He is without a doubt the biggest "missing person" from Japanese cinema in America IMO.

I know where I can find Eros plus massacre on dvd-r, but I would rather wait for a true dvd/blu.

Then next, everyone seems to go to A Woman Under the Influence. I like Opening Night as well. Hope ya like Husbands.

Can anyone tell me if there's a slipbox associated with Robinson Crusoe on Mars.

Bitter Rice
Wild Strawberries
Drunken Angel
Stray Dog
La Jetee/Sans Soleil
Weekend (Godard)

I would be quite happy with these titles. Tuesday is going to be a good day with the Three Colors trilogy release and February announcements!

I am going to make only one prediction for February: Tokyo Story. Seems like its about time for some Ozu blu for Criterion.

Off-topic,

Rob Zombie's Lords of Salem cast is ridiculous (in a good way). So much of those "where have they been?" actors (bolded the ones he has already worked with):

Meg Foster (John Carpenter's They Live, Masters of the Universe)
Udo Kier
Ernest Thomas (Raj from What's Happening)
Bruce Davison (Altman's Short Cuts) ---part was going to actor Bruce Dern but fallen out
Christopher Knight (Peter Brady from The Brady Bunch)
Sheri Moon Zombie
Ken Foree
Sid Haig
Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes)
Patricia Quinn (Rocky Horror Picture Show)
Dee Wallace
Clint Howard
Torsten Voges (The Big Lebowski)
Billy Drago
Lisa Marie
Judy Geeson
Marķa Conchita Alonso (Dennis Hopper's Colors)
Jeff Daniel Phillips (UNCLE SEYMOUR COFFINS in H2)
Richard Lynch

He is filming, yet still posting cast news still, so prob expect more.

Hey thanks - I did not realise that they had The Letter Never Sent on Hulu. Not that I can watch it here in Australia - but it gives me hope that it will see a bluray release some day. I've had it on VHS for about 20 years recorded from TV, and would love to see its glorious black and white imagery in hi-def.

Anyways what I would like to see from what I know they have:

The Chris Marker films
World on a Wire
Oshima Youth Trilogy
Mikhail Kalatazov's The Cranes are Flying upgrade and The Letter Never Sent that they have on Hulu.

8-9 films (depending on if the Oshima is actually 3 or 4 films. Don't know yet. It's The Sun's Burial, Night and Fog in Japan, and Cruel Story of Youth. But don't know if they have A Town of Love and Hope or The Rebel with it.).

From my memory (without walking to my movie room) I'm going to say "no" it's a Scanovo case or whatever they're called.

Yeah, I got really excited when I saw it was put up on Hulu. Hopefully it gets a blu release and not just sit on Hulu.

It is difficult sometimes to predict. I thought we'd get more clues from Facebook. I'd like Tokyo Story also, I bought the UK import which isn't the best PQ quality. Three Colours will be amazing.

I heard Sheri Moon Zombie was a hold-out in contract negotiations ;)

I am not a huge fan of the 'genre' really..... but I have to admit, that Rob Zombie films are enjoyable because of the "shock" and the humor is intended and not just because the film tried too hard and became a joke itself.

House of 1000 Corpses is great...... and like I said, not really a fan of the genre.

Even though they're suppliments, the database allows you to put in that a disc has two films, or even that there's two cuts of one film in a set, like The Leopard or Senso. You still have 2 movies on Blu-ray do you not, despite one being a "bonus feature"? Also, Bergman Island may be a suppliment with The Seventh Seal, but it has its own spine in the collection. So many people on this forum ask "what Criterions come with a second movie as a bonus feature," and this is an easier way to find that.

I totally agree that Blow Out (for example) shouldn't count as two titles in a collection. It's not like it's a Double Feature, with both titles displayed on the cover/spine. It's Blow Out (on the cover, spine) and oh yeah, Criterion was nice enough to include some obscure film from the '60s as an extra. It's even worse when you're looking at your collection, and it shows Blow Out/Murder a la Mod, as if they are equally important or it's a double feature.

Then change it. You can change it you know. I've changed it to reflect that there are two films on the disc, just as someone else has it so that Monterey Pop is a 3 film set, when it used to be two. Killer's Kiss is a supplemental film, but everyone treats it as an important release. There's no reference to Killer's Kiss on the cover or spine of The Killing. Therefore, according to your statement, it shouldn't count as two films.

It's still accurate to say there are two films on the disc, regardless as to how important you feel they are. There are many people in this thread who feel that Blow Out doesn't even belong in the collection at all. Murder a la Mod may be obscure, but it's still an important film as it's the first solo director credit of De Palma.

Also, Even if you don't specify the second film in the title line, the database will still register that a title like Blow Out is two instead of one, because of the way the database is designed.

I like it!! This would be the best month ever. The Oshima films, World on a Wire, and my often mentioned (every month, in fact) upgrade wish for The Cranes are Flying, plus a new Kalatozov into the collection.

Edit: Of course, the only thing better would be if the month also included Le Samourai and the unexpected appearance of some of my long wished for Australian New Wave films......

It's not as big a deal that they're counted as two films, but like I already said--it's worse when you're looking at the title and it shows as Blow Out/Murder a la Mod. Again, it's not like it's a double feature. Do you think anybody picked up Blow Out just because it included Murder a la Mod, as if they wouldn't have gotten it regardless?

With something like Presumed Innocent/Frantic or The Last Boy Scout/Last Man Standing--I'm sure peeps bought the DF for maybe one film only. Do you see the difference? :ahh:

Although I really wanna get that Kenji Mizoguchi Eclipse set....

I picked this one up tonight on my way home from work.

Yeah thanks NS chick, it really shouldn't say the name of a supplement in the title or count as 2 films.

But it is two films, despite one being a supplement. I guess I'm just fussy about these things being a librarian/data manager and all. Also, how come no one complained about The Killing / Killer's Kiss? Killer's Kiss is only a supplement, and has been from day one, yet it's always been treated as a major film.
