according to info on the Criterion site, a new digital director's cut of "The Tin Drum" is being featured in November at the MOMA preservation fest with an appearance by Schlondorff himself. :)
could this mean that a version with English subs will finally grace Blu-ray?
coming from Criterion of course.
god I hope so.
it's been a an epic wait.

Since it's already out in Germany I'd say we could see it relatively soon...

Why is it, that American releases of films typically have French, German, Spanish, Chinese, etc. subtitles, but the French and Germans don't seem to return the favor and offer English subs?

I took German in HS, but would not be able to follow this film, unless it was subbed in English. :(

That would be.............awesome. They can be called The Contempts or The Band of Outsiders.

Well something as to generate conversation, the Criterion case replacement issue is pretty much under control now.

I believe my THE KILLERS 2 Disc DVD edition featured slip papers for front and back ? Or was it just the back? I can't remember I know I still have it/them inside my DVD case I am sure.

Thin Red Line bluray... Region-B?

Hello Movie fans,

Now that Criterion has released The Thin Red Line for region A, will there ever be a region B coded release for the European market? Will Fox ever release a non-Criterion version for the rest of the world? :(

Unfortunately, as Americans we are ignorant to the rest of the world and its concerns. ;) Just kidding.

I'm sure you frequent the European threads, so I'm sure you'd find a better answer over there. Also, you could send a PM to pro-b since he's the one that handles all of the foreign blu-ray reviews. He might have some insight for you.

A sidenote, though... if you do get a region B release, it won't be nearly as cool as the region A Criterion release. ;)

It's far too popular of a film to be ignored in other regions for long....... I'd expect another release being either Region B, or Region Free to come out about 6 months after Criterion's.

I found it at my local Best Buy on Northern Blvd in Woodside, Queens. Three copies on the shelf until I snagged one.

Wonder if it's enough to set off all the slipcover nuts into buying Criterion.

I think they (most) were saying that the original 9 Digipack Criterion's "Didn't Count" so I doubt they'd go gaga over a glued on piece of paper (that most of the Digibooks also have.....)

They certainly are a different breed though....... Discussions of ordering movies, but returning them because of a dinged corner on the slipcover, etc.... wow.....

This is from a poster over on the slipcover boards....

"Guess who got the original Gladiator slipcover with 2-disc set on the back.

<--- This guy.

Now I need to decide which slip to put on the BD on my shelf..."

I mean...aren't these 2 slipcovers IDENTICAL except for that tiny little label????? WTF?????

Honestly I throw most of my slipcovers in the trash unless they are unique looking. To me they are simply an unnecessary annoyance. One time I said as much on that slipcover thread and you'd think I'd killed a kitten.
