Chungking Express being the exception

I made my order online just now, I ordered:

Island of Lost Souls
Kuroneko
Hunger
Paris, Texas
Salo

Only one I've seen is Salo, so the rest are Blind-buys that I'm very curious about. I hope I made the right choices with those! It was tough deciding...there's so many I want.

do you understand why they are more expensive?

The only major studio release that I know of where the overall content rivals that of a Criterion release is the 5-disc Blade Runner set.

All other catalog blu-rays have one or two HD featurettes (if we're lucky), the rest are in SD ported over from the DVD.

Almost all of Criterion's blu-ray releases have HD supplements, even in cases where the film was previously released on DVD.

I don't even have any Criterion blu-rays yet because, yes, they are a bit out of my price range, but I don't really think they're outrageously priced... more than most releases? Yes... but you get what you pay for.

Awesome stuff and righteous too.

After starting into The Battle of Algiers tonight I noticed that the 1.85 to 1 image has very slight pillar bars on the left and right. (I purchased this today at the B&N sale) This is the same issue that was noticed on the Criterion release of Harakiri, just a smaller amount of image is missing on the Algiers disc.

I can honestly say that these framing issues did not detract from my appreciation of the films, but it was interesting that two Criterion BD's have this anomaly.

Kuroneko is excellent, Paris Texas is an 80s classic, Salo is an acquired taste (heheh)

I went with Kuroneko because I've recently realized I really need to see more Japanese films (any suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated!).

And Paris, Texas I've gone back and forth on since it was released, so I finally went for it.

I was joking in response to that spam of a post, but thanks for showing me more of who's who around here. 2 words got you to say all of that.

I'm still kicking myself for not jumping on that when it first went up. Thinking about it now I literally don't know what I was thinking when I decided to 'think about it' for a little while longer. Did I think it would get lower???

Good luck, though, I hope the order holds up.

Fust of all young 'un, you gotta demonstrate a talent. CassevetesGodard (aka Spiderbaby) has talent (see post #23824). For Canucks, that means three instigator game misconducts and three diving penalties. And just in case you missed it, some of us are a little more Veteran than others of us.

Are you f'n high?

Just because I responded to a dumb post worthy of spam with a silly response which obviously I don't agree with for the following reasons:

1. One must think the films they release are "overrated". But wait, if the films are overrated, how is Criterion, who didn't make the films, how are they "overrated"? Stupid reason #1.

2. If how they go about presenting the movies are "overrated", then by all means, tell me why?

Now where was I? Oh yeah, just because I responded to a dumb post, which many did, your high a** came on here to do what exactly? Start s*** with me?

That troll hasn't been on since the beginning of this year.

P.S., why do you dig through a year's worth of posts just for lil' me? Weird.
