Right, with a bunch of eh-hem data to show how popular it really is. :D

Hiya!

Wanted to ask if the two-part movie Che is worth buying for he uninitiated? I'm planning to get that and Carlos as a "double-feature" kinda thing :)

Criterion have been tweeting about Dreyer's birthday and also tweeted a photo from The Passion of Joan of Arc. I wonder if that's a clue...

Do you like political "Based on a true story" films that aren't necessarily wholely accurate yet very entertaining? If so, these two are for you ;)

(I like both of them, lest you misinterpret my rambling, but they are for 'entertainment purposes only)

Yami 02-03-2012 10:44 PM

I doubt it, it's probably just in recognition of Dreyer's birthday.

No. But there were several killer performances in that film.

Yeah, CC does this all the time. That said, we did get an enigmatic, clue-like close up of a graffiti from Passion not that long ago and we know MoC is releasing a Region B disc next year, so it should be coming from CC.

I don't know why but it's the one movie Soderbergh made that I really like. Maybe because I like Terence Stamp in general. :)

They also uploaded a clip of Vampyr.

A theater in L.A. is screening The Seventh Seal followed by a q&a with Max Von Sydow. Ironically, they'll be showing Extremely Close and Incredibly Loud after that. I wonder if anyone will stay for that? I got my tickets so I'm pretty psyched!

Yami 02-03-2012 11:15 PM

Well the BFI are doing a Dreyer retrospective of sorts in March and I believe some titles are newly restored so it's a possibility.

Regarding Dreyer, I'd love to see both The Passion of Joan of Arc and Vampyr upgraded at some point. I've put off buying both on DVD, hoping for a BD release. I don't buy Criterion DVD's anymore, because I'm sure that once I do, the BD upgrade will be announced the following month. haha But I'd love to have these two films on Criterion BD.

Same goes for Christensen's Haxan, which I always associate with Vampyr for some reason.

Regarding Dreyer, I rate Ordet very highly. I'm not religious but the film had a very strange effect on me, it seemed oddly life-affirming.

I don't think it is Couer Fidele, someone at Criterionforum poster a Youtube video from Summer with Monica where you can clearly find the frame ;).

EDIT: Video above at the 3:00 mark!

SpiderBaby 02-03-2012 11:59 PM

WOW!! I do not see that. One of the better character actors the last 20+ years.
