On a side note:

An upside of being unemployed (at my own decision, so no big thing) is catching up on all of the Criterions I haven't gotten around to watching. Downside: unable to partake as much as I'd like in the B&N sale. Woe is me! ;)

Hey! Criterion! Perhaps you'd like to open up an office in San Francisco? Redwood City? And thus hire little ol' me? :p

Got a second copy of "Carlos", same result. Using both an Oppo and double checking on a PS3. Left surround channel mixed too low. This is either Criterion's fault or a failure on the part of the actual sound mixer.

Someone needs to answer for this. I am not surprised the review didn't notice it because I am currently on prednisone and have superpowers at the moment that standard humans don't posses.

Chungking Express should've come with a month's supply of soon to expire canned pineapple then.;)
I'm all for special "supplements" of this kind... Criterion could start with Tokyo Drifter and and offer a special edition containing that powder blue suit.:D

...I just read the review of "Rushmore" >>>

@amoergosum

Unfortunately all of Criterion's Blu-ray (and DVD) releases are region A locked. Do yourself a favor and buy a region-free Blu-ray player. If you're interested in more films published by Criterion it really is a no brainer considering how cheap these devices are these days.

Do you guys recommend Hulu Plus just for the Criterions? I'm thinking about getting it.

Kiss Me Deadly with a box of
[Show spoiler]nuclear material

BluPat 11-09-2011 08:34 PM

The review of 'The Phantom Carriage' on Blu-ray.com says the transfer is in 1080i :eek: Is this true? I want to get one regardless but, I was just curious. Isn't this completely against the norm for Criterion?

Yes, it is...but that was the only way to properly preserve the original frame rate of the film. Some others here know more about this, but that is basically the reason behind it.
