Shadows better. I bought it blind, so yeah I'd say a blind buy should be safe. If you like heist movies, even better.

Harakiri is a masterpiece and essential for every Criterion lover, in my opinion. So good, even though I have the Eureka version.

So what's the deal with the Harakiri transfer? It's cropped compared to the other blu release. Is this more accurate to the original presentation?

lol no. MoC just plain beat Criterion this time around where the feature is concerned.

rocks off 10-25-2011 05:40 AM

The only question I can ask then is Why? Shouldn't more people be concerned by this? What is the purpose of cropping it other than it being a mistake, and in that case, shouldn't more people be contacting them regarding a replacement of some sort?

It's just the way Criterion did it, so they're not gonna replace anything. Eureka had the right idea for Harakiri, which is why I picked up their version, although it does look like the Criterion's picture quality is better than Eureka's, from what I've seen.

Takeshi666 10-25-2011 08:33 AM

Godzilla on a Criterion blu?

TheDot 10-25-2011 09:26 AM

13 items currently in my B&N basket in preparation for the sale :worried:

...and that isn't including the titles I wanted to catch up on (Chaplin) or the few last minute impulse purchases I may in the sale!
It's ridiculous how much I look forward to this sale though  Haven't even finished watching all the titles and special features from the last one :unimpressed:

BohemianGraham 10-25-2011 10:51 AM

I'm limiting myself to about 5 titles this sale, since I bought 3 when I was down in the states 2 weeks ago. That will leave me with 17 titles left on my wishlist, with 4 of them being December's releases. I need to split my orders in two, so I don't get dinged via customs.

Speaking of Criterion, Carnival of Souls came on TCM last night. I PVR'ed it.
