Well the Sttaf goes to 39hz and it was not noticeable vs the Rainmakers, but yeah Totems are the same way anyways I'll make you here some depth if you come to Montreal :p
The Rainmaker is no slouch I tell ya.

What Im saying is that a few hertz won't make a difference. Driver tech, crossovers and cabinet will have a bigger impact then anything. Heck, the Focals frequency response don't go that low, however the bass is really heavy. I think theres a little bit of a mid-bass bump in their crossover on their lower speakers to make the average person happy, for the "AUDIOFOOL" that is bass happy.

To my surprise my Forest do indeed have a Hi-Vi aka Accoustic Technology International driver as their woofer but what caught my attention is that it's a 6 screws so it is very hard to distinguish it from the Dynaudio drivers :p I know it's a Chinese knock off but man it's not bad at all.
They usually have 12 screws on those. I wrote to Totem to find out why.

well it still has a 3" voice coil. I dont think most people understand what that means until they hear it. It really does add to the dynamics of the speaker. However depending on how that driver is made will determine a lot of the way itll perform in comparison to the Dyn woofers. Im assuming that like the current Dyn woofer that Totem is using, the HiVi woofer probably has ferrite magnets powering the woofer also. Whether the magnet is inside the VC and outside, like the Dyn woofers, IDK. That is what makes the woofers on the Dyns such great performers. Im willing to guess that the HiVi woofer has been reversed engineered to match the Dyn woofers, so Id guess they are... but probably a lot less expensive, and have some other cost cutting measures.
The Excites use a 1.5" VC, but its built longer then a typical VC, and it still has magnets on top and below to strengthen the VC stroke and keep the dynamics one expects from Dyn speakers.
I don't think you need to be concerned with the woofer and where it was made and by whom. While Dyn is known for their driver build, I highly doubt that Totem didn't go their the process of selection without making sure every detail was met.
