In other news, got a call back from Karen M. this morning and she said the reason my first order of cases for The 400 Blows, The Third Man, and Last Year At Marienbad hadn't shipped was because they never got confirmation of the payment, but they did get it for the second order for The Last Emperor, so I forwarded her my paypal reciept for the first order and they shipped out all 4 cases in one shipment today! WOOT! |
Check this out Oshima/Bowie fans, I wonder if it's real? I hope it is on blu. Someone posted it on CriterionForum but don't know where they found it.

In the meantime, I'm holding on to my dvd copy of Seven Samurai for dear life until the blu-ray is announced and I can compare the specs. I hope it's not a release like The Last Emperor where they dropped the extended edition and changed the cropping. They better keep Seven Samurai BD the 207 minute version at 1.33:1 aspect ratio!

I would buy Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence if it's dvd only, but it wouldn't hurt if it was on blu, since it is the best we can get it, and why not ask for the best. |

2. The cropping on The Last Emperor is identical on all DVD and Blu-ray editions, per request of the filmmakers. So, why again would Seven Samurai be a shorter cut and be any ratio other than 1.33:1? It's like making up BS fears is a hobby with some people.... |
The art is pretty clean, too. But I would use this cover if I were Criterion...
