Edit: it's about 136.32 with the exchange and shipping to NS for the UK set. Too bad it's NBNW that's excluded and not Psycho. :( I supposed I could hold onto my DVD copy a bit longer until the solo release dips in price again. I'm not sure if I'm going to get he set right away as I really want that new ereader. :D

The first link is an awesome fan review site. The 2nd is the actual foundation of his films ran by Fassbinder's editor Juliane Lorenz. I couldn't tell you which one is truly correct, as you would think the Foundation's site has it but films like In a Year with 13 Moons was released Nov 1978 and Maria Braun, early 1979. That listing could be when he finished the films, not when they were released maybe (films like Maria Braun had many release dates). Also take in account half of these are made for T.V. films, and 40+ films in a decade+. I want to say Jim's Reviews are the order I go in, as does other sites like IMDB (good site that Jim's Reviews is too). BUT the Foundation knows more than all.

I don't have a huge problem with order, as I put the BRD trilogy after In a Year With 13 Moons on my dvd shelf anyways, since it consists of 2 other films made way after it.

I am fairly certain that is not how Amazon's recommendations work. As far as I can tell, they are based on a number of factors, including your browsing patterns and the purchasing habits of others. Maybe other people ordered both films (I know I have certainly purchased a lot of Disney and a lot of Criterion from them) so they have become linked in some way on Amazon's servers.

Definitely going for the ereader now more that ever. Here's hoping I can last until October. The Sony really doesn't like my copy of Red Harvest and keeps freezing up and going on the fritz. :( also, the Nook has a better battery life on it than this Sony; Sony claims 2 weeks while reading for 75 minutes a day. Who the hell only reads for an hour and 25 minutes!??!

Amazon does that to me all the time. Including stuff I've bought from them months ago. Hey we know you like criterion, good deal on criterion, rebuy what we already sold you a month ago eh!?

So...I'm thinking of getting a couple of eclipse sets during this sale...and I'm leaning towards the Czech New Wave and something else but can't quite figure which one to get since there seem to be quite a number of good ones. Are there a couple that get as much praise as the Czech set?

I think Thin Red Line might be a little more accessible. The stunned and absorbed "Malick-pondering" probably makes more sense to more people in the context of a war film, where the situation would naturally cause one to search, "deer-in-the-headlights" for some sort of meaning to the all madness in one's serene surroundings. Very powerful.

Do you like dialogue driven films? Do you like Woody Allen?

If you do, neither one of those things guarantee it, but I think if you do like the above, your chances of liking Stillman are greater.

I love his films. Of his 1st 3, Last Days is my least favorite (Barcelona being the fav), but it's still a really fun film, imho.

So, with the above caveats, I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Yeah I don't mind dialogue driven films. I own Annie Hall and thought that was pretty good. Thanks for the response.

Need your guys and girls opinions. I have 20 bucks to spend on a gift card. I can either get The Man With No Name Trilogy or one Criterion disc. Keep in mind I love Leone. Anyone heard anythihng about the quality of those?

How big of a videophile are you? Several people seem disappointed in the Leone transfers, but I didn't find them that bad. Of course I got my set very, very cheap and I'm not as fussy about PQ as others are.

I'm a Videophile to a point. I think the Third Man arguement between the Criterion and Studio Canal is wayyyy exagerrated.

Sorry about that Jess. :( My wife had considered the Sony eReader, but I eventually bought her a Kindle 2. Ironically, she uses my autistic son's iPad 2 quite a bit, as it has an eReader app and a LONG battery life. Between the eReader and Jungian related podcasts, none of us get to use it much. ;)

Between you, me, and the wall...it's all about the prestige of owning something with the wacky C that is OOP. You wouldn't see as much interest, if it was readily available. ;)
