That would make me so very very happy :D I got to watch Melancholia on Wednesday on HDnet and it quickly became my favorite movie of the year. An absolutely stunning film. It would make a very nice companion piece to antichrist for the collection (both dealing with the theme of severe depression)

For some reason though, I'm not holding my breathe :o especially that soon..... but it would be a perfect fit for the collection and they do seem to favor Trier films so you never know :)

Well, we've gone without a Kurosawa since July.

Ryan said he'd like to see Rashomon in 2012 but that he didn't think the hint was for the film.

Yeah, if they have to go to the Kurosawa Samurai Well then Throne of Blood would be a fine way to go but not going to that well would be fine with me too.

blubear II 11-11-2011 08:35 PM

I'm all for Rashomon or Hidden Fortress.
Also would love to see Mann's THIEF in de line up someday...

It doesn't have to be Criterion (though I wouldn't object if it were) but yeah, I would love to see a quality release of Thief.

It's not an exceptional or important film by any stretch but I think it would fit in much the same way something like Blow Out does...they're both solid films that are very representative/evocative of their era with noteworthy directors.

edit: The Hunger would fit that description too (well, not so much the noteworthy director part but still)...I need to start whining for that...it would be a great addition

Two of the films I ordered from B&N are delayed - The Killing and Pierrot Le Fou. Anybody have any experience and any idea as to why that might be / how long I'll have to wait before they get shipped?

Three possible reasons:

1. Pierrot le fou is OOP, and hard to get
2. Both titles are highly popular purchases this sale, and you're later in the queue to receive them
3. You're a Canadian, and you get pushed down the queue for an American buyer, or so I figure.

The Tin Drum needs a Criterion Blu. Just watched the DVD & the film was rather good.

I was really hoping they'd give Canadians similar treatment to the Americans. I also really hope I still get Pierrot Le Fou :ohnoes:

EDIT: Both orders just got canceled! I guess I'll try again and see if that improves matters. Not terribly impressed right now.

Didn't the director say that a Criterion BD was in the works? Or maybe I just figured that since they released it on DVD too.

I hope that if we get it, both the original cut and director's cut are included.

Nope, we don`t get similar treatment, and although I`ve never had it happen yet, what happened to you is what happens to a lot of us Canadians. Look at how long it takes for us to receive a shipment, on average, a month. Mind you, I think a lot of that has to do with Canada Post, but B&N thinks we should get our stuff within 2 weeks at the most, and seem rather surprised that it takes a month or more. We`re not even entitled to getting a free Nook replacement charger when it breaks within the year`s warranty, as they claim no Nook items can cross the boarder, yet we can pay 25 bucks to order one from their site that will ship to Canada. The Nook itself, however, won`t, but the accessories will. That makes no freaking sense to me.

I`d keep trying. Too bad Amazon`s jacked the price back up, a couple weeks ago they had Pierrot le fou on for 19.99, and it sold out like crazy. :(

no word on anything Herzog. Sorry.

Not being snarky, as I always like your comments, but who do you think it might be? We're only speculating Kurosawa because the Criterion Cast does.

Could it possibly be Hiroshi Inagaki's Samurai Trilogy? :ohnoes:

I'm not sure. I was just saying it can be anything. Kurosawa is 1 guess.

I dunno.....given the limited number of blu-rays Criterion releases a month, I would not mind if they would take a break from the severly depressing or disturbing category. Salo was enough for awhile. And now I keep reading posts predicting the release of Tiny Furniture. That depresses and disturbs me a lot. ;)

HelmutNewton 11-11-2011 10:55 PM

I would love to see Throne Of Blood or Hidden Fortress.
